Lost Mobile while interstate

So this afternoon I managed to drop my S7 (expensive drop) while jogging in QLD (hoilidaying), couldnt find it. I have travel insurance but not sure if that will be covered. Anyway the bigger concern is I am expecting a very important phone call on Monday or Tuesday but i guess my provider Live Connected won't be able to send me the replacement sim by then especially as I am away from home.

What are my options?

  1. Should i port out to Vodafone prepaid (was already thinking of porting out of LC and have already scored $1 sim starter packs from Coles Express last month) without notifying LiveConnected?
  2. Should I inform Live Connected about lost phone and then start the port out process (hoping LC will not interfere with port out as my phone is lost)?

Any other options please?

In any case i am planning to report it to police (in case my travel insurance covers). Also is it mandatory to inform the mobile service provider about the lost phone??

Thanks in advance.

Buy a $20 prepaid handset, have LC forward all calls to that number until you have sorted out a new SIM.

Best option would be to port out to another provider immediately and your new SIM should be available for receiving calls by either tonight or Monday morning.

Notify your new provider of the misplaced phone and it will be blocked from all Australian mobile networks.

    • So i shouldn't notify LC about lost phone as they may interfere with port out request?

Yes. Inadvertently or not, notifying LC might delay your port request.

Given that blocking your phone with one provider blocks it on all Australian networks, it won't hurt to let the port happen first, wait to receive your important call and then block the handset by contacting your new provider.

Reason being, some providers would understandably block SIM cards and handsets in one go, and you wouldn't want that before your important call comes through.

    1. get prepaid
    2. Call live and get them to redirect number to prepaid number so you can get your important booty call "you use to call me on your cell phone…"
