Confused with Career Options Need Advice

hi all
i need help deciding what is right and long term satisfactory option.
one option is that i have job offer of full time asst. manager at fast food which is 24*7 rotating roster and need to be available weekends. this job offer is from my previous 2 years store management experienced money is approx 45k. this job can be anywhere around 45 minute drive.
i have another job offer from my current workplace is to work as plastic extrusion machine operator as permanent day shift or permanent evening shift which is 2 min drive from home from last six months due to the ownership change at franchise restaurant i had to look other option quickly and started factory machine operator work for short time until i find anything good or which is boring and totally different job environment but it is too easy but only good thing is you work fixed shift and weekend and public holidays off. and pay is $20.00 or around so i am very confused from long time please suggest something.

    ^^Needs more of those.

Anyway, my vote is to do the operator job until something better comes along. Pay isn't much different to the fast food job, without having to work stupid hours of the day and tell 14yos what to do.

Take up the factory job and go to tafe. Choose a meaningful course with a suitable career pathway.

  • For the factory work if it's 5 days a week @ $20/hr for 8 hrs (full time) for 52 weeks a year, that's ~$41k. So pay is about about 8% less, but it's also closer with regular hours.

Do you like to spend time with your friends? Do you have hobbies (like team sport) that need regular weekends? Do you like low stress environments and a reliable pay rate? Go with the factory work.

Do you like commuting (some people do!)? Do you like talking with your staff and the public? Do you like being in charge? Do you have no fixed commitments? Go with the fast food job.

  • my idea is to work fixed hours factory work like 6 am to 2 pm and do some part time job at evening to make more money and buy pizza franchise as i had exp of how to run. if possible and that way i still be able to spend weekend with family but in fastfood manager you can not have that weekend fun and compulsory night shifts. 45k pay and you still run your store like you own it.

  • See both as a job and not career.
Both Manufacturing and Fast food retail are in the lower end industry in term of pay scale.
factory - 10 hours shift. retail - work when people are having fun. for career,
Never say never - there are success stories in every industry - but odd is not in favour.
