What will the renewal charges be for this (as it is only for 1 year)
EDIT: Found this $129.76 / yr

Just remember that EV certs require a bit more validation (Extended Validation in fact!)

You must be a registered business in your country, and your business phone number must be listed in your local phone directory to pass the extended validation.

    This.

Edit: For personal use, I'd recommend https://www.startssl.com/ - they've improved a lot recently.

You need to stop using StartSSL. It's now owned by Qihoo 360

For all intents and purposes… Let's Encrypt has replaced StartSSL as the "go to" place for free SSL certificates. And Let's Encrypt is based in California and has some major sponsors (Mozilla, Facebook, Amakai, Google Chrome, etc).

        https://pierrekim.github.io/blog/2016-02-16-why-i-stopped-us…

Yikes! Thankfully I only use it to secure my private site, but thanks heaps for the tip!

      • Unfortunately all certs generated by Let's Encrypt go into a publicly searchable list which means if you're running a site you'd rather not be stumbled across or attempted to DOS/brute-force by skiddies they're not so good (e.g. web-enabled services at your home). Otherwise a decent service if you can automate renewal etc. (which is another problem if you use with cloud providers which need manual cert upload).

    • I use that myself :D

I personally can't think of why anyone would want the EV SSL (i.e. green bar) for just one year - but should that be the case then this would be a good deal for that year. However, should you want longer than 12 months EV SSL then I would suggest finding a cheaper long-term partner so you don't have to switch SSL which can be a royal pain depending on your web structure. GoGetSSL are usually well priced for SSL and they do Comodo EV SSL for US$46.85/year and if you send them a request they will discount the price further for you.

Alternatively if you don't need the EV green bar then Let's Encrypt for free is a no brainer if your host allows it (as of a few months ago VentraIP/Zuver didn't)

Ahh, I see it's still public beta.. Thought for a minute it might've been final! :(

      • True, but for those who are looking to save $10/year by getting a free SSL I'd say they don't particularly mind :)

    • actually the goget one is also for only one year and they wont allow you to renew at that price too.
it's the same as ssltrust special but ssltrust is cheaper :-)

      • My apologies Paul, you are correct. I wish I could go back and edit my comment now. The ongoing GoGetSSL cost of a Comodo EV SLL is US$86/year which brings it closer to your renewal cost.

No doubt your deal for $11.60 for 1 year EV SSL is a great deal, if I could think of someone who would want an EV SSL for just 12 months…

  • if anyone wants a different kind of SSL such as a wildcard or multi-domain one please let me know and i will try get a special going :-)
