Honda 4 Stroke UMS425 Bent Shaft Domestic Brush Cutter/Line Trimmer $319.00. Save $80 off RRP

130

I have been perservering with a Bunnings 2 stroke brush cutter purhased about 8 years ago (Kaaz was the brand) and, although still going, had some faults. Weekend just past, accidently dropped it and cracked the fuel tank. Spare parts for an unknown brand rarer than hens teeth. Always loved Honda (have a Honda motor scooter, mower and camp gennie, all quality Japanese items that are a pleasure to use. Searched and found this deal on the trimmers, so purchased one today. Nice to see it start first pull cold with plenty of power. Did notice that its not actually made in Japan but rather Thailand. Oh well, should last well i hope. Not a bad deal………….. Save $80 off RRP with a 4 year domestic waranty……….Hope this ifnd will benefit some of you out there that may be in the market for an upgrade.

  • depending on what type of plastic the tank is made out of, you can melt/weld it back together with a soldering iron

    • What if you accidentally ignite fuel vapours?. I don't think you're supposed to weld a fuel tank if there's any fuel residue in it.

LOL. Do you know what a soldering iron is?

        • Mine's gas powered ;)

a wise man would empty the fuel tank first.

a few years ago i managed to crack my lawn mower tank. the lawn mower shop man told me to take it to a plastic repairer, as tanks are relatively expensive. iirc, the plastic repairer melted a groove down the crack and then melted some new plastic in to fill the crack. i remember he said only some types of plastic were suitable. cost $10. bargain!

      • I hear ya and yes, i have repair plastic trail bike fuel tanks and other plasics on a trail bike using the same method. I have even heard of kayak fishoes repairing their kayaks using the same method

      • Depending on the fuel, emptying a tank can make it worse.

  • Thanks for the tip mtg. It had other issues as well. A split/broken fuel cap was a hassle in itself as well as dangerous. Been using it for the last few months with a peice of pool noodle stuffed into the tank filler. No auto feeding line dispenser was also a PITA……No, it was time for an upgrade……

Had a 4 stroke Honda one blew up after 2 years. Never again. Gone back to stilh 2 stroke. Still good after 8 years

    • Two years??? just as well they come with a 4 warenty. Started to panic then….:-)

      • They only recently increased to 4 years.

  • Good price… =)

Anyone interested in the straight honda UMK425L can be still bought cheap.. Even though shows EXPIRED. Its not can still be bought.

    • Yeh Damned, great deal. If i had a bigger yard and could use it at work a bit (i am in costruction), i prob would have considered a more proffessional model however, for a 640M2 residential blcok, the UMS425 should serve me well.

  • Lots of double entendres in this post

These are normally $299… Got mine for that price a couple years ago - seems that's the regular price. Massive improvement on Bunnings ones

  • Much better to get the straight shaft model.

The bent shaft ones are ergonomically "bizarre"

I have the KAAZ brushcutter with the Honda 4 stroke on it. Very nice machine, so quiet compared to 2 stroke.

Only disadvantage that I can see is that it sounds like a postie bike. However that kind of makes it fun :-)

    • I have both bend and straight shaft honda trimmers. I find it easier to do the edges using the bent shaft.

    • Only disadvantage that I can see is that it sounds like a postie bike

Yep, all the neighbourhood dogs will go nuts every time you mow your lawn…

  • That's a really nice shaft

  • Honda best motors for this kinda stuff although the bent shaft is a deal breaker for me!

    Bent Shaft Domestic Brush Cutter

I would have expected more than an $80 discount for a bent shaft…

    • That's why you do a pre-nup.

$299 if you are in NSW with free delivery

    • Thanks for posting that link Ashleyd. Yes, i saw that dealer last night when esearching the model however, for a $20 saving, was not going to chance not having the trimmer before Easter (i was desperate for one immediatly)

    • Ordered last night from all mowers, SMS received today saying it will arrive tomorrow!!
      Excellent, thanks.

  • Gets 8 years from cheapest product in market. Replaces with competitor at 2-3x price.

    Sounds like a meme.

    • Kaaz is an expensive brand.

  • I have had mine for over 3 years hasn't skipped a beat, plenty of power and starts first time every time. I paid $299 on special the RRP was $360 back then, definitely recommend it.

    • Give it one more year and you will have known carburettor and ignition coil issue.

      • Mine lasted ~7 years before the carby needed replacing.

        • They don't make things how it was made last time

        • I read somewhere (on one of those review forums) that most small petrol powered engines do not like a carby full of fuel, stored for the short time, can be fatal stored like that in the long term (during the off season, Winter for instance). There was a recomendation on this site to drain the fuel out of the tank after each use then, start the engine and run it at idle unttil it stalls, starving itself of fuel. Thid way you are left with a dry carberetor, and no fuel within it to perish/eat away at the rubber o-rings and seals.

Anyone heard of this maintanance tactic????

        • @cobba:

It's actually in the instruction manual.

One other bullshit that mower store like to say is that fuel deteriorate after a long time which can cause it to not start. Total crap IMO.

        • @ca6leguy:

i'm sure most modern rubber o-rings are well capable of handling petrol. fuel does deteriorate after a while and will gum up the carby with a residue - the reason you drain the tank & carby before long term storage. always get smaller amounts of fresh petrol. alternatively, you can buy fuel stabiliser that supposedly makes petrol good for 12-24 months.

  • I love my Honda Whipper Snipper. I bought this model a few years ago, but it is still going strong!

It starts and everything! Starts Easily.

At the time the motor itself was the same as the Commercial / Straight Shaft models that are much more expensive. So to my mind it has power to burn and does it job easily.

This is the best money my shoulder ever spent.
