    Hi there,

I'm Liam from VPN.sh - feel free to direct any questions you may have about our VPN service to me :). It's about time for me to head off to bed (I'm in the UK), however I'll be around when I wake!

A few things which people may be interested in:

    • As of right now, we do NOT allow torrenting on our network. We plan to allow this on specific torrenting servers starting in May. Please see http://vpn.sh/torrents
    • The service has been running to a very acceptable standard for a long time now. If you've had issues with the service in the past, open a support ticket on your account, and I'll provide you with a free month of service so that you can see that the service has very much had a turnaround.
    • Netflix USA isn't working as of right now, however we'll be adding USA Streaming servers which should work with Netflix within the next few weeks, which all clients (existing and new) will have access to.
    • We don't log the data which you access whilst connected to the service.

I hope that clarifies a few things which you may be interested in. If there's anything else, as mentioned, just drop a line in here and I'll get back to you.

    Cheers,
    Liam

      Hi Liam,

Can I confirm if this VPN would work if you are connecting from mainland China as well?

I occasionally require to travel there and would definitely be very helpful if this would work for connection from China.

      • +1

I don't think it does. I tried to use this vpn in china over the Christmas break and it didn't work…

      • +1

        Hi there,

As mentioned by @triviums, our service doesn't work (for the most part) in China. Unfortunately they've placed our server behind their firewall.

        Sorry about this!

        Liam

        • Actually, it does work in China, though not consistently. It varies depends on the isp, location, server, protocol, time of the month, etc.
Last I used this in China was about 2 weeks ago, I can generally get access by switching server/protocol within 3 tries.

        • -1

          @nospirit:

Time if month eh? Those fickle Chinese women.

    • So what happened to those of us who had money in your FixedRoute account but that disappeared/closed down and we lost our money?

Netflix doesn't appear to work on this VPN (in case someone was thinking of this).

      • +1

I had fixedroute … got an email from them when they were closing down and they had instructions on how to request a refund. Was easy and refund came through. Have now been using vpn.sh for casual use and considering the price am happy for general browsing when travelling using public hotspots.

      • +2

As mentioned by @nonpop below, we provided information to our FixedRoute clients so that they could get refunded. Did you open a support ticket at FixedRoute as advised? If not, please PM me with the email address from which you sent the PayPal payment, and I'll double check at our end and process a refund for you.

        • I didn't get an email & I emailed both @fixedroute & @vpn.sh asking about it & no response.

        • +1

@supabrudda: Now's your chance to follow it up & let us all know how you get on…this Rep certainly sounds like he's keen to help! :)

        • +2

          @StewBalls: Thanks I will.
I actually thought I was reasonable & asked for the credit to be moved to vpn.sh (so it doesn't even cost them money). But no response was received,

Alas I can't login (there's no option on the site any more) to log a support ticket.
If I remember correctly it was my.fixedroute.com I was able to login but the support ticket didn't work (hence using email).

Anyway ask for the vpn.sh I've commented on them before.
For a cheap & cheerful VPN service you certainly get good value for your money.
I wouldn't use them as your only provider as they often have issues on the weekend. Being UK based issues (such as unable to connect) often don't get fixed until Monday evening Oz time. Their speeds are quite quick (I used to use them for streaming Livestream.com & they worked better then other more expensive providers such as IBVPN & Witopia.

        • -4

          your Silence is deafening Liam.
          I've PM'd you. as I mention above I've emailed support (@vpn,sh & fixedroute.com) last year.

I never received the email you apparently sent about the closure (not in spam, etc). The last one was the apology & compo offer of 5 free months on 28 June 2015.
Of course a trustworthy operator wouldn't need custoemrs to log a support request, they'd do it automatically.

        • +5

          @supabrudda:

Because he is asleep? He stated he is in the UK…

        • -5

@michael_123: Meh, I'm giving him a hard time because he's being dodgy. I paid up in March last year got a few months of service. He was late providing it (late August, when it was promise April), then took my money & ran.

So I'm getting my $us25 worth by hassling him. You wouldn't do the same?

        • @supabrudda: uve sold me on the livestream.com alone!! bring on the NRL…

        • @sachz: actually ive switched to dns4me.net for that. Use Brazil as your region & most games not shown on ch9 will go love (and no buffering as its not a vpn, so its quicker). And the quality is really good.

But no grudges with vpn.sh is quicker then many of the other vpn's I've tried (my main one is torguard which is actually quicker for most places & more options/servers, but its $us30/yr using a coupon).

        • +3

          @supabrudda:

As @michael_123 assumed, I was sleeping :). I've now responded to your PM and hope to get this all sorted out for you soon!

        • +3

          @supabrudda:

Bloody hell mate, give him a chance.

        • @stonkered: So you think emails to both fixedroute & VPN from Novemember last year (5 months) which went unanswered isn't giving him a fair chance?

So when he sticks his head up, I'm shooting :-)

I'm being fair when reviewing vpn.sh service. But you just have to look at all the previous vpn.sh deal threads to see how hard it is to get refunds for services not provided.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/vpn.sh

        • @LiamWithers: Nope I haven't heard back…have I given you enougfh time yet?

        • +1

@stonkered: Do you reckon now is long enough to wait without a response to get stuck into him again? :-)

        • @supabrudda:

Ahahaaa, yes, perhaps i was wrong :D Stick the boots in!

        • +1

@stonkered: Nah all good. if I'd read my comments I would have responded the same way :-)

Going by all the posts over the years Liam's good at appearing telling people to PM him with the issues from the previous deals (usually refunds) then disappearing again.

I figure I' not going to see my money, so I'll just take potshots when he sticks his head up - you can't put a price on having fun

    • We don't log the data which you access whilst connected to the service.

      Why such confusing wording?

    • Do you have any plans to add a Korean server any time soon? I'll be subscribing anyway, but just wondering. :)

    • Any way of proving your VPN is not a honeypot? I don't see the point of a VPN if you (or any) provider can't.

    • Hi Liam,
I bought the VPN service last week and it is not working on my Mac. It says the server is unreachable.
For "server address" is it australia.vpn.sh ?
      (My e-mail is [email protected])

      Cheers

  • +1

Thanks OP just signed up. Great price for an occasional use VPN like I was hoping for.

    • Enjoy the service!

  • +1

Your invoice have a placeholder logo

    • That's a VPL…

    • Thanks for the heads up! This has now been updated :).

  • I just signed it, hope that will be working well,

  • Noob question - I have a subscription to one of the international soccer leagues. While I can watch that particular country's league matches they block the Premier and Spanish leagues. Would this allow me to watch those as well or still prevent me as they would simply look at my email address when I login and see that I am in Aus?

    • Also how much is this worth normally?

      • Hi there,

Which website is the subscription with? I'll need to verify from this end to see what's available, as different sites perform different blocking procedures.

The service is normally priced at £5/month (roughly $9.30 AUD), so this is a very heavily discounted price (and likely to be our final low-price yearly offering).

        Cheers,
        Liam

  • Hi Rep,
I could not open the Open VPN client and could not setup the location, after I have installed openvpn installer, and I downloaded the location zip file, can someone help me, how to set up, thanks.
    PS, mine is Windows 10

    • +2

      Hi there,

Have you taken a look at this tutorial: http://vpn.sh/tutorial-windows-7-openvpn

If you're using Windows 10, please keep an eye on http://vpn.sh/tutorials - the tutorial will be uploaded tomorrow.

EDIT: My apologies, just spotted your note saying that you're using Windows 10. As mentioned above, this will be uploaded tomorrow, I just need to put together the final steps on the guide. Please check the tutorials page (http://vpn.sh/tutorials) in 24 hours and you should be able to access the OpenVPN guide for Windows 10. Apologies for the inconvenience, and I appreciate your patience!

      Cheers,
      Liam

      • thanks Liam, I will try on tomorrow with your instruction, good luck!

      • -3

        Hi Liam,
someone helped me to log in and it's working now but torrent wasn't working,
        any suggestion, appreciate it,
        thanks,

        • +3

As of right now, we do NOT allow torrenting on our network

      • still no windows 10 tutorial, isnt like every1 on windows 10 already, amazed no tutorial until today (tomorrow).?

    • +3

Extract the zip file to your OpenVPN install directory under the config subdirectory (so C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config for me).

Then, run OpenVPN GUI which should pop up in your notification area. Rightclick that and under the submenu for a country, click connect. Your username and password are available from the client area : http://www.vpn.sh/clients/index.php under My Services.

To disconnect, use the same submenu for the country you are connected to. This must be done if you want to change countries by the way.

      • beautiful, thanks for your help, it's working now, speed is getting slow down but still good,
when I tried with torrent, port wasn't opened, download is really slow,
pls suggest me better port numbers, cheers

        • Port doesn't matter, and to memory, I don't think VPN.sh suppot torrenting on their network, hence you being throttled down. That said, if you run a speed test of attempt to download files, the speed isn't all too bad.

  • Their IPs are sometimes blocked from commenting on OZBargain! Also got CAPCHAs on google, Whirlpool etc many times. Got a little annoying.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure ozbargain blocks all known vpn ip addresses so that's normal. Here's a post about it

      • I am connected to Silicon Valley through PIA at the moment

    • Commenting from Switzerland through VPN.sh at the moment.

  • can I start my subscription only when torrenting is allowed?
or when exactly will torrenting be allowed?

    • +3

Mate its only $6 a year which is 50c a month torrenting will be potentially available around May so better get in while its at this price

      • +1

That's a maybe we want 100% confirmation available in May then I will pay that $6. Got no use for VPN except torrenting or sending traffic back to home server

    • no reply from liam?

  • +1

I have purchased the VPN it's still pending. Payment has been confirmed

    • Took about 5 minutes for it to get activated. Got an email on that.

  • I haven't got my login details payment has been confirmed though

  • +1

    Liam spelt backwards = mail

    • +1

      Do you do everything backwards?

  • Just a couple of questions:

    1. Plenty of bad VPN's for cheap prices. Usual recommendation is you get what you pay for, how does VPN.sh compare.

    2. I use a google chromebook quite a bit, anyway to get this working through that device.

    Thanks.

  • So it doesn't work with Netflix?

    • Nope. Try dns4me.net (smart DNS provider) it's still working a treat for me (I use Canada).
Not many VPN provide3rs will work any more. I suspect they're waiting for teh Netflix assault to stop before they attempt to get it working again.

  • +7

Used to be their client, always had unreliable connection. Can't recommend them even for this price.

    • From rep:

The service has been running to a very acceptable standard for a long time now. If you've had issues with the service in the past, open a support ticket on your account, and I'll provide you with a free month of service so that you can see that the service has very much had a turnaround.

      • Yeah alas as I've mention above & with previous deals, it's ok, but tends to have issues onver the weekend, which don't get resolved until Monday evening Oz time.

It's cheap & cheerful, but don't rely on it to be up all the time.

  • +6

    Tried it, refunded it promptly.

Barely does anything, speeds are slow, and forbid if you do anything pirate like just locks the whole process. Avoid

    • +1

I purchased this VPN this morning and haven't experienced the same issue. Have tried UK, Switzerland and USA (any) servers a few times and every test I have conducted only had a speed loss of around 5%

  • You get what you pay for basically. It will work, but with bad speeds. I guess good if you just need to do some private browsing and don't care of the speed?

Forget about torrenting or watching blocked videos.

  • +1

Don't pay or use any VPN that doesn't provide a canary and is fully transparent. And if you torrent use a seedbox and SFTP.

    • Do you know a good seedbox you'd recommend?

  • It was 1 GBP a year recurring last year, am not paying anything more than a past offer

    • I don't believe it was unlimited previously though. I'm considering purchasing this and letting my 1GBP a year plan expire

  • Doesn't seem to work for me, how do I get my money back….

  • Just wondering whether this may work with Netflix at all or nah?

    • +1

      nup

  • i use torrent and download movies..
    i have access to netflix.

why do people subscribe for paid vpn..

sorry for being naive.. genuine responses please!

  • +3

Folks, stay away from this. I subscribed last time and while the service was okay for first month or so, issues started up including software glitches, disconnects, software showing as VPN connected, while an IPLookup showing your original location. And absolutely no support from the guys.

    • Yep, avoid like the plague!!

    • I had a fair bit of trouble using OpenVPN with this as well.

Then I noticed they also support L2TP/IPSec. So you can set it up with Windows/Android built in network/VPN support. No problems now. Everything works as advertised, connects/disconnects quickly, and the tunnel is reliably used.

  • newbie question, so dont laugh :)
I connected the vpn to watch BBC, it is working on my Android tablet, but I cannot connect the tablet to my Chromecast. Anyway to have them connected, eg should the vpn be installed on a router instead? Any tips/links?

    thank you!

    • +3

      Hi there,

Yes, that's correct, you'd need to get the VPN installed on your router instead (which can be a quite a pain for a large amount of routers). I'm a big Chromecast user myself, and feel your pain!

Essentially, when you tell an app on your Android tablet to send something to the Chromecast, the Chromecast will then try to directly stream the content over your network, rather than going through the tablet. This means that even if your Android tablet is on a VPN, if the router isn't, then you won't be able to access the content that you're trying to stream.

One simple "solution" (not really an ideal solution, but it's a workaround I guess) for this, is to load the content that you wish to access on a PC or laptop using Google Chrome, and to cast the specific tab that has the streaming content over to the Chromecast. This can be done with the Google Cast Extension.

Alternatively, if your Android tablet allows you to cast the entire device to your Chromecast (here's a tutorial for it: link ), then you can play the content on your Android device and cast the entire screen to your Chromecast, which should also work.

      Hope that helps!

      Cheers,
      Liam

      • Thanks for your reply, Liam,

I have tried so far option #2, to do a screen cast from the tablet - no luck, the Chromecast app cannot find the Chromecast hardware when VPN connected.

        Will try #1 today.
        Cheers,

    • +1

you're better off with a SmartDNS provider, that is an easy change on your router & will route BBC stuff (including chromecast) via a UK proxy,

  • +4

    Hi all,
I joined in earlier today and got activated a few hours later. The following is my experience which I like to share :
    1. I connected to their Aus servers using Mac. I chose Aus because I would like to know their speed and I think as long as the authority does not know me who is the streaming but somebody in Australia then I dont really care (there are some 25 millions people in Oz).
    2. I use PPTP and my Mac give me warning being not to secure but this can be fixed using OpenVPN. I just need to get Mac OSX OpenVPN client (Tunnelblick springs to my mind), and download their server location files then it should be fine. So if you use Android (which I will test later) then OpenVPN is recommended.
    3. I streamed a few Chinese and Japanese news site. These are live TV playing in HD. Results were good. I did not get any stuttering.
    4. Then I used Kodi/Exodus to stream Deadpool for about 10 minutes in HD - results were good also, played smoothly.
    5. Browsing speed also good.

So, for around $6/yr, I certainly say their service is a bang for money. I have an PIA account too btw but I paid around USD30/yr with them. PIA gave me better user experience because they have provided me with their client application so I was up and running within minutes with them.
However, for just $6/yr and for my streaming needs - I give VPN.SH a thumbs up.

  • +1

If no torrent no go. Let us know which server we can use torrents then I will think about that $6

  • Can this be used for PremierLeaguePass OP?

  • got activation email , login to vpn.sh is ok, but the vpn connection (on ios , on windows) always report "authentication failed"….

    • fixed.. pls ignore this post.

    • yeah i have same issue as well, when i connect it's keep coming authentication failure. can you please advice me how did you fix it?

  • +1

Where is the promised Windows 10 tutorial it's been over 24hrs now. I bought this yesterday and the 64bit vista+ software I installed looks nothing like in the windows 7 tutorial software. Paid for vpn that I can't use.

    • someone helped me to setup with WIN10 and it's working:
Extract the zip file to your OpenVPN install directory under the config subdirectory (so C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config for me).

Then, run OpenVPN GUI which should pop up in your notification area. Rightclick that and under the submenu for a country, click connect. Your username and password are available from the client area : http://www.vpn.sh/clients/index.php under My Services.

To disconnect, use the same submenu for the country you are connected to. This must be done if you want to change countries by the way.

      • Thanks very much for that, worked a treat.
Watching nz tv with no problems with download so far.

Just a bummer with the openvpn you have to manually enter your user and password everytime to change region as well as the timezone on windows to suit the region…

      • Thank you very much this worked for me now!

      • From my experience you are better off skipping OpenVPN and using the L2TP/IPSec option built into Windows (You also won't need to enter your username and password every time).

        • VPN type is L2TP/IPSec with pre-shared key
        • Server names are in the config files you downloaded (e.g usawestcoast.vpnshserver.com)
        • Your initial subscription confirmation would have contained the pre-shared key.
        • Type of sign in is User name and password (and you should already know those

That should be enough info to get you up and running on windows/android/etc.

  • +1

Perhaps you could add some Latino endpoints: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico? They can be useful for acquiring games cheaply.

  • How long did it take everyone else to have their payment confirmed? Still waiting for mine.

    • Couple of hours for me.
May take some time cause its over in england or something? So different timezone…

      • Bought it at 9am AEST, still nothing. Not looking good for customer service if it's empty on a Sunday.
