Rewards for Posting Deals?

Hello,

It just hit me on the head so I should bring it up

There should be a rewards system for OzBargain

Last post in the forums I said that more shirts should be handed out, but how about a Rewards System instead of Competitions?

I believe it should be as follows

500 posts with 100 votes or higher = 1 T-shirt

1000 posts with 100 votes or higher = 2 T-shirts

Vote and discuss!

Poll Options

  • 12
    Yes
  • 195
    No
  • 4
Let's just keep it for competitions
  • 9
Leave it to the mods to decide

I second that, and jv should pay ;)

Dear Scotty, for crying out loud just send Bearosaurus a damn shirt. Love the rest of OzBargain

    • +24

      No, send bikies.

      • maybe we should have a poll to decide.

        • -1

we already have one in this post. May be it was added after you commented?

    • +46

I was going to send him one, until I saw this…

      500 posts with 100 votes or higher = 1 T-shirt

Sorry mate, you still got more work to do!!!

    • +3

      these post have become unbearable

    • Bear, wait for the next sportsdirect tshirt sale ;)

  • +27

So you wish people to spam and post bs deals to earn a fast shirt… Just leave it the way the system is, if we need to reward you to contribute id personaly rather you didnt…

It should be about helping others while they help you, not rewards.

  • -6

I don't know about rewards but I think some of the affiliate dollars should be shared with the deal poster.

  • +3

    no

    • +1

      100 votes or higher

He better post that Wii remote deal if he wants a t-shirt?

  • I had your kind of personality on wikiHow and they blocked me, I still can't understand why they couldn't give me one #$%^&^% t-shirt!!!!!!! An OzBargain one would be even better though.

  • +2

there would be about 5 people with all the shirts and you'd probably still have no shirt lol

and there will be a new wave of whining about who's hogging all the shirts in addition to referal and cash back arguments

Think might be time to create another roast thread.

I really want to get involved this time.

  • If I'm not mistaken members of the month get some kind of reward?

    • Yes.

There is also a (monetary) reward at the end of the year just for being a good contributor to the site. It does not neccessarily mean you have to post a lot of good deals (but it helps, because EC has won that award twice).

      • I thought there was a monetary reward for being member of the month too? Or is it something else?

Unrelated. Have you always been a power user?

        • Yes, it's either gift cards or Paypal credit x $100

And yes, I was Power User since the day the feature was added to OZbargain.

        • @scrimshaw: Really tempting to go for member of the month now. Too bad I don't have the time to post deals all day long.

        • +1

          @scrimshaw:

Does this help with the ladies? /serious question

        • @Jar Jar Binks:

jar jar binks. you will never grow fat

        • @Gimli:

          ok

Maybe a reward for members with over 1000 posts or 10000 comments or 400 competitions or 200 forum posts.

    Just saying

    • +5

Again, just promotes spamming, and there's enough of that already :/

      • yeah i know.
        Tell me about it.

  • +3

    OP's previous post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/248955

What T-shirt-related post are you going to make tomorrow, OP?

  • +3

I desire a T-shirt declaring my status as OzBargain Naysayer. I was inordinately pleased to learn I qualified as I doubted I had negged even 12 deals. So now I feel like an authentic bona fide Geezer. Like that time I won the Nobel Prize for Baggy Trouseredness before the FBI hushed it up. I shall wear it between modelling assignments, obviously.

The voting system is a joke though.
I think Scotty should give them at his discretion.

Some comments are given -ve votes for no intelligent reason while any sort of sexual innuendo is seemingly given 15+ ones.
    Quality over quantity.
    Life is unfair.
I want a tshirt but have accepted I will never get one.

    • I'm wearing one right now. I would give you the shirt off my back but that doesn't seem very ozbargainly

    • +3

The tshirt has too much power, and probably a bad thing for a single girl to wear - you'll get too tired with all the guys throwing themselves at you!

      • Hahaha.

Googling it now. There was an ozbargain photo competition!

        • There's been various competitions, not just 1 :)

        • @Spackbace:

          Pardon my ignorance!

        • +1

          @Beethoven:

I'll quote that the next time you stuff up :P

        • @Spackbace: Would you come to a Perth meet up?

        • +1
        • -1

          @Spackbace: Why not?

        • +2

          @GameChanger:

          Just no.

        • +1

@Spackbace: What if GC wasn't invited, would you come?

        • @Jar Jar Binks: we all know you wouldn't turn up as your whole ozbargain posts are fabricated.

        • @Spackbace: I think you and GC should meet up to sort your beefs lol, u don't seem to like each other much !

        • @Forrest Gump: I have no problems meeting up with people from here, as I got nothing to hide.

Its far easier to say things online, but come crunch time you tell the true character of a person.

    • Welcome to reddit!

  • Option 4 - how many moderators are there?

    • +3

6 including scotty, but not including Shaw who is listed as a mod here but 99% of his work is on our NZ site.

      • I didn't know a a a is a mod. He/She is very quiet…

        • +23

It's the quiet ones you should be worried about ;)

  • +2

You share deals to help others find bargains, and others do the same for you. That's your reward.

    • +1

Exactly what I was thinking. Why would there be any need for an incentive?

The bargains ARE the rewards :)

  • oops clicked yes instead of no.

  • There are t-shirts?

    • +2

Yes, they say Please beat me up! ;)

      • +1

we probably should put a disclaimer - "protected by bikies"
ozb should be getting a bulk discount by now.

  • I thought we did this for self satisfaction

    • +1

shirts? I thought the standard was to use socks for self satisfying?

  • seriously for 1T-shirt, 500 post & 100 votes. That's a lot of work and not much reward.

  • +1

We get rewards. I publish deals if I am the first to see them, and get to see the deals others publish. I've saved enough to buy a fair few t-shirts, and tho an "Ozbargain" shirt would be something to wear with pride, I'd feel guilty about the junior staff sent scuttling to hide things if I walked into a store wearing one…

  • How about listing a bargain on ozbargain t-shirts

  • I wish there was an option to revote (or even just to remove my vote). Was on my phone and accidentally pressed the wrong one.

Anyway I don't think there is really a need for a physical reward. Maybe something like forum badges or something if people really want some kind of reward/acknowledgement, but even then…

    • You can revoke your vote at any time. On a comment click the 'votes' link underneath it, on a deal click the vote tab at the top. You then just need to click the red - sign to remove/revoke the vote.

You can also change your vote but it has to be done immediately (if more than a minute passes or you refresh, you'll only be able to revoke), for those occasions where you accidentally click negative instead of positive you can change the vote immediately.

      • I was talking about voting in the poll. I don't see any of those options for a poll.

        • Ah sorry I misunderstood.

I've edited the poll to allow changing votes so you should be able to now, just click on the option you want and it will change the vote.

        • @hamza23:

Can we have bikies option added to poll

        • @gimli:

that would make this poll a joke…

  • I don't know about t-shirts and poster rewards, but, what if Ozbargain offered a donation box for say a preferred charity a few times a year. You would have the option of posting a donation, Im not charity crazy but considering I save so much on deals through the site, Id happily throw 5 bucks here and there to a charity that ozbargain was endorsing, could be a nice new facet to the community? Maybe this deserves its own discussion?

    (Edit-spelling)

    • +2

Scotty already makes a donation twice a year to member's charity of choice. The Amex shop small promo has also seem members directing donations to leverage that saving.

      • this. i love seeing scotty donate thousands at the end of year to a charity that we all vote for.

this year he should spent those thousands on OzB tshirts and give one to everyone with a 100+ vote post!

      • oh shoot! I forgot to do that during the last weekend shop small! :( I only used my Amex 2x out of a possible 6. :/

  • This is just a stupid idea, people already bickering about people spamming deals.
We had the whole fiasco with complaints about posting single deals from the big supermarket special deals to highlight them.

This 'incentive' would just exuberate the problem.

  • +1

Why should you be rewarded for being a tight arse and letting other tight arses know that a tight arse deal is on so they can jump on it and tight arse the hell our of it lmao.

    • Nicely put.. although all I saw was tight arse here tight arse there, I think I understand and agree ;)

  • And then we can pay commissions and then all the "PAID PRODUCT REVIEWS" lies and deceit can continue.
