Dell Inspiron I7559-763BLK $799USD for Bargain Beast of a Gaming Laptop

Considering purchasing a "gaming laptop" at the moment and I'm looking at my various options and I found this machine.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYYDMQ?psc=1&redirect=t…

Screen Size 15.6 inches IPS
Max Screen Resolution 1920x1080 pixels

Processor 2.3 GHz Core i5 6300HQ
RAM 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM

Graphics Coprocessor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5
Graphics Card Ram Size 4000 MB

Hard Drive 256 GB SSD

I'm struggling to find anything secondhand that gets close to this as far as game performance - particuarly IPS display seems "unheard of" at this price/performance level. Check out Youtube for GTA V settings and FPS, it's impressive :)

At least that's what I think - would love to hear feedback as usual! Thoughts?

    Zero warranty.

    • True.

    • Zero warranty.

To be honest warranty is something I usually don't consider with a lot of products. If it's something that can be had for a trivial amount on top of what I'm paying elsewhere without it then it may be a factor.

I can't see the point of paying a lot of additional money to in effect cover myself for something that's unlikely to happen. I'm not coming out ahead by paying more for the same item and having a warranty than if I pay for a full replacement in the likelihood that I require the warranty because items don't fail that much.

If you see what I mean.

  • Special Shipping Information: Due to federal and international regulations, this product can only be shipped within the continental United States.

What's the deal with this guys? Can laptops be sent as normal parcals or is there regulations?

  • Cant send to Australia…. No deal…

Dell Outlet store in Oz had a heap(well 6-12) of these recently for a bit under $1000 (these were i7-6700HQ though, not i5). They have new warranty and in Aust so maybe keep looking there for a few weeks and see if more come in.

    • Did you check that the display had IPS? There seems to be a lot of similar spec i7 / 1TB 5400 hybrid that include the GTX960M 4GB DDR5 but are not SSD or IPS.

I think not having an SSD system disk with the CPU this thing has is a bad idea even before you start playing games. I'm guessing you can add your own SSD as there's an empty optical drive bay listed on the original Amazon item but check obviously.

      • I am sure someone here or at whirlpool said they are ips.

maybe it was a hybrid drive - but swapping would be no problem I am sure.

  • OK so on Dell.com (.US site) you can get it down to 699USD delivered to USA address although it's the 1TB hybrid drive version to which you would have to add an SSD which I haven't priced.

You can then, so I am told, transfer your official Dell warranty from USA to here after purchase.

    • Manufacturer refurbished condition incl. "minor" cosmetic damage $929AUD delivered, 1 only:

Note: no SSD (includes 1TB hybrid HDD), does not include OS.

Haven't bought from Dell Outlet before but I notice you have to "chat" to someone tp purchase so you may be able to swap the HDD for SSD at this point.

      • That looks ideal if that's what you're after. Very doubtful you can get them to swap the HDD for SSD. I don't think outlet machines are customizable. But the HDD in dell machines are super easy to swap out on your own.
It does come with an OS (Win10) just no OS media (ie disk).
Get in pretty quick though if you want it. These outlet machines don't last long if they're a good deal.

        • Ah thanks for pointing out that OS related mistake.

Just looking at it I think the "regulatory" reasons that Amazon cannot ship this device seems to be related to the SSD at that price point cos no one else has the SSD … presumably there's some illegal price collusion agreement between Dell and Amazon :p

eBay doesn't seem to have a problem shipping the SSD model overseas from USA, I call BS.
