  • JB HIFI is currently doing some very good prices on these as well

Microsoft themselves are doing these for $1711 at present. When you compare that with FUTU's list price ($1999), it is clear that they are taking advantage of the Ebay 20% OFF. So whoever is getting these, they aren't actually getting full 20% off.

Actually the $1711 price is the sale price. If you look on the Microsoft website, it says was AU$1,999.00. Did you expect it to be 20% off the sale price?

What's your point? Microsoft have reduced them from $1999 for a limited time. This pricing does NOT flow into the distributor channel so the regular price is $1999 and I would say around 10% margin at best minus ebay and postage and you have a slim profit. But you expect the reseller to sell below cost because Microsoft has a limited sale on!

Why you even bother to buy from this people, they not pass the discount to customers, bring up the price before sale, what a dirty tactic, last time I buy from the it takes 3 weeks to get my item.

    • They are trying to make the discount looks a lot larger, if they stick with the price before and sell it at $1599, then the discount will be a lot less, maybe 10% or less, and will not be able to attract people into clicking on the site. Not sure if ebay is part of this price increase.

Dirty tactic or not $1599 is the best price I can find. Both Microsoft and jb have then for $1711. If some one else has them for $1599, then we could buy from there but at the moment this seems to be the cheapest if you want one now. Maybe I need to check if jb will do a better price in store.

    • I believe EBay and the participating sellers are in bed together. If you look at the way these are being billed, the seller gets the full price but EBay forks out the discount. Now we all know at the end of the day buying from this EBay promo only gives you an additional $12-50 (MS is doing 10% sale for EOFY). There is a not a lot of margin to give away for these devices anyway. That $12-50 EBay/Futu gives you are a result of lower cost of goods at the reseller/channel level. At the end of the day a discount is a discount.

Utter rubbish, if you want to look at the surface as you are Paypal forks out the discount which clearly isn't the case. You have no idea how much the sellers are paying in additional fees to participate in this promotion but it's a hell of a lot more then their normal fees.

Why do you think only limited sellers are involved?

        • Well I speak based on what I see on the billing. On the Paypal transaction, it says 'ebay discount'. Obviously this is to attract online shoppers through its site and then deal with 'who funds what' in the backend. So I would guess this is a mutual (e.g. one needs shoppers, one needs a channel to clear stock) and may involve multiple parties since we are talking quite a large quantity (look at amount sold per ad) so a disti and principle vendor also behind this deal.

Of course I wouldn't know the exact backend transaction. But sounds like you know more. Mind shedding some light then?

How else is a discount going to be offered on ebay given they are merely a platform for selling and have no relationship with the seller outside of this?

In the case of the group buys there may well be distributor or manufacturer participation from a pricing perspective but there is no way that for the tens of thousands of items offered on ebay by the participants in this deal that there is any support outside of normal volume discounts.

  • Great price if you need one now, but the max I'll pay is under 1k. Might have to wait…

How fast is the SSD compared to Sansung 850 Pro?

    • Much faster. SP4's use the a newer NVMe Samsung

      • Awesome! I will wait foe the sale on the Pro i7.

  • Just pulled the trigger on this. Up until this morning, I was going to go with Microsoft, but this is about $50 cheaper all up by my calculations. Yes, MS had them on special but that ends on Wednesday - these will still be at this price after that. Three weeks delivery? I hope not, but I can live with it if were.

    • There is 12% cash reward for microsoft.com.au purchase from Cashreward, so $1711 would be $1505. It's cheaper than buying from eBay.

      • Cashback on Surface: 4.80%

        • Would appreciate a clarification if CR is 12% or 4.8%

  • Yeah @jayzee that was my original thinking but after I looked a bit deeper and calculated it all out, Futu was that little bit cheaper. However, I did buy the type cover directly from Microsoft. The CashRewards rebate has been recognised already, which is a relief.
