Original CTECHIE 20% off deal

This deal is back on again… and they haven't increased the price from the old $1550 price whilst CTECH20 was active yesterday!

Great price for the basic i5 model of the Surface Pro 4. Keyboard not included (it's never included but just thought I'd mention it in case people weren't aware).

Normally $1499 from Microsoft store or $1497 from JB Hi-Fi.

This is Australian stock and does come with a tax invoice for the full amount (good for TRS and whatever other tax stuff people may need it for)

Type cover from Kogan for ~$160 (they only sell Black or Cyan - thanks to SoresuMakashi's comment)

Cashback:

Cashrewards - 1.35%
Shopandmint - 2%
PricePal - 1.25%

  • Can the harddisk be upgraded in the future? 128GB is not enough!

    • No

      • Thanks and why would anyone need only 128GB with higher resolution contents nowadays.

        • +2

          Card slot.

        • Home NAS or Micro SD

NAS solution is much much convenient than individual storage solution on single devices.

        • @claud0902: Agreed, data scattered across devices is becoming a PITA.

    • +2

Get a 200GB micro SD card. Fixed.

      • +1

But can't install programs/applications on the SD card, can we?

        • You can. It'll just be slower than on the SSD.

        • @lolcoaster: ok thank you sir. Still considering…

        • @lolcoaster: Storing data on an SD is alright but not really a long term solution. The SD will die out as the constant read write to it will burn the chip out. Just get a usb 3 external drive, Mount it through the the control panel as a primary partition and you should be good to go. May need to run reg fixes now and then though.

        • +1

@redwards:And then carry said drive around with you everywhere. That's not really a solution.

        • @redwards:

The SD will die out as the constant read write to it will burn the chip out.

For practical usage, it will easily last longer than the lifetime of the SD card.

It's not something to really be concerned about.

      • +3

SD cards does not have as high write cycles so I wouldn't store anything too important on there without backing it up

        • +1

Don't install anything too important anywhere without a backup or two.

I have a Surface Pro 4 i5, I am having flickering issues hooking it up to external monitors. Seems like a common issue from what I googled. Run time is about 4 hours. Way short of my expectations. Considering selling it because of these problems.

On the plus side, the display is very nice and crisp. Full sized USB port is very useful. Logging in via camera is pretty cool. It can differentiate between me and my brother(who looks like me).

  • Shame you can get this price every day just by providing a student number from most major educational institutions. If only you could get the student discount and this extra 20%…

    • +2

To be exact, this is still cheaper by $34.15 + any cashback.

And not everyone has a student card.

      • How did you calculate that difference?

The student price for this shows up as $1349.10 for me..

        • $1349.10 would be with the old 10% student discount ($1499 minus 10%)

But the student discount is now 15%, so that was simply $1499 minus 15% instead of 10%.

        • @illumination:

Looks like it's back to 10% off then..

        • @kirynflare:
Yeah it was only 15% off in Febuary.

    • Either know someone who is a student or get your family members with their teens to buy for you? Maybe free lunch or coffee?

I know its quite shameful but that's the way it is to score good deals.

  • Almost clicked buy except I remembered I am holding out fro Pro 4 with LTE. Seriously, what's the hold up.

    • +2

You're going to be waiting a long time, especially as it would come stateside to their LTE standards first before it ever comes here. Just buy a <$100 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot and be done with it. Easy to upgrade to future Wireless Broadband standards also.

      • +2

Yeah with android phones being a hotspot and phone plans being more generous on data I don't see point of having another sim inside your device. Battery drain may be an issue but instead of a separate device you can carry a power bank.

      • I have a 4Gx hotspot, I just prefer built in.

  • +1

To the Ebay Gods: "please send me 20% of surface book" .
    I can't see any :(

    • That would be awesome!

  • +1

Really wish this was for the i5 8GB :(

  • I was going to grab one of these, but I've decided to hold out for the M3 variant for battery life, cool running & silence reasons…now the wait begins! ;)

    • Is it slower?

      • +1

Theoretically it should be, given the processor is a bit weaker. But depending on what you do, realistically it may feel exactly the same.

I'm not techie enough to elaborate so I'll stop there, but that's my "high level overview" for you.

        • That's actually a pretty accurate synopsis.

I had a think about what I'm gonna be doing with the device & nothing will be intensive enough to really warrant the i5, and every review mentions the heat/fan noise & decreased battery life vs the M3, so I've revised my original plan…it just stings that the i5 is currently the same price as the M3 with this deal…grrr! :/

        • I read in a review for the M3 version that the screen response times are poor. 31.2 ms b2w, and 46ms g2g.

Has that been your experience with your SP3?

  • Token is expired :I
