Love these, but it seems a little expensive considering you can get the U2414H for $229. But then again, 16:10 FTW. If you like 16:10 it's recommended.

I bought one of these last year for around this price. They are a little old in design only having DVI but they are a fantastic monitor. 16:10 is far better than 16:9. If you can live with DVI and DP then go for it.

Anyway mine was perfect, no bad pixels of any kind, it also runs really cool unlike my older similar Dell model with a fluro backlight. It's 8 years old and still going though.

      • I've got one too, it's great.

      • I've used both and I wouldn't describe 16:10 as far better than 16:9.

I would describe it as I notice pretty much no difference other than you have some black bars if you watch some kinds of video content.

Why do you think it's far better?

        • I would agree with you if all you do is watch is video content, 16:10 has no advantage there and even a pain.

BUT if you do any content creation or work in the PC say with spreadsheets then the extra height is very nice.

    • Oooh where have you seen the U2414H for $229?

  • gggrrrrhhh… out of topic, which one of u bought the last 2x U2715H i was on the chat with the rep just been told its gone… just though i would definitely get it this time.

    • Same happened to me - so frustrating. If only the rep was quicker!

      • Don't feel bad, and its not the rep's fault; i believe requests for a product go into a queue and then are assigned on a first come first serve, so it could very well have been sold out before you even started making your inquiry.

        • Yeah, for some reason, it took the rep 20 mins to determine if stock was available…

    • Sorry mate, I managed to get one of them :)

      • aha i knew it must be one of the ozb, all good man :)

    • Were they available today?

      • ye, there were 2 available in the morning

        • Damn, I missed it. After you've bought one can you please let me know? :)

  • Bought this a few yrs ago now. Can't complain. Can't go back to 16:9 now…

Great price for a U model

  • I got 2 love it!

  • I had two of these they are great, but the 60hz is annoying if you're a gamer. These panels can't be hacked to go higher either.

  • Thanks OP, been thinking about getting a new one. My friend has this monitor and it's awesome!

  • Dell P2414H for $183 again too hmm

  • I have pair of these and they are very nice

I used them @ Uni for reading Xrays, IMHO it is as good as EIZO or NEC for the price.

  • Dell P2414H for $183 seems pretty good since I'll be using it as a 2nd monitor instead of primary (Mostly for videos)

  • whats the appeal for 16:10 over 16:9? like I can understand 21:9 - it's for multitasking. but 16:10?

    • The screen is a bit deeper, personal preference I guess. You can fit more ozbargain deals on the one page without having to scroll?

More height. It's way better for reading webpages and doing work. You can have two docs comfortable side by side to read them. It's only an extra 120px but it makes a difference.

I also prefer the height for gaming but that's personal preference.

      1920x1200 > 1920x1080

Horizontal bars top and bottom with movies/videos but non issue when the extra pixels are more useful for everything else ;)

I've had 15", 17", 19", 20" LCD and CRTs then went to a Dell 2405FPW 16:10 (whirlpool group buy @ $1250) which was a big changeup and expensive one also. Then went onto a Dell U2412M which is now connected to my new quaddie skylake hackintosh and now upgraded to a Yamakasi 27" Q270 Jupiter 2560x1440 AH-VA 16:9

Love me some multi inputs :D

      • Would you recommend the Q270? I have virtually exactly the same setup (U2412M + skylake hack) and am looking for a second high res monitor QHD or above.

        • I just had to do a little colour correction and its now pretty good to my eyes.

As I don't have a spare HDMI that I can find my PS3 is hooked up with a HDMI->DSUB adapter to the Q270 DSUB and it's pretty good quality.
I was looking for 27" 1440p monitors that were cheap but with multi inputs.

          Bought it from bigclothcraft
It's connected to my main ivy bridge windows desktop to a HD 7950 with DVI-D and theres only 1 stuck pixel?? on a red background at the top left. Other than that its pretty perfect to me and its a 60hz monitor which I'm used to.

        • @nikon:

Nice, thanks. I shall consider it.

        • @MissKitty: Not a problem ;)

      • Also 19:12 is close to the height:width ratio of paper. It's especially useful if you are reading pdf documents, scanned books or comics with the monitor pivoted 90 degrees. Only elite monitors have pivoting stands.

If you want to watch movies (19:10 content), use a TV instead.

  • Been using one for a few years now. The lack of HDMI is a bit of a downer but the inbuilt USB hub is great. The menu control is very clunky and it is a pain if you want to constantly switch between input sources. But otherwise I like this display.

Best monitors I ever had - but the sale price keep staying the same! Bought mine back in 2014 and paid $249 for it

    • +1

I paid $1000 for the 2407 back in 2007. Luckily it's still going strong after nine years.

  • Does anyone know if these are refurbs or actually new monitors? On my order it actually says "DFO (NEW) Dell(TM) UltraSharp U2412M 24 Monitor with LED".

I guess they could have just been extras from some companies big order?

    • +1

When Dell say "as new", they mean it. Not a refurb.

      • Good to know, thanks. Is there a reason they can't just sell them at full price if they are actually new? I guess someone might have taken them out of the box and used them for a short time?

        • +2

The notebook I bought from Dell's DFO had obviously been removed from the packaging and repacked. However it didn't have any marks and did look "as new".

    • 100 people did. they keep coming back, I'm waiting to buy a monitor too from DFO.

    • Bought two. But took ages to confirm stock. Rep emailed me 5 hours after I asked him about buying two.

  • Only 12 months warranty.. I'd wait for a sale and get it with 3 years warranty. It might cost a bit more, but worth it imo.

When I bought an item from the Outlet, the change of ownership wasn't even put through in the system, and when I called up tech support with a problem, they identified the PC as belonging to some corporation.

  • Bought an as new S2415H few months ago, after using 1 and a half month, looks like a dead red pixel appears. Although its not very noticeable, is this normal for a Dell monitor?

    • So two million pixels were good?

    • I haven't seen/noticed a dead pixel in any LCD device I've had for a very long time. Maybe I just got lucky. But I think they perfected the tech.

  • Damnit! Just did the email to the boss to purchase 11 for my workplace and got the ok and it's expired within the last couple of minutes! ahh well.

    These are great monitors!

  • Got a call saying that most of the monitors were damaged and they would Be unable to fulfill my order.

  • hmmm. ordered 1. ETA was the 6th-July, now it's become the 22nd. Perhaps I should be lucky I still have an order.

    • And mine just got cancelled, they sent me an email saying the whole batch was damaged

      • They all literally fell off the back of the truck?

        • From the email

there was an unfortunate incident at the ware house and we have badly damaged all of the machine and your order was damaged too

  • Its back - 30 listed available this time.
I hope there are no more unfortunate accidents.
