Large Computer Backpack Recommendation (Cycling)

Hi all,

I'm interested in purchasing a backpack with the purpose of carrying my 17" laptop in it's own bag, change of clothes + shoes, and misc little items whilst riding my bicycle.

I currently have a TYR Transition Backpack that's almost dead, and it can barely carry everything.

Preferably under the $100 range.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

Targus Voyager is a good one. I had one for years and it was amazing how much crap you could put in it. I had reason to use the lifetime warranty twice - I broke a zipper trying to cram a portable fishing rod in it, and once when some of the stitching frayed - each time Targus replaced the backpack without any issues.

I currently use a backpack that has an 'air pillow' built in that fits in your lower back, at first I thought it was a gimmick but it makes carrying heavy loads in the bag much easier on the shoulders and posture.

The Alienware backpack is a good one if you don't mind a hard shell. I have an Alienware satchel and love it.

    • agreed Targus is a good brand made to last. Keep checking ozbagain for special on it

  • This is the one I use: http://imgur.com/q2cha9A

On a regular day ride to work during winter (approx 22km) I managed to fit my 17inch Macbook Pro, power adapter, work shoes, pants, shirt, puffy jacket, shower gels and other small accessories in this bag.

It's water proof so no need to worry about getting it wet.

Bought it for $100 AUD in Korea. I can't seem to find the same bag on North Face website though.

One time I even managed to put my laptop and a 15 inch lcd monitor in this bag from Melb to Syd.

Been using it almost everyday for 2 years, only one of the inner department zip is slight broken, but otherwise it's still going strong.

  • Thanks all - I'm mostly concerned that the main compartment won't be big enough to hold my laptop in its own laptop bag.

    • The Voyager or the Alienware would both swallow a 17" in it's own compartment without an issue.
