One of my favourite FF games. I think in parts I liked it more than 7 and 8, but it's definitely up there overall. Severely underrated characters and story. (Based on finishing it when it launched 16 years ago)

Great game. My second favourite after FF VII.

    • Aw c'mon, really? What about FF VI!? Now THAT is what I call RPG.

      Well, that and Chrono Trigger.

      • I never played FF VI so I can't give a judgment on it. I have been hearing good things about it though.
May pick it up on Steam in future.

    • VI is the best.

Anyone who says otherwise is a scrub. :P

Woohoo what a year - FFIX, FFXV, then Kingdom Hearts 3 for added measure

    • Don't get your hopes up for KH3. We've all been waiting too long for that one.

    • Damn :(

  • So i clicked on the above link and read "Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, fall in with Zidane and set out on an incredible journey."

Did they change the story line when I wasn't looking?

    • Seems quite accurate?

      • Not quite about princess AND Steiner both falling in love with zidane :P

"Falling in with…" (as in "falling in with the wrong crowd") is not the same thing as "falling in love with…"

        • @Mikeypants: You are right I misread that in a hurry.

        • @Letrico:
take a second and slow down.
          smell the roses.
you are living in too much of a rush all of the time.
          always in a hurry.

  • i remember playing this game as a kid and getting stuck around the third disc in some building and gave up. Was an awesome game though. I like how each character represents a class. From what I can remember from about 15 years ago you get: Thief, Warrior/Tank, Red and blue mage, black mage, white mage / summoner, monk and dragoon.

    • LOL, same here - did you get stuck after princess Rinoa (if i remember the name right) gets poisoned or something? I remember getting stuck in some ruins or building, or for some reason i put down the game. When i finalyl come back now I have nfi how to battle and i get butchered by any common monster that comes by… funny becuase the same setup i would have been fine had i not put down the game. GUess it proved to me there really is strategy in knowing your spells/characters abilities that you don't realise when you're playing non stop.

Tossing up whether to buy this on the pc …. or just pick up the old playstation 1 and play it the original way haha.

Are the story and gamplay exactly the same, albeit with better graphics on computer?? and how intensive is this? WIll it run on my old 2012 laptop - gt540 2gb graphics card, only 8gb ram and the first gen of i7 processors…

  • this remake reminds me of the FFX remastered. Never finished ff9 due to putting it down, coming back and getting smashed by common monsters - lost my ability to play the game haha, so i never finished past the third disc (i think after the princess got poisoned and you were searching ruins for a cure).

Wonder if they'll remaster this onto ps4, not sure if i should buy this pc version as the console 'play' of a final fantasy game reminds me of the old ff7 times, not sure if a keyboard and mouse will feel the same? I mean having never played a FF rpg on the PC how do you move? Click and it moves there ? or arrow numpad on the keyboard?

On another note have no idea where to find the ffx remastered on ps4, doesn't seem to be sold in shops! although tempted to pull out the ps2 and just play the original there (got FFX but never played).

    • FFIX PC is not a remake, its a very slight upgrade in character textures & text that only has partial controller support - its nowhere near being a remaster unfortunately

      • thanks. guess i may stick to playing it on the ps1 then :D

        • Sound/music is also compressed and inferior to the PSOne version. FMVs look great but upscaled backgrounds clash with the character textures

So yeah the only good benefit is the FMVs

  • Love this game! love VIII the most though, but did love IX a lot.

    Will be getting this.
