Hi all!

I can't live without my Qi charger for my S6. It's so good when you can just place your phone on a charger and not have to worry about cables/plugs etc.

Becky https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/121684 from Everbuying and I have come up with a deal on a Qi Charger that has had good reviews and is of solid design/quality.

Qi Charging: is my phone compatible?

There are a growing number of phones that come with the Qi charging feature, the issue is that many users aren’t aware of its presence. Phones that support Qi charging include:

Samsung Galaxy S5 Nokia Lumia 920
Nokia Lumia 928 Nokia Lumia 929
Nokia Lumia 930 Nokia Lumia 1020
Nokia Lumia 1520 Samsung Galaxy S6
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Google Nexus 4-7 Motorola Droid Maxx

Personally I'm not a fan of wireless charging.
    1) I prefer to use my phone while charging, can't do that easily while on a charging pad
    2) Looks like they only charge @ ~1A - Slow, compared to even standard 2-2.4A chargers, not to mention QC…

    • I bought a battery charger and a spare battery for my S5. Just keep swapping batteries.

I prefer charging when I AM NOT using my phone. Pointless having a mobile phone which is plugged in every time you use it.

      2) Looks like they only charge @ ~1A - Slow, compared to even standard 2-2.4A chargers,

Who cares. The whole idea is that you charge it while you sleep. Or when you are NOT talking on the phone… which is most of the time.

You realise that you can ALSO plug in and charge normally as well? I mean, Qi charging and normal or QC charging are not mutually exclusive.

Pointless having a mobile phone which is plugged in every time you use it.

No one is talking every time. Don't make up information just to support an argument.

As to the rest of what you said (and like 99% of your comments, it's just another troll comment anyway):
        1) I said I prefer. You know, my opinion for how I use a mobile phone?
        2) why put your phone on a pad to charge when you could just have it plugged in for ~1/3rd of the time?

Fact is, no one would care about a 1A car charger or wall charger, why should wireless be any different? There are faster ways, not to mention there's even 2A wireless charging pads!

Hell, I doubt even the OP has actually ordered 1 of these!

          1) I said I prefer. You know, my opinion for how I use a mobile phone?

Yep, and good luck to you. You know, my opinion is that I prefer NOT to have mine plugged in all the time to charge, because it shits me to tears - especially when I have to make or answer a phone call.

          2) why put your phone on a pad to charge when you could just have it plugged in for ~1/3rd of the time?

Well, I thought that answer would be pretty damn obvious.

I put my phone on a pad to charge so that I NEVER have to have it plugged in. So, compared to your method, I just have mine plugged in 0/1,000,000th of the time.

        • Fact is, no one would care about a 1A car charger or wall charger, why should wireless be any different? There are faster ways,

Often in life, it's not how fast you do it… but the timing that is the key to success.

Sex, Whiskey, holidays… these are some other things that are not always about the speed.

See, with a wireless pad it doesn't really matter how fast… you just plop the phone on there whenever you prefer. There is no effort involved, it doesn't really have to be fast since it's so convenient.

not to mention there's even 2A wireless charging pads!

Yeah, but to charge a phone at 2A would require a 3A or 4A power adaptor. And because it's inefficient it creates quite a bit of heat inside the phone, usually right on the lithium battery.

Wireless charging is a "slow and steady wins the race" kind of charging method. Not perfect, but really convenient.

        • @llama: Wireless charging does heat up the phone though. I'd even say that it's almost equal to, if not worse than using the fast charging feature. I've noticed that with my phone and I don't think I am alone in this (just google it, you'd see people's posts about it). If you look at wireless pads that can charge faster (i.e. Samsung's fast wireless charging pad), they've added a fan because of the heat (I think even that's still slower than QC 2.0/Adaptive Fast Charging).

I still use wireless charging because I find it convienient (especially since I change cases around, some cases have flaps). Though the point about inefficiency, I think that applies more to the wireless charging.

Yes exactly, which is why I mentioned it in my post that you replied to.

Oh - and the biggest advantage of wireless charging for most Android phones is that the delicately fragile MicroUSB socket is not going to fail!

And/or you can charge your device WHEN it fails.

My kid's Nexus 7 can only be charged by Wireless, until I replace the MicroUSB which no longer connects due to damage after being plugged in and used at the same time. And no, my kid is not rough, the connectors are simply a fail design (not sturdy enough for continual use on mobile devices)

      • Ok, forget my S5 which is still fine 2yrs later…

I've never had an android (Samsung) phone have a port broken. Cables yes (plenty), never the device.

So it's just an excuse for a band-aid really

  • Sweet look at that Nokia to Samsung ratio

  • Hmmm can anyones wireless charger charge off a power-bank without shutting off, when charging a device? (excuse the sentence lol)

    • The power bank won't shut off whilst the Qi charger is charging. They cut off when they detect no current.

However, the efficiency of Qi charging is pretty crappy, so you'll only get half as many charges from the powerbank as you'd normally achieve.

  • GS7 edge compatible?

    • Should be compatible. The GS7 is newer than the article i linked to, thus its omission.

It's not #7 best rated charger (on random website). That model is different to what you list.

Also 18% 1 star on Amazon - worrying.

Sorry, but that means sweet ___ all. That's like saying Holden is an amazing brand because a site deemed the Commodore #1 car. Doesn't reflect at all on the rest of their product range.

  • I have the generic of this charger from AliExpress. It is terrible. Avoid and spend a bit more. The Kogan ones are a lot more expensive but mine have been going strong for years now.

    • I bought a Kogan and found it good but the MicroUSB connector eventually broke. I modified it with a 3.5mm round power jack, and use an old Nokia charger to power it. The mod was NOT worth the time and effort involved.

The cheap generic one I bought from Ebay has never worked. It lights up occasionally, but never actually kicks in and charges.

  • Save your pennies. These are shit, yeah they'll work if your phone is naked but put even a slim case on and forget about it ever charging.

I've bought about 5 different cheap wireless chargers and yes some work but for the most part they are all rubbish. The single coil chargers like this one are the worst.

If you want wireless get the name brand and preferably a triple coil or stick with the cord.

    • Haha, what youve just said is just loaded language thats completely false.

Ive used a cover WITH my EFTPOS card in amongst it and get a full charge with no issues.
