Starting to notice some of the free xb1 games have in app purchases ….hope it doesn't become a pay to win environment like on ios or Google.

    • +1

whats even worse is what they charge for fake money to buy fake items in a game… one of the games im playing, just to win a card you have to spend $25 … and the card will probably get superseded in a few months.. just ridiculous!

Rainbow 6 Siege was the worst for this that i've seen

      • +1

In no way is Siege pay to win. The only microtransactions in the game are optional weapon skins and optional renown boosts, both do not give any sort of damage or stat boost to the purchaser. The Season Pass content is free after 7 days of its original release. There is absolutely no pay-to-win features on Siege.

      what are you on about?

    • Games have been doing this for a long time, whilst it sucks, its nothing new. It started back on the 360

  • +1

Pretty happy to be picking up Lords of the Fallen finally :)

    • Same, I was so close to buying it recently for $30 from memory… glad I waited ☺

      • +2

Lucky you guys waited. I picked up a copy from Big W for $20 recently. Not my type of game. The combat feels clunky and heavy for my liking.

        • haha same dude, I was holding it the other day and trying to convince myslef that I needed another game lol

    • +1

Funny that it's free now after the massive uproar that it wasn't in one of the big sales. I think it was the countdown to 2015 deals where everyone was expecting it to go cheap?

      • +1

Yeah, that was when it was only $9 for a couple of hours, and then it was on special at the end of the sale for substantially more.

  • +1

Sherlock Holmes is brilliant, the next one is out in the next few months too

  • Lords of the fallen is pretty fun, pretty good game to get for free.

First month they give something good and it's the game I own :|.

    • get the free copy then sell your existing physical copy on ebay :)

Too bad you cant pick up Borderlands XB360 to play on XBOne (backward compatibility) using this method.

    • +1

Why not? It's in the BC list isn't it?

    • +3

You can? Just go to xblive site and purchase it for free, then download on xbone.

4 free games no matter the quality is still 4 free games..

      • +1

Never tried to purchase from the XBLive site. Did not know you can do that.. Thank you for letting me know as the "Store" on the XBOne I think only shows up the XBOne games only.

        • +2

Yep, I also do the lion's share of my XBLive stuff either through the PC or Smartglass app now, I find it heaps easier than fiddling with the console store! :)

        • @StewBalls: Bizarre.. I tried to purchase GoW2 XB360 that is supposedly "free" on Gold but its asking for my paypal (I have a valid XBGold subscription until November).

        • @bchliu: Check your region settings at the bottom left, they are the usual culprit for that sort of issue. ;)

        • +1

          @StewBalls:
Could also be Xbox Live, it's been having issues all week, it was recently all fixed but than the purchasing stuff went down again.

        • @StewBalls: Nah.. its not the region. Its AU for sure.. but asking for Paypal to confirm the purchase.. I think this has happened before when I tried to get xb360 gold games too. The Gold membership is definitely working on the XBOne store and on XBLive Looking glass app.

        • @scuderiarmani: Yes, good point, it was a bit sketchy on & off this week.

        • @bchliu: to purchase 360 games you need to have a payment source linked to your account. No money should be taken as long as you buy the 'free' game

        • @pacsman: Thats very very interesting. Why is that different from an XBOne game? I've scooped about half a dozen games now that I've joined Gold and never asked me for Paypal payment - whereas this is actually asking me for $29.95 out of my paypal. I've tried it on separate PCs and browsers at different times yesterday. Weird..

        • @bchliu: make sure you are choosing the 360 version for the 360. Not the 360 version for the xbox one

        • @bchliu: to get 360 games it usually requires it done on the PC or an xbox360 console, but it requires 'payment on file' even though its 0 dollars

        • You're giving me Forrest Whittaker eye…

        • @Tal_Shiar: I'm pretty sure that troll's not a person, just a bot/script…to wit: it's just the same dumbass comment every thread…so not a chance in hell of passing the Turing test! ;)

What do you mean? All future 360 games on Games With Gold will be backwards compatible.

      • I remember hearing this in an a podcast with Phil Spencer (head of Xbox). He mentioned that going forward, he wants all 360 games with Gold to be backwards compatible. Xbox One owners essentially getting 4 playable games a month.

Here's hoping the original 360 versions of Bioshock 1 and 2 will soon be on the list (and recent news of a trilogy edition means remakes.)

    • Every game that comes out on Games with Gold will work on the Xbox one (since last month of the month before), even if they are 360 games

    • You can you idiot. That is exactly what everybody does on Xbox gold, downloads 4 games for the month onto Xbox One and u play it there, doesnt matter if it's on 360 or XO, every free game is backwards compat and works on both.

  • +1

That'd be right, just purchased Lords of the Fallen digitally on PS4, oh well, good month though. One of the better ones considering the lack of indies.

  • If I subscribe now. Will my subscription be counted towards February or March free games?

    • +1

Both. You'll be able to get both Feb/March.

So happy with my decision to jump from ps3 to xbox one ☝. The gold offerings are now much better than ps plus

  • +1

You should add the dates to this, as some of those games are available for half of the month

Xbox One, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishment for free during the month of March. Lords of the Fallen will be available as a free download from March 16th to April 15th.

On Xbox 360, starting Tuesday, 01 March, Supreme Commander 2 will be free for Xbox Live Gold members through March 15th. Then on March 16th, Xbox Live Gold Members can download Borderlands for free through March 31st.

Updated, ran out of time when I originally posted it.

  • Very happy with these, been contemplating both of them :)

  • +1

If you have a 360 with a live account, still 'purchase' the free XBone games, If you ever upgrade to an XBone the XBone games you purchased will then be available to download for free as they will be attached to you live account.
