Sony Bravia 55inch 4K TV KD55X8500C at Costco (Membership Required) - $1599

160

On sale at Costco with an instant $300 coupon applied at checkout making it $1599. A lot of stock available at Costco Auburn, and should also be available at all other Costcos as it is a national wide coupon offer.

I know it is more expensive than the recent eBay deal. But that is now over and purchases at Costco brings about an extra piece of mind with their satisfaction guarantee.

      No lifetime warranty tho…

      • Since when do you get lifetime warranty on a Television?.

        • +5

          At Costco, you do. ;-)

        • @Dreamcazman:

Only as long as you keep paying and renewing the Costco membership. So it's really limited to your Costco membership so not really lifetime unless you keep a Costco membership for life.

        • @Dreamcazman: The only thing in any way related to this on their whole web site is:

We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price. This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Where are you getting the information about a lifetime warranty?

        • Because I asked them. Before I bought my TV, I specifically asked a staff member at the service desk and they agreed. Hypothetically, if the TV died in 5 yrs I could bring it back for a refund. Even I was amazed.

Yes, you have to be a continual member and renew every year. For $55/$60 who wouldn't renew?

        • @Dreamcazman: I'm not going to risk such a thing on the say-so of some random worker and one ambiguous sentence on a web site!

    • I think you are looking at a different model. This model is $200 more at JB.

  • As per my knowledge, Costco lifetime membership is valid till you are member of costco..i.e. as an example, if you purchase any product today and you decide to discontinue with your membership after 5 years, than your warranty is expired with your membership.

    • If you are a regular shopper there its great.

However if not then you need to weigh up the cost of membership (say 5x years = $300) vs upfront payment.
After 10 years the $600 you would have saved is probably worth $800 so you could just buy a new TV.

True, but I believe, that should not called Lifetime warranty, it should call "Membership warranty"

    • Let membership lapse, then rejoin when necessary?

      • I wanted to find out the answer too.

        • Letting your membership lapse & then rejoin later won't work as everything you buy is recorded on your account. If it lapses, you will have to get a new card with a new number, etc effectively starting again from scratch.

Actually after rejoining you still keep your old card and account. My membership lapsed for a year, then I rejoined, and they just reactivated my old card. But like you said, it is all recorded on your account, so your warranty doesn't come back.

Costco is fantastic and well worth the membership price. You'll make your membership back easily in your first shop. I go there once every couple of weeks. The lifetime warranty is an especially awesome bonus. They also have a great returns policy. ie If you don't like something - food, electronics, whatever - they will refund your money (within reason of course). Will be a member for life!
