How do you get your catalogue so early tightarse? I'm lucky if I get mine a couple of days after the sale starts!

People who are in the job (or associated with someone in the job) of delivering catalogues to letterboxes, would understandably receive the catalogues earlier than everybody else.

The controversial thing is that there would likely be some agreement signed by these catalogue custodians to not disclose those contents in advance, but it still happens. It's also this form of 'leaking' which led to Woolworths applying the 5pm Monday restriction on OzBargain posts for the coming week's specials.

      • And I'm surprised that Coles haven't imposed it too. Not complaining though :)

        • It probably doesn't bother Coles as much as it perhaps bothers WW. But nonetheless, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Coles imposes a similar restriction here on OzBargain.

        • @KaptnKaos:

You'd think that they would only be too happy to have people talking about their specials, good publicity, etc. Why would they see it as a downside?

        • +7

          @Mike Echo:
You're thinking of it too narrow mindedly.

If you know that an item you want is gonna be half price next week, chances are you'd hold off buying it as opposed to buying it now.

There's a fine line between "good publicity", people being happy about cheap prices and a business just being a business.

          @illumination:

Good point. I do that myself (hold off until something is on special) but it didn't even dawn on me. Duh.

        • @Mike Echo: Yep as do I.

So what I like to do is if the item is say 30% off at Woolies, you know it's not gonna be 50% off in the next specials cycle, but it's possible that Coles will have it 50% off. So I'll buy it from Woolies at 30% off, hold onto it and if Coles has it at 50% next cycle, I'll refund it back to Woolies and buy it from Coles ;)

And if Coles doesn't have it on special? I'll just accept a 30% off!

@illumination: it's because lots of people come into the stores and complain the price is wrong because they thought the catalogue was already active.

        • @GameChanger: That makes some sense too. But that could now still happen on Monday after 5pm or the whole of Tuesday. In fact, I'm sure it still happens, despite all the red text that says "prices only active from Wednesday".

Makes me wonder why my local person waits so many days before delivering it, even in fine weather ;-)

    • +2

I'm lucky if I get a catalogue at all, every time the person delivering junk mail in my area just skips my mailbox, my neighbours get it, but I get skipped for no reason.

  • LOL, you guys are unbelievable. You really don't know?

  • Can someone in the know please explain:

Promotional prices not available at Coles Raine Square and Coles Seaview. Some promotional prices may not be available at coles.com.au or Coles Cockburn Gateway. Refer to catalogue for full terms and conditions.

Why have Coles introduced this at Cockburn? (a suburban store)

    • Not all specials are available at all stores. It's a perfectly normal disclaimer that you'd find in certain catalogues.

That could be the case because of the listed stores' sizes, turnovers, geographical locations, local laws, track record, etc.

      • It's a perfectly normal disclaimer that you'd find in certain catalogues.

I have never seen this for any metro area suburban store of any supermarket in WA.

They have spent $3.2M doing it up
        http://www.hodgecollardpreston.com/project/coles-cockburn-ga…

incorporating the latest Coles Standard within an existing store

So does that mean everytime they refurbish a store to their new standard they take the specials away?

This was an old clapped out IGA that they purchased and prior to the refurb it had hardly any customers or range compaired to the Woolworths in the same centre.

My point is it is not a special area. It is a low/middle class suburban area and the Woolworths (large size) in the centre does not have any special rules.

As a customer and and OzB member I think it is poor form but obviously they think they can get away with it for the general public.

        • Tell Coles. They want the customer feedback https://www.coles.com.au/customer-service

        • Is it a big store?
Maybe they don't have the capacity to stock all the catalogue specials…
Theres a small Coles in South Perth with a limited range of food.

        • @mmd:

Nope they expanded it. It is huge.

The South Perth one would still offer the special if the product is stocked?

  • Thanks TA!

Is that the twin pack Tim Tams?
    Winning.

    • The reject shop actually has the single row packs for just $1. So you can get two of them for $2. The flavored ones though, not the original Tim tams.

  • Goddamit when are the Telstra Prepaid specials comin' back …

    • +4

You know what, I think the Telstra kits may be on sale for $10. I remember seeing them but no idea why I didn't include them. I'm out right now but I'll confirm and update the post later tonight when I take a look at the catalogue again (unless I was dreaming). Thanks for the memory jolt :)

    • +3

Ok, here's the $10 kit.. Are these new? I thought the only starter kits were the $30 ones.

      • +1

Wtf is that… Yep I think they're new.
        They're not the $10 $30 kits we're after! :(

Noooo hope it's not the end!!

      • How many days is that one?

  • Ripper tune boris

  • The optus alcotel phone is on sale this week @ 34.50 as well (wasnt advertised in the catalog)

  • Can someone please explain how Potato chips per kg can be on par with Cadbury Chocolate per kg?? Absolutely baffling.

    • No, but perhaps if you were a little more clear in just what you want explained, someone could help.

      • For Example,

        Kettle chips 185gms $4.55, $24.59/kg
        Cadbury 200gm Dairy Milk $5.49, $27.45/kg

        Using regular prices for examples.

How can potato chips do so expensive compared to chocolate?

        Thanks!

        • +1

Because items do not follow some bizaare arbitary pricing scheme where totally unrelated items affect each others price?

        • +1

          @Diji1:

It's potatoes. Made in Australia. Chocolate would have to be far more complicated.

        • Depends on how the want to position the product, what profit they want to make, what they are will to cover for specials and how much they think customers are willing to pay. Petrol can be cheaper than bottled water too!

        • 'cos beer

  • Ta TA!

  • Nice one again TA

  • The 88c Twisties (and other varieties) are killing me. (Thankfully they're only 100g packs!)

  • wtf Potato Waffles?

    • wtf Potato Waffles

Bought some today (still same price @coles)

Not bad at all (would not bother full price tho)
