Vodafone Smart First 3G Mobile Phone $69 ($34.50 after Half Price Coupon + Bonus $34.50 Woolworths Dollars) @ Woolworths

2810

OK, firstly forget the $69. No one will pay $69 for this phone.

This phone is advertised in the current catalogue on page 25. When you purchase this phone you will receive $34.50 Woolworths Dollars (You will need a Woolworths Rewards Card)

Even at $34.50 the phone is still not worth it. But if you have kept your Woolworths receipts from the last week or two, you may have one of these half price coupons. The half price coupons are unique and will only work once.

This is now the good part. Present your half price coupon which brings the phone down to $34.50 (less if you pay with discounted wish cards). Scan your Woolworths rewards card and you will have earned yourself $34.50 Woolworths Dollars, effectively making the phone FREE.

Now you can walk away and be content that you have effectively scored yourself a free phone. Or, if you are a true ozbargainer, you will probably notice your new receipt has yet another unique half price coupon

So, you go back for round two. Same procedure as above. Present coupon. Phone comes down to $34.50. But this time when you scan your rewards card you will automatically redeem $30 Woolworths Dollars (this will be shown on the receipt as MEMBER REWARDS 3 @ 10.00). This will leave an amount of $4.50 that you must pay out of pocket, however, you will have earned yourself another $34.50 Woolworths Dollars.

So, after 2 transactions you have yourself 2 brand new phones, $39 Woolworths Dollars, 2 petrol dockets and yet another half price coupon. And so it goes on and on, though it does say limit of 2 per customer in the T&Cs, but I'd say that is referring to the maximum number of handsets they would sell you at one time.

This phone can be unlocked for $1.45 on ebay. Many thanks to abacusjk for posting the link and to other members for confirming it worked.

Riiiiight… So after doing all of this when would I receive my Master of Woolworths Business testamur in the mail?

    • WRONG.

      Masters of OZBARGAINING BUSINESS testamur.

    • +20

Or Woolworths will sell you Masters for a cheap price :p

      • Rinse and repeat to acquire then broden all the masters stores

  • the question is will this be consider further discount as per the image on coupon is not available.

    • +1

the phone isnt free, i think alot of us jumped to conclusion, you still have to pay 34.50$, having the woolworths dollars isnt exactly the same as 34.5$ in your bank account in that youc an spend on anything you want, you might be getting the phone cheap in this case(somewhere within the $34.50) and it promotes you to shop.

good that the title is updated

      • -1

this phone spec is almost twice as WORSE as the recent Indian cheapest phone in the world that made the news which went like $5, but smart marketing move on woolies for this.

    • +6

So what is the trouble you are talking about?

  • How much do you need to spend to get the Vodafone voucher?

    • I had spent $108 (which included a $100 gift card) when I received the initial coupon last week. Then I received another coupon with the purchase of each handset. So I'm not sure what the minimum spend would be.

      • Can you really keep on earning Rewards $?

        • +1

Yes, but every time you scan your rewards card it will use the credit already on the card, in multiples of $10.

So if you start with a card with zero balance, your balance will be $34.50 after you purchase a phone.

If you purchase a second phone, $30 will automatically come off your card, but another $34.50 will be added. So your balance would be $39.

If you purchase a 3rd phone, $30 will come off your card and another $34.50 will be added. So your card balance would then be $43.50 and so on.

Just remember each time you purchase a phone, after the initial phone, there will be a $4.50 out of pocket charge, but that is counter balanced by the reward dollars. But every phone your purchase after the initial one is effectively completely free.

        • @unity1: T&C says limit of 2 per customer?

        • @downero: 2 from store A, 2 from store B? I'm not sure, I have not tried it.

    • No higher than $44.27. I received a coupon with a spend of that much.

I spent $33 on Monday with EDR card, received offer. Read the offer & threw in bin :-(

Had got a few Woolies bargains like targetted 5 Woolies dollars with $30+ spend & they had announced a $3 bag of select your own fruit & veggies from a trolley (4 mangos, 1kg bananas, 1kg nectarines, 350g strawberries, limes, capsucum, chillies, etc - all that in 1 bulging bag for $3).

      • +2

Yes, I had the $5 Woolworths Dollars for $30 spend on my spare card, so I actually received $39.50 Woolworths Dollars after my first purchase.

        • +3

And another (targeted) 5 Woolies dollars with $30+ spend starting Monday. I've got the offer on 2 EDR cards ;-)

Found the half price Vodafone offer receipt in the car after searching bin, so I'm off to Woolies for a free phone plus 5 Woolies dollars. Then same deal on Monday.

What's even better than an effectively free phone - being paid to have the free phone.

          Thanks unity1 :-)

        • @Infidel: Yeah I should have waited till Monday to maximise the amount of Woolworths Dollars, but I thought the deal might get ozbargained before then. The store I went to did mention they had a few more on order, so if a store does not have stock ask if they will be getting more in.

        • +3

          @unity1:
Stock may be rarer after your deal :(
Will ask staff to put 1 aside until Monday. They're always nice to me.

        • @Infidel:
Went back to store which had "no stock" 9 am Saturday & helped them search thorough the stock.

Found 1 at bottom of pile, no outer plastic wrap (but box is sealed & SIM included). So bought with credit & got 34.50 + 5 Woolies Dollars credited ;-)

  • Anyone knows how to unlock this phone?

    • +2

we should be able to unlock it for $1.45, see below hyperlink:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Unlock-code-service-for-Vodafone-…

      • Paid.

      • Thanks, bought it and was sent to me today, worked perfectly

    • I bought this but it doesn't come automatically. So waiting now.

      • let us know if it works OK

        • +1

Make sure you check on the Vodafone unlocking website first. Sometimes you can find your code for free if you are lucky.

        • @unity1:

          Too bad, not free.
          Service Fee:$50.00
          New Phone:$0.00
          Online discount*:$25.00 -
          Total:$25.00

        • @downero: Well just sit tight and wait to see whether the $1.45 ebay codes work.

        • +1

@unity1: ebay unlock worked. Now to unlock the other 10

        • @downero: ebay unlocked worked for me as well. However after unlock, the phone can't read my Aldi mobile sim (says no service). What sim card are you using? Do yo need to change any settings for your phone to read the sim?

        • @bestbarginever: Telstra. I don't have Aldi sim to try

        • @downero: I can't tell what the provider id is? where did you find it? Thanks

        • @downero: Thanks for confirming.

Keep doing the process that OP has described and you will be the first 'Woolworth dollars' millionaire.

    • +1

If you keep on doing that you will still end up with only $34.50 woolworth dollars unless you don't use the woolworths dollars to pay for the phones and want a million dollars poorer in your bank account.

      • You don't get a choice to use the Woolworths dollars or not. If you have more than $10 credit it will be used.

        • Yeah if they point a gun at you insist to scan your rewards card at checkout.
Edit: oh I got your point, Woolworths dollars will never get up to a million dollars from repeating this deal because in order to earn $34.50 you will need scan the card and spend the previous $34.50. In fact I was once asked "do you want to use your $10 Woolworths dollars to pay for this bill". I guess they just informed me instead of giving me a choice.

  • I have a coupon if anyone wants it. PM me. Edit: Given away.

  • U xan also sell the phone on ebay or Gumtree or cex

  • Great deal

  • Does anyone have a coupon I could use?

  • I need this coupon if any body can message me?

  • -1

Can anyone please also send a coupon to me? I am looking for a spare phone..

  • Got my free phone, thanks.

  • +1

    Sheer unadulterated brilliance sir.

  • Can anyone please share their code with me?

  • Can this phone be unlocked?

    • +1

we should be able to unlock it for $1.45, see below hyperlink:

      • +2

If anyone manages a successful unlock please let me know and I will update the main post. These can usually be unlocked for $1-$2 on ebay, but I don't have a phone with me right now to check.

  • I'd love a coupon too if anyone can spare one.

  • No coupon here!Anyway to get a coupon?

  • Would love a coupon if anyone can share one.

        Ray Martin's

  • Keen for a coupon if anyone has one…pls

  • I had four of these coupons.

I really can't be bothered to look through the trash.

    • We keep our receipts together in an envelope for up to a few months and then, when we think it's safe (Deals Expired etc), we chuck them out.

  • I didn't get it, I just finished my shop for the weekend. I had the spend $70 for $15 targeted offer.

      • +1

        Happy B'day Mrs nismo! 🎂

      • I hope it didn't smell like a dumpster when you went diving on the mrs

  • I am unable to find details about this phone ..anyone knows just incase i want to use it for myself

  • Is this phone any good? As good as Telstra Buzz 4GX?

    • +1

The Buzz would be better, but that is selling for $99

  • +5

Great find OP. Got 2 from Woolie Hoppers Crossing. They have plenty in stocks and since im not greedy, I only bought 2. Let others enjoy the deal too please.

    • Good on you. Not sure what anyone would do with 10 crappy phones anyway.

      • Isn't this deal more about the (W$) cash than the crappy phone?

        • +1

Nope. You spend $34.50 and receive W$34.50 credit, so you can't multiply your wealth. You can buy unlimited phones for free, though.

        • @31974
d'oh, my bad I kinda skimmed over the details.

          Didn't buy the phone though.

  • +1

This is how a company gets wrecked

    • +1

Huh, by having a promotion to encourage more spending in their stores.

  • +1

Thanks OP can you please add this that you can get the coupon by opal recahrge of $50 or may be less

    • Thanks for letting me know. sween64 mentioned a spend of $44.27 got him/her a voucher https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3478250/redir

I'll wait and see if someone comes up with an exact minimum spend that triggers the coupon. I imagine you would also need to scan the rewards card to trigger the coupon.

      • Spent $31.18 and got a code. Scanned woolies card too if that helps

      • I think $30 spend will trigger the voucher

  • +2

Might pass on this. It's so sluggish & destined to end up in the drawer, and after a few years in mobilemuster's recycling centre.

    • +2

Have to agree, I've got better phones than this already in the drawer!

  • Oh man I've got a coupon but the woolies near me doesn't have it, and I'm in need of a new phone since my note 3 won't charge. The next closest woolies is 45km away

    • Ask if they are getting in more stock. Some stores may have stock on order.

    • +2

LOL - your note 3 ain't good enough anymore so there's precious little chance of you being satisfied with this Vodafone phone!
(but is better than nothing of course)

    • +6

If you had note 3 then you will feel that you have gone back 50 years by using this phone. Don't waste your time. Give away coupon to someone else.

    • +2

You should be able to get a decent phone if you ask Turnbull 😀

    • Great, got the last one from St Ives Woolies. Can now give a phone to my Scrooge little brother who doesn't have any smart phone :P

By the way, why not order Note 3 battery (genuine about $15) from eBay for your phone? It might fix your phone.

      • @datafellows I did order a spare battery, still not working. It's an issue with the charging port I think.

        • Oh man. Never fixed that myself by if you dare to venture to open the phone and follow YouTube instructions you might be able to fix it.

No idea how much would a mobile repair shop charge you for that, could be $100?

Might be easier to sell your phone on eBay and buy a new one as you obviously are now planning to do :)

        • +1

My friend's S2 charge port didn't charge, even after swapping the entire charge port hardware. Turns out it was an issue with the OS, as it worked when it was factory reset. Was on cyanogenMod though. Another alternative: buy an external charger, and battery swap. A bit annoying I know, but cheapest solution…

  • +1

Just bought $70 of wish gift card with some items to get the code. But unfortunately I didn't get the code :(
Was planing to use the gift card to buy the phone.
Anyone would like to share a code? Please PM

    • Just wondering whether you scanned your rewards card with that transaction?

      • I scanned it.

        i shouldn't do that?

        • No, not sure sorry. HardyBro received one with a $50 OPAL rechage. Ikp received one with a $31.18 spend.

        • @unity1: spent $13 yesterday also and no code so it looks like $30 min spend would be my guess
