Just got the Wynston Sit Stand Desk

Hi Ozfam

Would post this as a deal, but it's normal price. The Wynston Sit Stand Desk is awesome! It doesn't require any assembly, and can convert any desk into a standing desk. For $200 it's well worth it IMO. "Real" standing desks can be around $800, so I think it's a bargain.

I couldn't find many reviews of it online, so here's my review: good buy for anyone who wants to be able to stand and work and who already has a desk.

Happy to answer any questions about it if you're interested.

  • For $85, they can come out and assemble it for you!

Is it sturdy enough for banging away at the keyboard?

    • I think that's just slapped on every furniture piece they have on the website. Like I said, it comes fully assembled.

Banging away on the keyboard now (a slide out drawer). Admittedly, it is shaking the unit slightly. It may benefit from being bolted to a wall (but that would require some handyman skills).

The unit itself is very sturdy. It doesn't budge when I knock the sides, so I trust that my monitor, sitting on the top shelf, will be safe.

I only wish that the keyboard drawer was slightly wider to allow room for a mouse pad. Instead, my mouse pad is currently sitting next to my monitor.

I'm going to wait a few days while I get used to the setup, and then come back and comment some more.

      • might be better with a keyboard without a number pad so you have more room..

        • Good idea. Alas, my mousepad is way too large for the tray. I'll try and source a travel keyboard on the cheap

  • It may be a different brand but we have one of these at work for one of the admin staff, seems pretty good and it lowers down so you can sit if you want as well (well ours does).

Couldn't find any others retail so probably same

  • The top is made of "business grade" MDF lol.
I am interested in the idea, as it took me a lot of experimenting to get a desk/chair/trackball combo that was RSI proof and good for my back.
I think I would find standing still all day too tiring though, I know I used to get worn out in an 8 hour retail shift if it was slow and I was standing around. As opposed to lots of movement if it was busy. Different muscle use I guess.

Luckily a quick push takes it right down to near desk level. Coupled with a Dell monitor, I can lower the screen down to eye level.

Sitting too much has been giving me cramps so I needed a quick solution

    • yeh thats rubbish. I only go for military grade MDF.

  • Officeworks' website is currently off-line, however it's available also on their eBay store which you can get free postage & use a cashback site.

Hi Scotty. I saw that, but I'd recommend going into a store and trying it out if possible. It might not suit someone with a dual monitor layout.

  • Thanks TomKun01, it has been a couple of months how are you finding it?

I am looking for one at work but I need one that can hold a 24"inch wide monitor and a laptop as well, plus a mouse.

I assume this one will not work for that?

Do Office works have bigger ones?

I saw some online from a company called VARIDESK but they are $575
You mentioned this is pre-assembled but on the office works website it says 15 mins to build!

    Cheers.

    Sam.

It's completely pre assembled. My setup is a 24 inch monitor, laptop and keyboard with mouse. It's a little messy with cords. Keep in mind that this requires a desk to be placed on. Love being able to quickly change the height.

Your other option is a new adjustable desk from IKEA, but that won't give you levels to be able to place the monitor at a greater height.

I'd still recommend the desk for the price after 2 months of using it every day.

      • oh that sounds exactly like my setup :) So do the cords just go to the back ??

Yes it will be sitting on a desk.

And I would want to sit down sometimes and stand up as well so that looks like it will work…. does it feel stable?? and enough room for mouse as well without hitting keyboard or going off edge?

Lastly with the height adjust does it allow different levels depending on how tall you are?

Thanks for quick reply - much appreciated.

        Sam.

        • Yea you can hide the cords behind it..sorta.
          Its very stable.
The keyboard tray is big enough for both peripherals as long as you're not playing counter strike.
It's supposed to be adjustable, but really there's only two levels, because parts that are supposed to hold the top part level are not strong enough to hold it at different levels. I just adjust my monitor.
I'm about 178 cm tall and it's great for me

  • Just FYI the bottom of the IKEA sit stand desk is available for ~250. Just drill a few holes and replace the legs of your current desk :) Definitely need a monitor arm though, they are 50-70 from msy

  • Late question.

How does this accommodate tall person (say 180cm tall)?

    • I'm 178 and it works well for me. Though I have a dell monitor so I can adjust monitor height

  • I've tried the 'Large' version of this desk and I would not recommend it.

When empty it was easy to raise but with two average LCD monitors I found it was difficult to raise from the base position. The specs say this can carry up to 40kg and these weighed about 12kg together.

At the highest position the height of the monitors still too low for an average adult male and it needed an extra 10cm to be comfortable.

The top and bottom positions were stable but the intermediate positions were unstable and not always level.

    • yo. my version is fine for me, and im about 180 cm tall, but maybe thats because my monitor stand is adjustable.

honestly i hardly ever raise it anymore, but it's still useful when not raised, as it keeps my monitor at a higher level than my keyboard.

    • I also have the large version and do agree with your comment on the difficulty raising the desk from the lowest to highest position with 2 monitors and a desktop.
But my biggest issue is that, when standing, the keyboard is about 10cm too low for me, and I am only 176cm tall.
Does anyone else have an issue with the keyboard height when standing?

  • Hi tomkun01, I am also looking to buy this one. I am getting a pain in my back when seated for a long time.

I would appreciate if you could help me with couple of things here:

    • Can it accommodate 2 24" monitors?
    • Keyboard/mouse drawer looks small, does it have enough space to rest your arm a bit?

    Thanks

    • No, probably not.
      No resting space for hands.
I've since bought an adjustable table from office works but I can't put the fn thing together. Get one from IKEA if you can.

      • Thank you very much for your feedback. I haven't seen the IKEA one yet. Also, this is for the office, I am not sure if the guys would allow me to bring another table in.

      • did you end up getting rid of sit stand desk because it was not good enough>

        • +1

Ended up not using it anymore. It had its moments, but it's not an ideal solution. Better to have a separate dedicated standing desk. I work full time now and the last thing I want to do every evening is stand up.

        • @tomkun01:
Which adjustable desk did you get from officeworks?

I thought the whole idea of sit/stand desk was that you could do both.

        • @Gimli: never ended up putting it together so i don't know. It's a pain to switch with the winston and it doesn't lock securely. Also, it's too small to hold a mousepad

        • @tomkun01:
          k. good to know.
My dad was thinking of getting a proper sit stand desk. Something like this https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/matrix-adj…

But I suggested he think about the winston but may advise him from this.

        • @Gimli: thats the crappy one i bought but never used. better to buy from ikea if you can. never had an issue with ikea furniture

        • @tomkun01:
          ok thanks for the tips!
          is this the one?
          http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49084965/

        • @Gimli: yea that looks like its the one. definitely get your dad to go have a play with it in ikea. maybe take a laptop or writing pad to test it out. also check how easy/hard it is to raise/lower it
