Hey Colin, Last week I puchased a tablet but my requirements were a little different. I wanted similar but also a 2in1 (with detachable keyboard). Ended up with a Asus Transformer T100HA. Bought it from JB Hifi but got them to price Harvey Normans price of $396 (you can actually get it for $371 after using Harvey Norman $25 online voucher). Theres other T100 versions but I think the HA version has the latest/better processor.

12 hours battery life they say!

    • Oh man, +1 for the T100. It is an amazing machine, and with a little know-how, can even run games. (I've had Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas on it previously.)

    • Hi Andyman,

Thanks for your reply. It is quiet ironical that you recommend the Asus Transformer. The reason I need a new tablet is that I am replacing my Asus = Transformer TF100 that I purchased when they first came out about 5 years ago. It was a good machine but is very slow now so I gave it to my grandaughter. Probably don't need the keyboard so am just looking for a plain tablet and only need wifi (No 3/4G) as I will use free wifi while overseas

      Thanks for your reply

  • I got a chrome book and a 128gb SD card.

    • I got the acer chromebook from Amazon deal for $160 a few months ago - excellent device. Now just use 5.5in phone and the chromebook. Barely use the tablet anymore.

      • Yep, me too.

    • Got my ASUS Chromebook Flip last month from Amazon. Great sub-1kg laptop / tablet! Also installed ARC Welder and have some success with some of the Android apps that I want to use.

  • Does the airplane you're going on have USB in the arm rests?

If yes then go for an inexpensive 5.5" China droid.

    • The 'reputable brand' requirement possibly points to this tablet being used in the long term and probably not just limited to use on the plane..

In any case, I'm also in the same group of people who went with a super-portable chromebook-type PC (my Windows 10 Pendo 11.6 convertible actually) and no longer found a use for the tablet. Not sure if it will apply to OP, but I just found Windows to be so much better for media consumption — the file management, the range of media players and the codec support — Windows is just better overall.

The pendo is good… but not great, so I'd recommend something closer to the Surface 3. Or HP x360. Maybe even Lenovo Yoga. Pricey but its probably worth it for the build quality alone.

Well, this is $15.99 but I suspect it's one of those hacked eBay accounts.
I'll see in a month or so.
