  • Too bad it's not for the KD55X8500C model =(

I've been keeping my eye out on that model for a while… Missed out on the deals in Nov 15 for around the same price (~$1.5k mark)!

    • yeh old model was so much better than new one

      • I grabbed a X8500 55" for $1654 at JB Hifi two weeks ago. They should be able to do that.

        • Thanks for the info mate. I was just at my local JB (VIC) to query this price. They said no way they could do it. Wouldn't even go below $1.9k. Which JB did you go to and do you have a receipt please?

        • @AnDyStYLe:

Was at JB HIFI West Lakes (SA). I'll try to scan my receipt.

        • +1

          @AnDyStYLe:

          Here's the receipt Andy

Actually was $1645 for the KD55X6500C.

        • @Yowiefied: Thanks heaps for that, will take this in to see if they'll price match.

        • @AnDyStYLe:

No worries! Let me know how it goes. Also got a smashing price on the ht-nt3 sound bar, it's a perfect match for the tv.

  • Model number: KD55X8000C

Not as good as the $1499 deal on KD55X8500C. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218341

    • Gah! Still kicking myself for missing that one!

    • Whats the diff?

      • 8500C is using TRILUMINOS Display.
Sony: "Sony's TRILUMINOS™ Display comes with a wider colour gamut to reproduce images with greater realism. Red, green and blue are notoriously hard to reproduce, but Sony BRAVIA TV delivers vivid reds and natural-looking greens and blues for beautiful, lifelike pictures. "

  • Same model (KD55X8000C) was $1499 in this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/228665.

And Video Pro is selling it for $1,545.50, free shipping to post code 2000. https://www.videopro.com.au/p-9058-sony-bravia-55-kd55x8000c…

  • Samsung S6 for $738 too, possibly $538 if $200 trade-in still avail :)

    • Unfortunately not. Trade in is available for only Edge & Edge+ I read. Unless someone can verify that again

      • Tradein is available for any phone in the store is what the Manager told me when I went to buy the Edge from last deal at JB.

        • Thats what I was told too. Tempted to go and try but really want bigger screen. Note 5 will be reasonable price on 11th.

        • thanks mate. I might try my luck this weekend then

$1,097 extra for 4k (and likely a better panel)? shrug

    • Please link me where you can get a sony 55 inch for $500 AU

      • -2

55". I didn't specify brand. But what's the point of brand if you aren't comparing panel quality?

    • I'd love to hear the neg reasons. Perhaps people don't like being told they can get 55" for 33% of the price?

If the panel is actually worth the extra 1.1k, how about letting ozbargainers know why?

  • Anyone able to comment on if this is just as good as the KD55X8500C? And if it's worth the price difference?

  • Cool price, but can somebody remind me why we want 4K? I can't for the life of me remember what it is useful for. And same for quadraphonic records.

    • Stream 4K games through nvidia shield or steamlink, 4K blurays are about 6 months away, or watch some of the new Netflix 4K content.

      • But why? It doesn't seem to make House of Cards any more awesome.

        • Well being higher fidelity might, depends on how producers decide to make use of it I guess. I'm sure as its a relatively new format movie studios will figure out how to get the most out of it, as they have with 1080p.

        • @Yowiefied: Its probably also true that when producers do start to make use of the tech, the TV of the time will be better too. In the end, youll want to upgrade your 4k to 4K2.0.

I want, but I just cant quite come to trust that I should jump in now.

DON'T BUY!! Sony will release 55" X8500D next month for RRP $1899. It has Triluminos Display, HDR and thinner matel frame, much better than this cheap plastic model.

    • So true, TV manufacturers will bring out the new models in a few months time. I got UA55F6400 a few years ago from JB for $1050 with extra warranty around April when new models got released. Mine was end of life series but big savings just to clear it out.

    • Looks like the X8500D is missing 3D.

    • How do you know this is coming out soon? I went to a few shops and they suggested it probably wont come out mid to later in the year (unless they were just trying to trick me into buy another model tv).
