Anyone have any feedback on using robotic vacuums for pet hair? My mum has a labrador that sheds everywhere and it would be nice to have something that did some light cleaning every day to help out and keep the place looking better.

    • Was about to ask this as well.

i've heard/read reviews its not a replacement for traditional vacumming but rather a supplement to it. less tumbleweed/dust

I have one, although maybe an earlier model.
It picks up dog hair no worries…BUT I also have a girlfriend with long LONG hair. This is an issue.

Long hairs get wrapped around the brush, which then catches dog hair, until the brush is a mass of hair.

I have to clean the hairs out after every second run, but thats fine.

Does a better job than I expected it would.
I just need to shave the partner's head.

      • Hahaha .. same boat … but with the dyson stick its only once every 20 or so cleans.

      • spot on, had a lg roboking and now a samsung vr9000 and my wife and daughters long hair seems to be the main issues for it

but they help with keeping the general dust/sand from 3 kids under 10 and a dog and cat down to a minimum. Instead of sweeping daily and vacuuming 3x a week, only need to sweep the tiles and vac over the carpet areas once a week

it is not a replacement for a vacuum, just don't need to do it as often which is nice.

      • +3

Now all we need is a robot to clean the hairs out…

    • This thing is useless for pet hair. Yes, its not a vacuum, its a "sweeper" - but when it says "Strong pick up of pet hair" on the box, that's what you'd expect. Currently taking Good Guys to VCAT as they wont refund, based on item not performing to specified standards.

DO NOT BUY…especially from Good Guys!

I don't have this particular model (I have a Neato). But a robot vacuum is about the best investment we've made this year. I have two cats and it picks up their hairs no problems. In reality, no-one vacuums as much as they should, so having these little robots pick up the slack between deep cleans is awesome. Plus I am still fascinated by the way it maneuvers around the house :)

      • +1

I've had various roombas for something like 10 years and still have to drag myself away from watching it run around :)

  • It picks up dog hairs with ease, so it does what I had hoped it would.
    Bad Points−
If you have an open plan house then you can't really predict where it will go and you will need to close doors and keep an eye on it and move it every so often.

    ~a review online

  • Anyone got this particular model that can attest to its capability? I've gotten my wife over the line on our 'need' for a robot vacuum but would rather pay more for a capable one if this is weak. I've wooden floors which makes these quite viable I think.

    • for wooden floors all you will need is a dust mop for a quick sweep clean:
      http://www.oates.com.au/ProductDisplay.aspx?category=SX60201…

Along with a dustpan to collect the bits when all gathered up:
      http://www.oates.com.au/ProductDisplay.aspx?category=SX70150…

Hardly worth paying $300 & dealing with recharging costs & dealing with early electronics death (as so many of these are prone to).

    • I have wood floors and bought the Aldi one on special for 139 (usually 199) and it's great. Best used after picking up everything off the floor and turning up chairs etc. In a smaller unit you don't need to spend more, in a bugger house you might want some of the more advanced features. Also best to set it when you leave the house

I had one.Does the job just fine.but most of the time I come back home found it stuck on the carpet or some cable.Noisier than my Dysondc45.Not picking up some very fine dust. The brush turn in too a mess of hair every 2nd time running and hate to clean it so often. So It now collecting dust under the bench leaving the job for my daily dyson ;).Pretty ok for the price. but dont expect too much, guys.

    • Thanks for this post.

Could you speculate how well it'd pickup cat litter? My cat likes to spread small amounts of it around after doing her business…

      • +1

It will be fine picking up cat liter. The only thing it seems leaving behind is some very fine dust.If you or your partner spend more time at home than outside I suggest you buy something else coz it noise level is annoying but it s just my 2cents anyway. Other than that it great entry level cleaning robot.

I've had my Samsung robot vacuum cleaner for about 3 years now, two different houses.

It gets stuck on slight rises in the floor

It gets stuck under furniture it can't fit under

It gets stuck on central heating vents

    It falls down stairs

My cats wont sit on it

It doesn't replace my conventional Dyson vac

I haven't used it in a few months.

    • +13

      +1 for the review.

I considered signing up a new OzB account so I can give you an additional +1 for the "My cats won't sit on it" comment, but I was too lazy.

    • +1

      Amen.

I've got a navibot s which had a $1200 rrp. It's got an upwards facing camera that it uses to map the room.

      But …

It gets caught on the stools. Can't navigate between table legs. Rams door stops at full speed. Gets stuck under furniture. If there's a cable anywhere on the floor - it will eat it.

It picks up dog hair well enough, but the brushes need to be cleaned at least every second time it gets used.

Also remember that they're really robotic carpet sweepers, not vacuums.

  • Does anyone know how this samsung robot vacuum compared with roomba 780? thinking of replacing my roomba with this one if it's better. Can't find any review.

    • +1

The roomba was recently on sale for $500, which was considered a good price. So I'd assume this cheaper vacuum is not an upgrade even though there's a lot more considerations than the price of course.

      • I will keep my roomba 780 and seem to be more superior than this one.

  • +1

The new Dyson Eye robot is just around the corner (mid-2016) but it'll be in a totally different price bracket I reckon

    • totally different bracket for sure….. A zero on to this price!

  • +1

just used it for the first time. got a little stuck over a step but otherwise fantastic. Quite comprehensive as it snakes over the carpet/furniture

Great value at $300. Complaints so far would be the noise lvl and it catches on cables.

  • +1

Picked one up today, works well however got stuck half under a table and scratched up the top. Vacuum works very well picked up alot of pet hair, was impressed. Good value for money!

  • Landfill within 3 years.

  • $60 more than what China is offering. I don't need it but I really want it.

    • are there any worthy chinese ones yet?

  • +1

Robot vacuums aren't good if you've got a puppy that isn't toilet trained. Heard of an instance where the puppy owner went to work, puppy did it's business on the carpet, robot vacuum picked up the business and smeared it throughout the house, hallways, dining room, etc.

    • Just like a kid would.

    • You probably wouldn't want your robot vacuum to clean such thing. Otherwise, it's useful and save a lot of time.

Go to work and leave puppy locked inside, come home to ***t-stained house- Karma

Stick on an iPod and you have DJ ROOMBA!

  • We have two shepherds that sh(r)ed and track heaps of dirt from the garden. The LG version (~2012) does a fantastic job, but you have to empty it daily and clean the brushes and wheels every weekend. There were plenty of online tests that showed the LG doing a ~90% job vs the roomba\samsung at ~75%. Maybe the newer Samsungs are better (they should!), but you'll need to hunt down reviews\tests.

  • The website seems to have an error loading the page

  • Is this a superseded model? Can't see it on the Samsung web site.

Link either doesn't work or the item has been removed from the listings, can anyone confirm?

    • Same for me :(

  • Link not working.

    • Product is gone from the list.
      Ozbargained?

      • yeh must be out of stock.

  • My mum has a labrador that sheds everywhere and it would be nice to have something that did some light cleaning every day to help out and keep the place looking better.

Maybe treat the problem, perhaps the dog has an underlying condition.
