Scoot Airlines and International Transaction Fee

Hi all,

Not a while ago, I posted this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/250536, sharing my paypal purchasing experience which ended up getting charged 8.8% in credit card fee.

You would think that would be the end of it but like everything, s**t happens in 3 and so this is my second experience with credit card fee this time with Scoot Airlines. I am sure it won't be the end of it.

In short, Scoot Airline charges you AUD$20 per passenger for Credit Card processing fee which is charged at checkout. You will find in your statement afterwards the entry Scoot Pte Ltd with the SG next to it, meaning the payment was processed in Singapore. The travel by the way originated from Melbourne.

This means that I will be expecting another 4.4% from Citibank for the DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion charges - which is the real name for International Transaction Fee). A fare of $1,800 made up of 4 people = AUD$80 for 4 passengers + AUD$79.20 for DCC / International Transaction Fee = $159.20. A whooping 8.84% in credit card fee.

As I said before in this forum, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225896, there is no way knowing where the payment is going to be processed.

I took a screenshot of the payment screen (which I can't post here coz I don't know how) which states nothing about cross-border fee (if you buy from Google for example, it will say cross-border fee will apply) so I thought to myself there may be a misleading conduct case here.

Anyway, I hope this will help others before making purchasing decision with Scoot.

Regards

Zz

  • Thanks for sharing. I have pretty much decided not to use the Citi card anymore with this International Transaction fee uncertainty.

On the subject on loading an image, I learnt this from jv not so long ago.
You need to go to My Account -> view (tab) -> files (tab). There you will see the "Upload New File" option. Click on this to upload your file.

After uploading, simply click on the image, which will show the link in the browser address bar. This link will refer to the image. Hope this helps.

  • Obviously a bit late now but remember you can price beat their fares with Jetstar so it's 10% cheaper and no CC fee.
