Looking for a new 4G dual sim mobile phone

Hi, I'm looking to buy a 4g dual sim mobile phone with quad core, removable battery, expandable memory, water resistant and micro SD slot at best price. Huawei phones appear to be the cheapest, is that so? A decent camera with autofocus would be great too. Thanks for all recommendations.

Removable battery and water resistance does not go together.

      Galaxy S5?

      • I just ordered one of these. Couldn't find a better combination of features for the price.

    • You cannot get a phone which has a user-removable battery that is also water resistant.

    • Also, keep in mind that even if the phone is advertised as a 4G device, the secondary SIM will only be 2G.

    • No phones use 3G for secondary SIM?

Not so much for the data but GSM is being turned off in most countries so not very future proof.

      Yes you can…the Galaxy S5.

Starting from December, Telstra 2G services will shut down followed by Optus in April 2017.

    Vodafone hasn't said anything.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy A3 and am very happy with it.

Is that water proof, dual sim, removable battery etc that the Op has asked?

  • Thanks everyone, I guess I'll forgo the water resistance in favour of removable battery.

Ok now we are talking. You have choices, redmi note 2, note 3 pro, MI4c, LG g3, Xperia z3.

      • +1

z3 doesnt have a removable battery i thought.

          My bad.. You are right.

        • @pyramid:
Ive had Z, Z2 and now Z5 so assumed Z3 would be the same.

        • @PVA: Yes z series is water n dust proof so non removable battery. I used z n z2 both fantastic phone.

  • Isn't expandable memory and micro sd slot the same thing?

Note that a lot of dual sim phones the second sim slot is also the micro sd slot, so if you have two sims in the phone you can't add a memory card.

Go the Motorola 3rd Gen unlocked. I have the 2nd Gen version and it hasn't missed a beat.
2 sim slots + micro sd storage.
Great reviews and price. IPX7 water resistant. Purchase the phone on eBay and you get an extra 20% off ATM via "The good guys"

      Screen: 5-inch, 720p HD (1280 x 720),
      Video: 1080p HD video, 30 fps (MPEG4, H.264)

How do you get 1080p video on a 720p screen without it being downscaled to 720p?

      • The video still records at 1080p but is shown on the phone at 720p. If you put that video file on a 1080p screen it will work fine.

    • I bought one based on your suggestion. My LG G4 recently stopped working…

  • Thanks again everyone for taking the time to help, I'll have a look at all suggestions. Also exposed my ignorance by wanting expandable and micro SD :) :) No one's mentioned Huawei, is it not well regarded? The cheapskate in me likes their prices.

Your initial question was big vague without giving information like budget which is most imp. Yes Huawei are good phone..

Bear in mind that dual-SIM devices (at least the current ones) only have data (3G/4G) active on one SIM at a time…the second SIM will only be able to use 2G.

Ignore the pricing as it doesn't help but this site helps you find the perfect phone for your needs

  • I suppose that you want all the features of a premium phone but only want to pay the price of a budget phone. Not gonna happen.

No need for your snarky suppose, he said what he wants. Besides this is ozbargain, nobody comes here looking for a rubbish deal.

    Near Flagship or Backup
I am seriously considering the LG G4 dual sim. I like the new laser auto focus for portraits. Apx $AUD 450 Android Enjoy.
Unsure about phone frequencies and what are the G4 lte must have frequencies in OZ. The single sim LG seems to cover all OZ frequencies, wonder if the firmware can be ported to dual sim?
As a Backup cheaper dual sim mobile I lean towards the samsung galaxy J1 -(Samsung unlocked version only not the reduced price optus/voda locked etc).
    Maybe $AUD 150 Dick Smith.

I currently have a Moto X Style single sim that I'm very happy with. The single sim version contains an extra long tray with space for 2 nano sims and a microSD card, but the second nano sim spot is has a plastic filler. The dual sim version is available in India online from flipkart, but I haven't pulled the trigger and the eBay price of $984 is too expensive compared to the single sim version.

Use gsmarena to choose the phone. I got Asus Zenfone2 for $319 off eBay

  • Thank you, everyone, for all your helpful comments, Got some birthday money so will decided soon :)

  • I'm not that tech savvy but do travel alot. What exact is the benefit of a dual sim phone? Aren't you paying for 2 different plans then…?

    • +1

I travel a lot and the main advantage with dual sim phone is that when i arrive at the visiting country, I can get a local prepaid sim which I can use for local call and data. Dual sim phone mean I can set so that DATA use the local sim and when people call me on my Australia number, I still can get their call. I also put my local sim card number in my outlook away message, so people can contact me direct to save on roaming charge.

      • Ah ok makes sense. Looking for a new plan anyway. Trying to find a new mobile provider to go on contract with for the Samsung S7 as Amaysim's roaming charges each time I go to USA is just a joke…. and the worst reception….

  • problem with dualies is that operating 2 cellular radio's taxes the battery BIG time. If you recall back in the day when your lovely nokia's lasted a week, thats due to the cellular radio not using so much. 3G came along as so did the battery woes. So having a 3G and LTE radio operating at the same time will be somewhat resultant in a reduced battery life. It'll need to happen eventually as GSM networks are being closed down to freeup the spectrum for refarming etc
