  • Love these deals…got return ticket to london $700 last time! and coulda got cheaper.

  • Damn they dont fly from sydney?

    • +1

The Malaysian govt has blocked Air Asia X from the KL to Sydney leg to protect Malaysian Airlines. It was in the business press earlier in the year

  • im guessing from syd i need to go gold cost then kuala lumpar then uk for example?

    • Or get your own full priced fair to KL then airasia to UK…

    • yeah gold coast or melbourne (i usually find mel flights are cheaper from syd than gc).

or like muzzamo said, i have booked return to kl via malaysian airlines before and then used air asia to zip all over south east asia for peanuts :)

  • The travel time is sooooo far away, like an eternity.

  • Does anyone know if there would be any sales for travel during December, from Melbourne to London maybe later this year.

    • Usually AirAsia have their sales every six months for departures 12 months ahead so I would say that the cheapest seats for December have already passed.

  • I booked 3 of us KL to London for $2300 return for August this year , During last years sale
. That was peanuts , extra luggage and picking our own seats . I'll be booking next years flight as well if the prices are as low . Wouldn't mind checking out Hong Kong - China next year . Hell I might even spring for the XL seats and fly in reclined comfort like a king at those prices .

  • The sale starts on Tuesday. Does anyone know what time? Will it be 12:01am, or 9am, etc Kuala Lumpur time?

    • it will be Tue 02:01am Melb time……and the bad news is….it wont be zero fare but around $150AUD one way ticket…still cheap though compare to other airlines

      • Last time they had a sale I got Melb - KL return for $230 and that was with extra luggage.

      • What makes you say $150?

        • That's what AirAsia has been saying on their Facebook page. They say Melb/GC to KL will be 'under $150' one way (not including tax/extras). So I'd be expecting $149

  • Nice. Been trying to find tickets to China for less than $1.1k and seems like I can already do that without the sale on this site. Looking forward to the sale. :D

    • what are you travel dates?

  • Any idea what the flight periods are and what routes they fly?

  • no offence, just a not-so-good news bout airasia
Air Asia flights investigated by The Australian Transport Safety Bureau
    http://www.tweednews.com.au/story/2010/05/12/air-asia-flight…

    • +2

That no-so-good news pales with the problems Qantas has had in the last few years. In fact, most airlines have hiccups here and there, so this really isn't anything special.

      • Agreed.

    • and if you do further research, you'll find it's the type of aircraft that's the issue… the Airbus A330's are known to have dodgy electronics and misinterpreting flight data

  • Just wondering if we need to have our passport when we're booking?

    • No but you have to put a passport detail via Manage your booking anytime after you have completed your booking and before you fly. :D

    • I know when you book it does ask you for your passport number but I'm unable to say what will happen if you leave this section blank.

      • I dont remember you can leave it blank or not… normally I put some numbers there…bearing in mind that I will change it later. LOL

    • no, u dont have to put passport # when u book and when u r going to check in. i flew with then to kul, bkk, cgk, kul and back to mel again without any passport information.

  • Has anyone worked out their hint as to what the specials are?

    • The hint is a mathematical equation…. work it out if you want :)

      • Zero. Sounds good to me.

        • Zero plus taxes, luggages, food, comfort kits, transit bus (if going to KL city centre), lol…..

        • not zero according to facebook reply to me…they say it will be ~150AUD one way………

  • Anyone know what the best way to go to China from Sydney is? Preferably Shanghai or Beijing but looks like they only stop at Hangzhou and Tianjin as the nearest cities. =(

    • +2

by plane of course, boats take too long :P

my personal fav is cathay pacific. I used them last year open jaw for syd > hk > beijing and then return shanghai > hk > syd, but that was a ridiculously good deal else I would have taken air asia.

AA goes to the 2 nearby cities you mentioned, but both link up to shanghai/beijing via high speed rail, so it really is worth using AA.

If you have time, I seriously suggest you do this: aus > kl > tianjin by flight, sightsee in beijing, great wall etc (3 nts) then take the overnighter train to xian, check out the terracotta warriors, then take the overnighter train to shanghai and spend a few nights there before flying back to kl from hangzhou and then of course back to aus. The trains in china are fantastic, check out seat61.com for photos. Also whilst in shanghai and beijing there are heaps of things to do within a couple of hours of each city and its nice to head out of town and see the beautiful scenery and mountains.

      • I plan to travel to China next year and I think I'll take trains as per your suggestion. It sounds like fun!

        • the trains are reaaaally good and super cheap too. if you can, pick up a copy of lonely planet china, it has each of the states set out as different chapters which makes picking and choosing quite easy.

seat61 lists a number of agencies where you can book tix online, but we just did it there over the counter, about 3-4 days before departure without any problems. basically we would get into a city and book the tix straight away before starting our 3-4 days of sightseeing.

do the trains, you wont regret :)

          • @ccrap: A small point but AA usually means American Airlines, AK is Air Asia's code (the K reflects its KL base)

      • There are so many options in China.

Personally, I wouldn't treck halfway across China by train just to terracotta warriors. If you did there are loads of places to visit on the way.

I'm a foodie and recommend the dumplings (jiazi) in Beijing and the pan fried pork buns (Sheng Jian Bau.) Dirt cheap and delicious. They never taste as good outside their home towns.

  • Here is the latest newsletter on the current sale: http://www.airasia.com/nl/nl10051464ox_au.htm

  • just seen a press release. Fares to Australia start at $149. Google 'kangaroo route airasia' for more info.

'In addition to Free Seats on these selected routes, AirAsia is also offering super low all-in fare from RM49* to destinations such as Bali, Hanoi, Haikou, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and many more. Highly in demand “Kangaroo Routes” in Australia such as Gold Coast and Perth are available from RM149*, Melbourne from RM199* while those planning for a European getaway can opt to fly to London from as low as RM699*. Those who are into exotic attractions can opt to go to New Delhi or Mumbai, India from as low as RM199*.'

So MEL-KL we can expect about AU$129, while PER-KL AU$99,

      Also http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/mp/7245126/airline-in-9…
      —>PER-Bali $99

      • Thanks. Didn't read it carefully. That's fantastic!

      • Brunei! Wohoo~

        • +1

          And your point is?

  • hey guys. apparently i missed the deals to go to malaysia on dec. so any suggestions for me to still fly cheap there. thanks in advance. my timetable can be flexible between 1 dec to 7 dec. and i can change flight. as long as it's cheap. god i'm so regret right now. any advice would be nice..thankss…

    • airasia are the cheapest. You won't find cheaper. Before airasia flew here even the fare you can get now for the dates you want are lower than was ever possible before. It's still reasonable.

Remember to book early next time ;)

      • really? i was just thinking maybe flying to singapore then change bus those sorts of thing. but i dun know whether it will be cheaper. it's just kinda sucks when my friends bought early and got the cheaper price. thanks anyway.

  • sites already gone to shit

  • i think im gonna experiment with a new tactic

find the dates on adioso, click book now which will take me to the airasia website with the dates and credentials put in, then change fares

    will that work?

    • Adioso doesnt get updated frequently, not immediately sometimes… so best bet is go to http://www.airasiaplus.com… Look for the cheap flights that will be listed for the next 15 days, and go back to AirAsia website to book it..

Use mobile.airasia.com if the main airasia website does not load up.

  • yeah but if you click book now it takes you to the airasia page with the exact dates

if i look it up the prices on airasia plus, then click book on these dates adioso ignoring the price it says, it will take me direct to the day i want to fly, and i can select my booking from there

    • Yes, but Adioso needs to update the sale manually, so it may take a bit of time for Adioso to manually update the search engine… and these sales come and go very quickly…..

      • im not sure you understand what i mean

if i go to airasiaplus, and the cheapest date is the 8th of january

then i go onto adioso, type in 8th of january and say the fare is $300 on there

if i click now it will take me to the 8th of jacnuary on the AIRASIA website, where i will be able to view and change to the cheapest flight that day, therefore skipping the first couple of pages of the airasia website and reducing hte chances it will freeze on me

      • Good idea Jack but Adioso hasn't loaded any Air Asia flights after Feb 2011 and they won't be loaded straight away, they only seem to update once a day at the most

        • would only work if you're flying before feb (sale goes to may)

  • Has the sale started or still 40 minute wait? Some flights for next year from Mel-kl are 146 aud economy promo, is this the big sale?

    • the sale prices aren't up yet

      • Cheers

  • yeah im flying then so fingers crossed it works!

    • are the new prices up yet? it says the fare from kuala lumpur to gold coast is 129 dollars but when i click in it becomes not available at this date. what does it mean? what should i do now?just wait?

  • Wow this is frustrating

  • ain't happening!!!!

  • anyone got thru?

    • not yet, one step into the mobile process (I've selected my country)

      • Same here.

      • Dam! just died there too.

  • is the flight to KL the only one showing up for anyone else?

  • airasia plus working for anyone?

  • KUL-MEL MYR613 excludes tax. That's not that cheap!

    • damn, it's same here, not cheap at all!!!!!

    • that's 1 way?

  • oh well. Back to bed I guess.

  • can't do shit..

  • Life really sucks sometimes.

  • up to date selection but can't get further.

  • Only managed to see the prices a few times, all not for free. :( Cheapest $79. Also managed to check the seat availability page, and some of them are already "yellow" = limited and they are in the Jan 11 area. (Melbourne to KL is already limited) How the hell did ppls book them anyway???

    • do you have a link for the prices?

      • nope..only managed to see the ones I wanted to go. can't even go back to that page now.

    • Thanks for the update Temjin. So…what the hell was the "clue" all about then if flights are not $0?

  • After 34 minutes finally got a ticket from melbourne to my bed for free. good night.

  • I got two tickets to Bali from Perth for $223 inc taxes per person over the March long weekend. Now the rest of Asia!!!

    • how?

      • How? Just booked it online through the mobile site…

        • I had like several tabs opened up on mobile site, getting capacity error msg. :(

  • +1

    you guys, READ PLEASE!!!!!

seats are NOT COMPLETELY FREE from Melbourne to Malaysia,
AND you've got to pay TAX + food + luggage too!!!

omg, don't expect a COMPLETE FREE international flight……….

    • +1

yeah sure, but the prices I'm getting so far are pretty shitty anyway

  • wow, I still don't get how u guys managed to go thru the checkout process without timing outs? Surely u have to reconnect every time you "move" to the next step?

    • you can just hit back and try again on each step, thus slowly crawling forward

  • just got to the point where it told me it would be $400 return without taxes melb to KL on one,I thought they promised below $150 a flight?

    • where did they promise that?

      • "ttp://news.brunei.fm/2010/05/17/airasia-offers-1-million-free-seats-…-explore-boundless-connectivity-across-asia-and-beyond/

  • Buzz Buzz freaking BUZZ

  • yes, it gave me $400 melb to KL one way! shouldnt it be much lower?

  • has anyone been able to get a flight to somewhere apart from KL up?

  • Perth to KL booked for $140 one way per person inc taxes

    • Yeah I couldn’t get any, mine showed as $224 each way without taxes, in Jan 2011. I suspect I was a little too late.

  • i found $149 ishh including tax Jan MElb > K.L
