Airport Strikes and Easter Travel

Hi all

We have an international flight this Thursday and i just saw the news about the 24 hour strike at Perth airport.

I called Emirates and they were not sure about the impact.

Is anyone else in this situatio ? If so what are you doing?

Thanks

  • There's always something in the news about public servants wanting a larger slice of the pie.

My tip: Allow an hour or two more than what you would normally give yourselves had the strike action not been announced. There's not really much you could do apart from that, unless you were travelling at the nose end of the aircraft I'm afraid…

    • Thanks for your reply, i will just going early and see. It doesnt sound good with a 24 hour strike though!

      • +1

The strike, as severe as it sounds, probably won't mean that there are no staff on the job.

100% of the rostered staff wouldn't go on strike, and these strikes generally mean a severe case of understaffing as opposed to nobody working. So, best bet would be to treat this not as a strike, but as a forewarned shortage of staff. Give yourselves plenty of time, way more than what you would normally arrange for, and you'll have a pleasant trip.

There will be a lot of waiting though!

  • Given Jetstar bagdrop doesnt open til 3hrs before the flight time - I plan on web check and dropping bags as early as can be to then make way through customs. Can't do much more than that.

  • get a travel insurance

  • Thanks guys, i will get to their airport early.

Re the comment on travel insurance- luckily i have travel insurance which i got months ago and it will cover the strikes.
But be careful buying it now and thinking it will cover the strike as its already been public so they may not cover you for it.
