    These cameras are good…from a cost point of view its not a huge step up to a Gorpro hero though when you factor in the waterproof case…maybe another $50.

    This is an excellent quality alternative to the gopro at the price. It will require some modifications to the microphone because their wind deadener stuff causes the audio to be a bit quiet.

    In regards to the case, maybe I just got a bumper unit but the first time I put my case underwater it leaked a bit of water and caused the lens to get all foggy.

      Third party "waterproof" cases came out long before the official case came out. It's very likely that you got one of those. They're much cheaper too.

        I did in fact wait for preorder of the official case and bought both the xiaomi camera and the oem case at the same time. I've told gearbest about my order but haven't followed up on it any further.

          Off topic: I hate to continue this off topic but I've had great dealings with them purchasing the camera and fittings and recently received my one plus two from them.

          Otherwise, I might have just got a bad unit or it might need the screws tightened. The camera is excellent quality though, best used in daytime with lot of light.

      What kind of modifications have you done with the microphone? I've noticed all my videos are super quiet with the waterproof case on. I've taken it apart and removed the small black sticker on the microphone, but I'm assuming just having the case on blocks out all sound completely.

        The reality is that waterproof cases will muffle the microphone to a point where the the sound is really quiet. The design that doesn't allow water in also reduces the ability to pass sound energy.

          That's what I was first led to believe, but a friend of mine has a waterproof case for his GoPro Hero 4 Silver and the sound is crisp! I guess that's another compromise for the Xiaomi Yi then..

      Thats condensation. Vapour in the air already inside the case turns into water. Very common issue with underwater cameras and why you should put a dessicant inside the case.

        water sloshing in the camera case immediately after being dunked in a gold coast beach is not simply condensation. After the water entered, excessive condensation ruined the video.

      Processing can take up to a week, but it's usually only a couple of days. TNT shipping takes about 3 days to arrive from China.

      Free shipping can take up to 30 days, but most people receive their orders in 2-3 weeks.

          Not related to this product but wondering if you can help me as I've had a terrible time contacting both your online support and email support…

          On the 5th of January I pre ordered - and paid for - a similar product, the Xiaomi Yi Smart Car DVR. It was promised to be shipped as ordered on the 22nd Jan.
          On the 28th Jan I received an email saying that the product I ordered would be sent out with Chinese firmware and with no English on the camera.

          Can you help to resolve this as I'm getting nowhere with other support channels…

          @rollo: Alright so my guess is correct. The English firmware and app have not been released yet, but Geekbuying have provided a video and images of the camera/app translated in English to help set it up for the time being.

      The camera itself is currently on sale and cheaper. The downside is that it's stocked in Hong Kong instead of China, so TNT shipping is not available.

      If you were a reseller you can ship it directly to your customer without any mention of Geekbuying on the packaging.

      You'll just have to add it to your cart. Free shipping takes about 3 weeks after processing.
