Small Device for Offline Spotify ?

What is the smallest device that can be used for listening to Spotify playlists in offline mode?

Basically I want an iPod Shuffle that runs the Spotify app, but of course that doesn't exist.

But maybe someone has made some sort of tiny MP3 player running Android?

    • Ha, I knew it was a good idea… sounds perfect, but Nov 16 delivery (IF they hit their deadlines) is a bit of a hitch.

  • +1

Just borrow/beg/steal someone's (or your) old, outdated handset.
Put it in Aeroplane mode to disable the Mobile Network components, turn on WiFi when you need to download/update playlists.
Battery will last a few days on standby.

  • Define tiny?

A 4th Gen iPod touch off eBay should do the job??

    • Tiny is "can be clipped on to running kit" without needing pocket, pouch or armband.

IPod Shuffle is 12g while iPod Touch is 88g so say up to 25g?

The Kickstarter thing is about 20g.

But we have some old iPod Touches lying around so I'll try those out..

      • The only thing in that weight range might be a Chinese Smartwatch that is running full Android that also has a microSD slot.
        Something like this.

        • Smart watches seem to be overkill (and over-budget) for my modest requirements…

I'm surprised that these don't exist - Sony make a 50g Walkman with a tiny screen for about $100, and a "hi-res" 65g Walkman with a bigger screen at $280 and then a bunch more running up to $1600, including several running Android. But not the small ones.

        • @GordonR:
Your "modest" requirements call for SoC capable of running android, screen, storage and battery all in a tiny package.

Smartwatch seems to tick the list of requirements.
How do you run spotify without the screen? You need a third party (unsupported) app for the Kickstarter linked above.

There's plenty of decent smartwatches around the $100 mark… the kicker will be whether they have microSD or sufficient internal memory.
The Kickstarter only has 4Gb by the looks, so most smartwatches should meet or exceed that.

  • I know this thread is quite old now, but I thought I'll add this solution.

Looks like the pebble core has this covered.

    • Thanks… Sounds like what I want is On The Way, but not ready yet… At least Pebble have a record of delivery of their KickStarter projects…

  • Hey,When refer to Offline Spotify Devices, I suggest you TuneFab Spotify Music Converter for listening Spotify without any internet connection.
