PS3 120GB Slim Console $114, 160GB $118, 320GB $128 (PREOWNED) @EB Games

80

Good price for the PS3 Slim. The other models are also quite cheap, but in my opinion, the Slim is the best one. This is a good price even for a standalone Blu-ray player. Games are also going dirt cheap at the moment swell so it might be a good time to pick one up. Make sure you Pick-Up at store to avoid getting a 3rd-party controller.

I paid like 128$ for a 160gb slim at EB about 2-3 months ago, prices across the range were about 10-20$ more than this now. doesnt seem like that much of a deal to me

  • The 120gb series was nice design but the optical unit isn't too resilient.

Better to get the new 12Gb ($129) and then drop nearly any 3.5" HDD in it using a $2 caddy from ebay. Get a nice new controller too this way.

The 'SuperSlim' I believe are the most reliable and use the least power.

Most games are about $5 on Gumtree and Cash Converters if you shop around.

Check the controller if you buy instore and and swap it if not an original sony wireless one in good condition.

    • The brand new 12GB is only $99 in Kmart if you can get it in store. I couldn't find a link to it.

  • Kind of sad that most games that I want aren't available online or at my local store :( I'm not gonna freaking travel all the way to another state just to get a game

    • If it's not in the Playstation store, you can just buy it on ebay (or your local CEX, sometimes that's cheaper. I got the uncharted games for $6 each, no way someone will post them to you that cheap on ebay).

Now is a pretty good time to own a PS3 if you're value-conscious. I can still get into online games after a couple of minutes waiting on Uncharted 2 and 3.

  • What's the best way to get a new PS3 controller? One of mine started to play up recently and I doubt trying to repair it would be worth it

    • I've bought the cheaper ones off ebay but you won't be surprised to know that the battery is generally rubbish and after a short while there's a good chance you won't be able to use it without having the charging cable plugged in.

    • Kmart have some decent third party wireless controllers. Spotted a few at North Rocks and Fairfield stores in NSW. If that helps.

  • Are these good for JB?

Jb as in jailbreak? come to the store and check the serial number on stock. Anything below cech2500 (ie not superslim) is good for it. U will need to do a hardware mod, which is not super simple. With games being so cheap now, its really not worth it to jb, being able to stream games from your server and use xb controller are great perks tho

      • awesome thanks!

  • What do people do with their PS3s when they upgraded to PS4? At this price (it's worth not much more than a PS4 controller!!), it doesn't seem worth selling but I won't have much use for it when I'm upgraded.

PS4 doesn't have backwards compatibility, so I don't see how owning a PS4 has any relevance to owning a PS3?

    • In my case the PS3 does double duty as the main netflix streamer in the bedroom. The TV it's hooked up to isn't one of the smart TV jobs. The PS4 is in the lounge and gets a lot of game time. That being said, however, the PS3 definitely still gets quite a bit of game time too. Still loving how long between sessions of gaming before I need to charge the controller whereas with the DS4, it practically needs charging every night.
