  • Just wondering if this will fit a samsung note 4?

    Thanks!

    • +1

The maximum width of this car mount is 87mm so it will fit the Samsung note 4.

      • Good to know, just bought one

  • I know it says universal, but is this for only Apple iPhones? I've got a Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro

    • +1

Reading you own post, it's universal

      • what i was trying to get at, was it universal for apple products only.. anyway, i read the above post

        • +2

It wouldn't be universal if its limited to apple products. Would be appleversal in that case.

        • genius!

    • Is there Apple mentioned anywhere besides in your comment?

  • This was $9.00 during The Great Dicksmith sale

    • Yeah bought 2 from pre-liquidated DS.

      • Oh FFS.

      • code no longer working

I own posted product. I would actually agree, eventually the suction cup loses it's effectiveness.

Also bigger phones such as the iPhone 6 Plus or my Asus Zenfone 2 only just fit in it. I'd recommend looking at alternatives.

      • Damn I just bought it.. wish I saw it 10 seconds earlier lol

      • I also own one and agree totally - try to find one in a shop before throwing away $12. With the samsung s5 and with fingerprint swiping its useless due to the overlap of the prongs on holder meaning you cant swipe … yes I know the laws about using your phone whilst driving ;). It also manages to barely fit this phone in. With a decent sized protector you'd have to wedge it in most of the time.

      • Agreed. Would suggest looking for mounts specific for your phone type, not universal one's that claim to fit "all phone types".

      • I have bought these before, thinking they were good, but they constantly fall off, no matter how many times I've tried to rectify with cleaning glass completely. They will fall off with no phone in. The rubber/plastic for the cup is too soft and it gives way. I have had real cheap ar$e mounts that do a better job then this cygnett one.

I remember buying one from Dick Smith retail store about 2 years ago when it was on special for $10. Good buy!

I own two of these and the suction cup seal melts/leaks in the heat. Both cars have a black residue dripping down the windscreen. Needs metho to clean off.

I bought the first one for $35 at dickies, and the second for less than 10. Not sure if I would buy again. Works a treat though.

    • yeah, suction cups are bad in the heat…best to take them off the windshield if leaving the car in the sun.

are these easy/quick to install/remove? (the mount i mean, not placing the phone in the mount)

      • Sometimes it can be difficult to break the suction seal on these types of mounts. What I've found is that an old carpark ticket (or any stiff piece of paper/cardboard) works quite well in breaking the suction cup seal. Just unlock the mount, lift the suction cup up just enough to slip the ticket or paper under and just push in to break the seal.

  • Just bought one. Thanks.

I've had one for about 18 months and it's fine. Not sure I am just lucky after reading other comments. It holds my Galaxy S5 fine and I drive 54 km's each way daily on bumpy country roads and do a 3 hour each way trip to my other house on weekends, using the phone as a gps/speedo and it's never had an issue.

Oh… Yes….I did notice the suction cup started to leave a sticky residue and slide a few millimeters when the car was out in the sun during summer, but I just wiped it down, as well as the window with something the wife gave me, which I think was eucalyptus oil and didn't see it happen again.

Bought one last week when it was advertised here and it arrived on Monday (country Vic). Holds the Galaxy S5 fine and wife hasn't had any issues with the Iphone in it.

Oh… My Galaxy S5 has a hard tough case and it still fits. It's a close fit, but it does go in and out without a problem and the rubber grips have not worn or come off on the original.

I'm going to get another as a spare now as it's totally worth it at this price based on my experience.

  • What is the warranty 2 year warranty process on these if the plastic melts due to the sun? Do we have to ship back to Cygnett at our own expense? Post would cost more than the product…

edit: Need to pay shipping from and to? wow…

If anyone's looking for a better alternative, I've always used the Arkon branded mounts.
No issues with the suction mount, they use a spring loaded clip and not the rackety type with a release button which I find fail easy.
Looking at the pic of this Cygnet one, you can't chose how low the phone sits, so it's a gamble as to whether the side grips will be pressing the physical buttons.

  • Magnet holders are the best in my experience. One hand mount and dismount.

  • I just got http://www.harveynorman.com.au/phones-accessories-gps/iphone…
and works great and no sticky crap on windscreen or dash

  • 10% code does not work anymore 😞

You can get it for $6 from Harvey Norman. Bargain posted here.

    • That's not the same

      • -1

        They are the same.

        • The pictures look different.

The other deal is the DASHVIEW MINI UNIVERSAL CAR MOUNT SMARTPHONE HOLDER. This one is the non mini.

        • Sorry, my mistake.

I googled the product name in the title and assumed it was the same.

        • They do look different, I assume this model is better

        • @strikerzebra: I don't know about this one but I got the other one for $5 from Dick Smith and its not very good.

        • @daveaus: This one looks much more stylish!

  • sold out, all today's deal sold out quick

  • This car mount is now sold out, so we have listed this product as an alternative https://www.cygnett.com/products/dashview-vice-universal-car…

    • +1

What's the difference between this and that one?

    • So you jack up the price?

  • The only difference is the suction feature that connects to the windscreen.

    • Does this new car mount have the same maximum width as the other one (87mm)?

    • +1

What is the difference..? Which one is better?

    • Just bought one "dashview-vice-universal". As you have mentioned there is no difference other than the suction feature, so assuming that it will support holding Nexus 6P with 77.8 mm width.
Will be very disappointed if it is not wide enough.

Would be great if you can confirm.

  • Good price, good holder tho a few years after ownership the suction cup (which is black) will get sticky and leave a god awful mess. Also at times the press button release mechanism gets a mind of it's own, sometimes pressing it at a different angle will work, and lol, if you can't get it to release to open more for a larger phone (say your partners) your only option is to close it fully then press the release button.

I did leave it on my desktop for a month and it collected dust and lost all adhesive but a rinse under water and you can wipe it off with your finger and it's sticky as if it were new. It's a soft gel type of cup, it's not coming off the windscreen with ease.

otherwise, it's sturdy, never dropped a phone and if it bounces on bumps on the road lower it a little so it rests lightly on the dash solved it for me.

  • +2

This left a sticky mess all over my windscreen. My Gf wasn't impressed.

    • -2

Me wonders what happened in the car =) are you sure it's the windscreen?

      • +1

Come on its just a joke. Chill out

      • +1

I left a sticky mess all over his Gf. My windscreen wasn't impressed.

        • +1

why would you attach a car mount to your gf…?

  • Damn missed it! Noticed a few not so good comments above about this product anyhow.

Are there any good mounts for in the car for around a 5.5 inch phone??? I badly need one. I've had one in the past that inserted into the air vents but it was terrible.

    • Check out the Arkon MG279

  • Are you guys restocking this by any chance? Cheers

  • +1

There's a very similar Cygnett mount for $6 at Harvey Norman

    Cygnett Dashview Universal Car Mount
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/dashview-universal-car-mount.…

    • I've heard that one is terrible

  • +1

In laws had the one featured at Harvey Norman and the bloody thing kept on coming off the window. Suction was nowhere near as good as the one listed here.
See my reply earlier for my experience with the original one listed here.

Also regarding the comment about the mount on this sold out one covering the base of the phone too much and making hard or impossible to use the finger print feature on the phone… You can remove the base and turn the rectangle part the opposite way, so that the part you had a problem with, is now at the other end.
That or just turn your phone around the other way.

As for the alternate one now listed to replace the original, it doesn't have the part at the end, so your phone is not supported at 3 edges like the original one listed. Only 2 sides by the looks of the photo, so no support for the base if sitting the phone upright.

  • I just bought one of these, looks very similar but includes NFC to launch your fav app when you click in, also a few dollars more though…

    http://www.altronics.com.au/p/d2200-360-degree-universal-suc…

    • Could attach a cheap NFC tag to this mount and have the exact same feature.

  • I've had previous experience cygnett phone holder products and found them to be wanting in quality. Very poorly designed and very poor quality.

  • And my order for the mount with the 20% off voucher just got cancelled and refunded at 4:30 PM, with no explanation. Nice.

  • Mine got cancelled without notice also

  • Just received shipping notifications for two orders that the store rep promised to cancel and issue a refund after I contacted them via PM minutes after the deal was posted. So knowing that the order would be cancelled I ordered two different holders from the store that were more suitable so now have four being delivered… GREAT!

Lesson learnt don't trust the store or store rep as they are blatant liars!

  • Anyone had theres shipped yet?

    • yep last friday.

      • Damn. Mine's been sitting on 'confirmed' since Wednesday.

        • "With Australia Post for delivery today"
I bought the first model that was advertised in this deal..

  • Received today. The black goo at the back is pretty sticky. Perhaps it should only be used in Winter.

  • Finally shipped a week later. Wonder why I was forgotten.
