Nikon AF-S 70-200mm F2.8 G ED VR II | $2260 after $300 Nikon Cashback @ Ted's Cameras eBay

160
CLICK20

Hi all,

This deal is part of the Click20 offer but is so good it deserves it's own post.

Ted's haven't jacked up the price for this lens in their eBay store (yet?) so jump on it if you're in the market for this lens. This lens normally comes on sale 2-3 times a year around $2350-$2500. This is the cheapest price I've seen for AU stock on this lens in the past 18 months. Previous best was ~$2350 late last year with a 15% off eBay coupon + the Nikon cashback.

Lens is priced at $3199.95. Use the eBay discount code "CLICK20" for 20% off and the lens is also eligible for a $300 cashback from Nikon taking the price down to $2259.96.

You can save yourself a further $32 if you use Cashrewards.

Fantastic price for a fantastic lens.

  • Over the years I've owned this lens twice. Each time I sold it, instant regret…

    • Are you going to sell it a third time?

      • Hope not

    • Why did you sell it? Switched brands?

This is the kind of lens you buy once and never sell.

      • I rarely used it. But when I did, it was magical.

First one I sold to finance a 17-55 2.8 - Use this all the time.

second time I sold it to finance a 35mm 1.4 which i use quite often instead.

        But i still miss it

        • +1

i have nt used my 70-200 for ages. the only reason i still keep it is it is simply an amazing lens.

  • How much of a leap forward (if it can be somehow quantified) is this version compared to the 1st version (that I have)?

Sell your old one and upgrade for the difference if you want to. Probably not 100% necessary though depending how much you shoot with it.

      • Thanks. Will have to research on the value of my 1st version. This looks to be the best time to get this lens.

It's my go to lens for event photography, so no it doesn't sit in the cupboard gathering dust due to weight issues :)
But I don't earn money off it, so hence the dilemma.

        • My boss sold his VR 2nd hand for $1700 6 months ago and made the upgrade and he loves it.

        • @Powershopz: That gives me hope. Pity I can't make use of TRS - $2260-$233 = $2027

  • I can understand what phocus did. This is no cheap purchase, even after the discount.

My third time tempted to buy this lens on an ebay sale now and still not sure if I should pull the trigger. Here is why:

    1) This lens is bloody heavy (all 2.8 lens are except Panasonic) and I am a light gear shooter. Neve more that 2kg in my bag. So this will lead to
    2) Low Price/Usage Since its heavy, I can see it sitting in my closet eating dust. While that 2K can be spend better somewhere else.

Most important is 2.8 is not as fast as you would think. Under normal low light, you will be lucky with 1/125 shutter at 1 stop under exposure. Not a bad way but hardly ideal!! I prefer to spend the money on a high ISO body like D500 or A7SII.

    Just my two cent….

  • This lens is amazing. The Stabilisation is exceptional.

  • Also available at Ted's is the FZ1000 for $720. Better than local and grey import prices on a great camera. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Panasonic-Lumix-FZ1000-/121828735…

  • You can't beat this lens for versatility…It's one lens that I would replace without hesitation.
Great in the studio, great for family shoots outdoors and pretty bloody good if your doing sports.

that price for OZ stock is pretty good. i purchased mine from DWI a few years ago for not much less.

    • +1

It's one lens that I would replace without hesitation.

I'm guessing you meant the opposite?

      • +1

Yeah lol… If something to happen to it.

        • Oh lol ^^

    • A big thing to keep in mind is how much Nikon have increased their prices over the past few years due to the falling Aussie dollar. I paid $2250 for my 14-24mm when it first came out about 8 years ago and it's now got a RRP of $2800.

      • I recon Nikon is ok, look at Sony.

        Remember this deal:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176306

Many had said they can sell their A7(s) buy in those day and make a profit. I call Sony day light robbery these days!!

If you actually bothered to read my post and tried it you'd see it is still working and for purchases valid until 30/06/2016.

        • @Powershopz:
'Below are the cashbacks for purchases made 01/06/2016 - 30/06/2016' Where did you find this description? I cannot find it myself in the T&C.
I tried a random input at the first step with date 02/06/2016 and it processed to the next step with 'Congratulations, your purchase is eligible for a $ 300.00 reward'.
I feel confused… If it works I will grab one, coz it is a good deal.
I have removed the neg vote.

They do it every year. I bought my 24-70 same time last year. You can email just to be sure.

Good luck with your purchase. I bought one the day I posted this and my claim went though. It usually takes about 3-4 weeks for the money to go into your bank account.

        • @Powershopz: Thank you! I have grabbed one :)

Where did you find this description? I cannot find it myself in the T&C.

          https://mynikonlife.com.au/cash-back/

          Purchase any of the below NIKKOR AF-S DX 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, AF-S DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II, AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, AF-S 16-35mm f/4G ED VR, AF-S 24-120mm f/4G ED VR, AF-S 35mm f/1.4G, AF-S 58mm f/1.4G, AF-S 70-200mm f/4G ED VR, AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, AF-S 85mm f/1.4G lenses, or Nikon DSLRs, between 1st – 30th June 2016 from an Authorised Australian Nikon Reseller, and redeem a cash back reward on your purchase.

wish they brought back the 35mm f1.8g cashback though :(

        • @CVonC:

It was updated. The cashback was ended the 31 May, but they extended it for another month. Actually, it has been updating all the time. If you open Diamond Camera's website, you will be surprised by seeing: 'Offer Valid Until 01/02/2016 - 31/03/2016'.
          http://www.diamondscamera.com.au/af-s-nikkor-70-200mm-f-2-8g…

Anyway, thanks OP. This is a very good deal.

I guess Nikon 1.8G series might not be eligible for cashback as they are of high Cost-Performance ratio. I love the 85mm 1.8G one which performs excellent on a full frame camera.

        • @RimofLeo:

Yeah that particular cashback has been around all year pretty much.

The 1.8G cash backs were during xmas. Maybe it'll come around after this current one. Here's hoping ^^

  • Regarding the cashback.. In Nikon website which store should I select?
This is bought from Ted-EBay hence asking?
