Not much better out there for laptop gaming, desktops I can agree on but I've had an AW laptop for 6 years and still goin' strong, just GPU gets so hot with my new monitors.

I still love mine (MX17 R4) over 3 years old and she holds up pretty well, BF4 on Ultra and Diablo 3 maxed out so suits me just fine. Will build a new PC when Star Citizen is finally out and VR is upon us though :D

I don't see how this is not a better deal.

They have deals from time to time as well which makes it too good to be true lol

        • Because it's not an Alienware which is basically a very high end Dell.

        • Had friends that had Clevo and metabox, they burnt out after 3 years. Dell's support is better too, had my 7200 rpm disk fail and replaced the next day.

You use a gt965 to run a game on FHD? LoL. And the hard drive for what purpose? Gaming?

Seems like a lot of money for a 965 graphics. If it had 970m then I think it would be better value.

  • Just as an FYI I've had real issues with Alienware recently with the 14 upgrading from Windows 8.1 to 10. I would be hesitant to recommend this to other folks

    • +1

what issues? I've been using an Alienware M14x for ages without issue on windows 10 since the insider previews, no issues for me. I did a clean install rather than the inline upgrade tho.

      • +1

Windows 10 upgrade killed the monitor firmware on bootup due to compatibility issue in NVIDIA's driver. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10-nvidia-wh…

        • Yikes. Thanks.

Win10 really is a colossal screw up in terms of bugs that should not have made it through testing. In particular, MS is refusing to spank the **** out of NVIDIA who are the cause of a few very large stuff ups. Combined with automatic driver updates, trouble has always been coming.

Even MS is doing a crap job on their own - what about the win 10 installer getting stuck at 23% on a fresh install because an optical drive WAS connected! How did that get through testing?!

        • @justtoreply: The Vista dilema. By itself on release, Vista was significantly better than how the XP was on release in regard to bugs, but manufacturers and OEM screwed it over with crappy hardware support and selling crappier machine as Vista (Basic) compatible. Never saw the 23% bug, but I haven't had an optical drive on any of my computers since 2009

      • graphics: no longer automatically shifts between discrete v integrated graphics - I have manually set it to just use discrete card

ethernet: Ethernet connection not found. Huge issues trying to re install compatible drivers

touchpad: intermittently works. Often freezes. Have to use mouse (but this works 100% of the time)

It works great for gaming. No issues with that. But yeah lots of other issues

        • Wow. How did I make that bold?

Thanks mate! I use hashtags as part of a problem list - one of the habits I get from work

I'd get with lower GPU to be honest. There's USB-C external docking stations coming out where you can use a full powered desktop GPU in it. I'm gonna get the XPS15 when these become more mainstream for the thin light-ness.
There's an alienware one too using their fancy connector as well.

    • There's an alienware one too using their fancy connector as well.

like…the one in this deal? :P

      • Yeah I meant the dock they call an amplifier. Doesn't look like the unit's included but the laptop has the port for it naturally.
I think the USB-c ones look more promising.

    • +1

I think the new Razer Blade Stealth is doing the precise same thing. Selling the base laptop for $1000 and you can get the docking station to fit up to 2 cards. Which is making me crazy tempted to pick it up since the blades have really nice build to it.

    • That dell xps12 tablet would've been good if it wasn't for that core m processor

Scratches and such don't bother me for cheaper price. It's first in best dressed tho.

I bought a 7000 dollar alienware machine for work and it was frankly disappointing. I built faster for just over half the price.

However, I have a code if anyone wants it.

    • What about is the PC you built more reliable as in will it last longer than the Alienware before breaking down?.

      • Yes because its essentially the same hardware (just newer versions).
It was all top of the line stuff.
