Remove Seat From 1992 Toyota Hiace

O.P.
Hi Guys
Have a 1992 Toyota Hiace that has 13 seats including the driver. The bus currently needs a light rigid license to drive the bus. We want to remove one passenger seat to make the van 12 seats so that it can be driven on a car license.

What is the process in Victoria to do this? I need a VASS certificate. Where do I obtain this and what is the approximate cost?

Has any one done this before and it hard to do?

Locateded in Melbourne, what is a good and cheap place to get this done ?

  • according to the vicroads site you don't need a VASS as you're not adding seating. taking away is a different story -as in, it was installed to pass VASS. so your "modification" is not "an upgrade" or "improvement" to the vehicle.

as long as the seating is 12 or less and the vehicle weighs less than 4.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) then you should be fine with a regular car license.

but call vicroads in the morning to clarify. 13 11 71, 8.30am-5pm Monday-Friday, 8.30am-2pm Saturday

  • Might need to get it put over the pits to license it as a 12-seater

  • Merged from VASS inspection

    Hi

We have removed one seat in a 13 seat toyota hiace and need to get a VASS certificate for it. The van still has all the original seats and seat belts.

What is normally involved in the process? What will they look for?

What is the aprox cost of getting VASS certificate?

After the I get the certificate do i need to bring it to vicroads and show them?

    Thanks
