Creating a business website

Hello im an amateur photographer who's done a lot of work during the past year. And I wanted to showcase my photos in a website other than Facebook. I'm on 500px, Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, and wix but I want my own name on the URL to start building my portfolio. I'm asking the photographers and Web masters of they're recommended website hosts that is cheap but also fast for clients to view my photos. Thanks in advance

http://zuver.net.au is very good and are owned by Synergy Wholesale. Their $4 monthly plan is good for starting off and all you would need is a Wordpress site.

Even though their previous deal of 90% off hosting is expired the coupon usually still works.

    • i must be out of luck. code doesn't work for me

      • You can always message the rep there and ask for a deal. I'm sure they can accommodate.

  • Big Cartel is good.

  • How much web site setup have you done in the past? How much are you willing to learn?

If you'd rather pay as little as possible, you can just get a host as Clear suggests above and DIY it. Install Wordpress or some other CMS, manage it, install themes, gallery plugins, keep it up-to-date (hackers love wordpress).

You could just pay for a domain with Wix. Their US$9/month plan comes with a free domain.

You could also go for the middle ground. Pay someone you trust to set up Wordpress for you, but pay the hosting yourself, and then every few months get them to install updates as required.

    • Worth mentioning that Zuver is now using Patchman that'll alert you about new exploits and allow you to patch them. Very useful to use alongside Wordpress security plugins.

I really recommended Squarespace. It's easy to setup and simple to use. Wordpress is to fidgety and cumbersome to manage if you're not into the technical side of things

    • Heard about squarespace, but thought it was mostly for the US. Will have a look at that.

No, squarespace is international and they charge you in USD. I really recommend it if you want to show off your portfolio. Don't listen to those who are telling you to get hosting and build a website on top, it's a lot of hassle and you'd rather spend time and effort actually taking photos and showing clients.

Why not GoDaddy and get Website Build there. I think its $10 pm with domain url.

As the owner of a portfolio of websites with numerous different hosts (including GoDaddy) I wouldn't recommend them. SiteGround and A Small Orange are much better.

All but one of my sites are on Wordpress so I always recommend that, but if you want something less fiddly/technical then you're better off with something like Wix. Anyone can build a nice looking site in a few hours using Wix.

However if you want to sell your photos or prints or whatever (an ecommerce store), you're best to go with BigCommerce, Shopify or BigCartel although they tend to be a little bit more pricey.
