Heading to Hawaii. Suggestions on Anything to Buy

Hi

I am going to Hawaii on the weekend for 2 weeks.

Was wondering if there is anything I could get cheap over there.

I know the Aussie dollar isn't what it used to be, but there must be some cheap stuff ?

Thanks

this is something to buy, but perhaps not exactly what you're after

I can't recommend this highly enough Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha…. yes it's shaved ice, but honestly it's like none other you've ever had!
My wife hates shaved ice, but even she loved this!

  • Buy condoms. Better than paying child support

    • yeah buy used and save more.

and then reduce, reuse and recycle /s

hey, i just got back from hawaii 2 weeks ago. was in Waikiki.

if you're thinking of bringing back duty free booze then just go to Walmart (near the Ala Moana Mall) and buy booze there as it's cheapest. e.g. 2 or 1.5 litres of smirnoff for US$20 (I think that was the approx price)

I didn't find stuff cheaper in Hawaii.

if you want to stock up on snacks/groceries and souvenirs then I strongly recommend Walmart. - the cheapest source.

    • I was just about to say this! Booze in a super market is waaaaaay cheaper then duty free

  • Thanks for the comments people. So it looks like booze is the winner…
Another question, I know you can bring in 1 liter of spirits to the US.
Is it cheaper to get it at the australian duty free and take it with me, or get it at the US duty free before going through customs.
I have an inter-island flight after I arrive, so I assume I will need to put it into my luggage

    Cheers

Check out Ross - Dress for Less - they stock end of line designer clothing and shoes for about 75% less. We're there now and I bought some Levi's for 15USD that would have cost me $100 at home. Even with the exchange rate you can score some good bargains at Ross. In Hawaii there is a Ross store in Waikiki, Honolulu, Kahalui, Kona, and Hilo that we went to ourselves. It's a bit Walmart so expect some odd people

Also TJ Maxx and Nordstrom rack at the ward centre. 15-20min bus ride from Waikiki. Waikele outlets as well.

We're in San Diego now and went to both of these today. Got some Tommy Bahama, Tommy Hilfiger, and Levi's off the clearance rack. Dancing a jig

  • I would buy skechers shoes!

    • They have more variety but not necessarily cheaper

  • I just got back, can tell you some stuff to get.

Designer women bags are cheaper, maybe your partner would like to check

Shaved ice - Uncle clays one best shaved ice I had in my life

Stuff in Walmart, heck even prepaid sim has Unlimited data for $30 for 30 days. Forget about offline maps, just google everything from your mobile. Don't waste time with Nokia Here maps. You just can't get everything including traffic conditions and POI

Some clothing stores can find bargains and buy brands that don't exist here

Macadamia - they are pretty good you can buy from their Costco not sure if available here

I suggest you hire a car and drive around, because gas is cheap compare to here. Car rental is reasonable

Also expect better customer service as they get tips for.

  • So I should get prepaid SIM from Walmart? Going there for two weeks in July.

    • Yes, If someone told me earlier I would have skipped all the researching.

Just get a T-mobile one 30 day SIM all you can eat on data I think 5GB on 4G, thereafter 3G unlimited
