Fitbit Surge for $174.50 (Was $209.40) @ Dick Smith (Midland Gate, WA)

100

Quite a bit of stock left in DSE at Midland Gate, WA..

Question for those of you who already own one - is it worth getting one, especially at this price?

EDIT - Thanks to karlgr90, looks like the new round of price cuts from Dick Smith has brought the price down further…edited the title to reflect new price…

      One for each wrist?

      • +2

Double the stats = fully fit.

      • They go on your wrist?

        • only because you can't wrap them around your heart

        • +3

You can put it on your ankle and get that home detention look

  • Get it. Its awesome and i think its better than a lot out there on the market.

    nope.

unless somehow you have use for the GPS functionality which according to the fitbit app, doesn't show you anything anyway. notifications can only be set to one app at once (choose from text/whatsapp) and even then notifications are moody (you have 4 notifications. here's only the {random number} one) and if you use it as a normal watch anyway it'll last the same as a moto 360 v2 in battery life.

you're really better off buying any android/apple smartwatch where GPS is handled by your phone which you carry around anyway. and be able to properly use your "smartwatch" with other apps/customisations. (you can't even change the watch bands on this fitbit)

It's a fitness watch, the GPS is good if you are running as it tracks the distance and maps it in the app. If you want to read notifications / control music then this watch is not good for those.

  • wait till tomorrow and the next round of price drops

  • I'm really waiting for a watch that has the fitness crap, internal GPS and storage for music that i can connect to Bluetooth headphones.

I'm tempted to get this but i already have the fitbit HR..don't need a pointless OB impulse buy. ..do i?

    • I was close to getting one of these, but I think I will try a Garmin VivoActive HR (Available later this month)
Seems to have all the things I want for fitness, not sure about the music function. However battery life takes a massive hit if you turn on GPS.

    • So The Motorola 360 Sport or Sony Smartwatch 3 meet your requirements

      • Interesting! ! Thanks for that. Will check em out.

  • The newer fitbit watches coming out look nicer than this

  • FWIW - I got one at Xmas at a similar price and I think it's awesome.
It's a 'horses for courses' decision but it ticks all my boxes - tracks running and cycling when you may not need/want to carry your phone and I find it very comfortable.
Of course it's not great as a smart watch for receiving messages and controlling messages but is that what you want it for? At full price maybe that's an issue but at around $200 it's a bargain.

    • I keep reading reviews that question the accuracy of the HR monitoring, especially during a workout..what is your experience with it, stdanjo?

      • Hi - not compared it against any other HR tracker but it at least shows trends. I was more wanting to log rides and runs and it seems pretty accurate for that (this is still really entry level for this - you could spend a fortune getting more and more accurate but for the non-pro I think it's great) but all the other info is useful too.

  • Very good price

  • Someone at work said that Fitbit now links with flybuys for consumer data mining. If this is true then those ozbers with this and a full suite of credit reward programs had better be careful going for insurance as their premium may be sky high for being both sedentary online shopaholics with bad credit history and an ocd condition around collecting eneloops. Definitely an insurance risk!

    • I don' know if this is true but I had linked it to Flybuys since December. A bonus is that you can get 10 points a day if you do 10,000 steps but you can only get 10 points a day but you have to get 10,000 steps as well (10,000 steps = 10 points but 20,000 steps = 10 points still). But its better than nothing.

      • Ok. Each to their own I guess. I find it creepy. Also, if you are giving them all that info and they determine you are unhealthy I'm pretty sure they on sell that stuff to insurance companies. If you ever have kids and want life insurance those 10 points = 10c might not be such a bargain when they whack an extra few hundred dollars on you premium because they reckon you have a high chance of heart attack. Just sayin. Make sure you read the fine print.

If this price is correct, it looks like they've already been further reduced today…

  • Anyone been to the sydney cbd store recently? Is there anything left worth a check?

    • I went yesterday eve. Only FitBit they had was Fitbit one. No Fitbit Surge :)

      Lots of Dick Smith TVs.

      • Thanks. Think I'll try to check it out in case there's anything good.

Interestingly the website just got cleared out. Nothing on it!

        • That is interesting.
