IPS Backlight Bleed (@Lenovo ThinkPad E460/E560 Owners)

There's been a bunch of great deals on ThinkPad E460/E560 models on OzB lately, mostly submitted by TA.

Finally got mine today but it suffers from some pretty bad bleeding on the top/bottom edge of the display. Anyone else had a similar issue? Should I be sending it back? Help would be appreciated.

whats the screen like when you are using it, it is noticeable then?

It's definitely noticeable even in normal lighting, as long as the background is dark. I might just change to a bright desktop background and live with it though.

      • still disappointing though.

  • tips for how to check that issue maybe helpful so people can try and report.

Backlight bleeding is common with cheap IPS screens. Even if you return it, there's no guarantee you will get a near perfect screen. You will probably have some degree of backlight bleed.

My tip is to press the edge of the laptop together to minimise gaps between the screen and the external case. It works to some extent.

    • Yeah I'm just wondering if all the E460/E560s are this bad, or if I got particularly unlucky. Unfortunately, I may just have to deal with it, since the replacement and setup process for a laptop takes so much time and effort.

  • Yep, as I mentioned in this post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/234365), I had an E560 with backlight issues (http://i.imgur.com/SiXiKQ5.jpg). I sent it back for refund. Lenovo had a full refund policy incl. return shipping if initiated within 14 days of delivery iirc.

  • Its just the display…
I did a RMA for a USB port issue (erratic connection when connected to phones).
Both the laptops have backlight bleed…
