Looking for a cheap wireless multifunction printer

Hi there,

I am looking for a cheap printer to buy.

It should have Wi-Fi and should be able to scan documents as well. I do not require high quality printouts (won't be used for photo printing) or scans (as long as the text is clear, that is good enough).

Any recommendations?

Cheers.

  • laser = cheap to run, higher initial cost

ink = lower initial cost, more expensive to run especially infrequent use.

    • @supnigs
Are you saying InkJet is more expensive to run if used "infrequently"? How come?

Besides, a multifunction laser printer will be quite expensive. $150+ right?

      • What is your Budget?

        • As cheap as can be. Basically the cheapest one that I get that fulfills the above criteria.

I know dry quick in cartridges and don't keep long. Also ink printers self clean a lot especially when powering up and down. The self cleaning wastes ink.

      • yes, if you want colour.

        • Colour isn't essential tbh.

  • I got one of the (now discontinued) HP Envy 4500 all-in-one things with wireless, scanning etc for $38, and it has exceeded my expectations. It gets regular use as my fiancee is a tafe lecturer, and while it does get through the ink a bit, it hasnt failed yet (6 months).

Looks like the replacement is the 4504 at $58 at officeworks.

  • How often will you be scanning? That's really the part that will prevent you from just buying a $40-$50 laser printer

And if it's infrequent use, I'd also suggest a laser printer :)

I have been through the cycle of multiple cheap inkjet printers. They burn through ink and end up costing a fortune in consumables. For some reason all the models I have tried seem to jam paper and have endless error messages. I finally got sick of this cycle and gave a laser printer a go. Sure it costs more up front, but it works so much better. The toner lasts much much longer than ink cartridges. My laser printer has never had a paper jam, ever. I have the Brother HL-L2380DW, $199 from Officeworks.

  • Consider if you want something like Google cloud printing. Not all Wi-Fi printers do this.

  • We have a brother all in one 552.
Its wireless, scans photocopies prints all fine.
Wife prints from her phone and tablet easily with the brother app.
The printer was about $60 on sale 6 months ago.
The cartridges have chips in them but you can buy compatibles easy and cheap still.

Dad just got an epson 235. similar as brother printer in use. He got it at Office works $58, they also had a HP and Canon for a little cheaper, all multifunction and wireless.

  • Watch out for cheap Lasers. The initial cardridges are usually low yield. I have a printer that cost me $400 to buy, but the replacement cartridges (Colour printer) cost me about a grand. Most manufacturers do this. Having said this, I would go laser over inkjet every time.

  • Not sure if you have already picked up a printer as yet nushydude but I just purchased the following printer from Woolworths which should suit your needs.

    Canon PIXMA MG2965

    Wireless Printing
    Copy and Scan (600 x 1200 dpi)
Pixma Cloud Link (Google, drop box etc.)

Purchased at Woolworths Seaford Meadows, SA (not sure if it's store specific)

    Normally $79.00.
    Now 50% off so $39.50.

Might be worth posting as a deal by someone.
