FREE UNSW Online Course - Through Engineers' Eyes

450

Free is free, right? Free University Courses always seem to go down well here so here's another one.

In this free online course you will learn the techniques of engineering mechanics, use them to interpret experiments and apply them to design. - See more at: https://www.engineering.unsw.edu.au/mechanical-engineering/a…

Duration: 7 weeks, 4 hours per week

Starts April 18th.

    through Engineers' Eyes

    Sounds painful…

    • it's plural :)

        To be even more accurate, a plural possessive noun

        You mean like "Through an engineers' eyes"?

        • +12

          Through an engineer's eyes (for 1 engineer)

          or

          Through engineers' eyes (for 2 or more engineers)

        • @m9: Rekt.

  • Currently studying Engineering at USYD. Would like to see what entry level type stuff this is.

    • What discipline?

          There is more to engineering than just mechanical…

          @ATangk:

          O rly?

        • +3

          I think it's safe to say you know nothing about engineering.

          What do you call building an integrated circuit and analog circuits?

          What do you call building synthetic membranes for fluid separation?

          WHat about building a skyscraper?

          How about building a pacemaker?

          How about building software architecture and operating systems?

          Mechanical engineering covers all of that.

          @KaptnKaos: You need to go back to school

          @leon:

          I've done mechanical engineering at a major Victorian university and I can confirm that it includes the 3 elements that I highlighted in my previous post. Go look up their course outline yourself if you don't believe me.

          @KaptnKaos:

          Okay genius. Where do you work now and how long ago since you graduated? I just want to see how far the bs extends.

          When a company like Ausgrid or Schneider hires you as an electrical engineer, then you can talk. You probably did a 1st year electronics course and think you're top dog.

          Mechanical engineers don't do much chemical engineering, so pipe down.

          @cDNA:

          All I'm going to say is that check the course outline of major Victorian universities offering mechanical engineering now and make up your mind yourself.

          @KaptnKaos:

          As an engineer with 10+ years of experience, I know you're just full of yourself and either a spring chicken out of uni or a 50 year old wannabe engineer. I'm gonna go with kid who has no idea what he is talking about.
          .
          Why don't you link it to me? All those points I mentioned are taught at the senior level for each engineering discipline. Are you telling me you have done 3rd and 4th year electrical, chemical and civil engineering?

          What about actual mechanical engineering? You obviously don't have time for fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, materials, manufacturing and mechanical design.

        • @KaptnKaos:
          Like aeronautical

          @ATangk: First, how's your coffee engineering skills?

        • +1

          @StewBalls:
          Never took any barista courses, but I can still make a decent cup. But the machine I have doesn't have enough steam, so I can either make it foamy or hot, but not both. :(

        • Engineering is for knuckle-draggers, it's all just applied mathematics. (I couldn't help myself)

        • @ATangk: Here's what happens if you make your mentor a foamy latte: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHKjpnk5dpc

        • @StewBalls:
          Im not too much of a coffee drinker, so ill take a capp (love the foam). But if you want a latte, thats easy enough to do.

        • @tanabe88gg:

          Except it isn't. Lots of troglodytes on ozbargain. I guess that is what is expected from peasants.

          Just because you can do applied mathematics, doesn't mean you will be a good engineer. Most engineers don't sit down and solve equations all day.

        • @cDNA:
          Maths plus arts degree?

        • @tanabe88gg:

          What??

          You don't know anything about engineering.

        • @cDNA:
          my first comment was a meme. my second was me being facetious.
