Mow and mulch or take away?

    • +3

Hi whooah1979! We usually leave cuttings in the client's green bin, garden bed, or on the lawn (some clients prefer this as it fertilises the lawn). We can remove cuttings for a small fee - this will depend on length of grass and size of lawn.

  • Basic Mow to all new clients (normally $20/month)

How many inches high is this? 2" or 3" or 1' long?

How many inches high is this? 2" or 3" or 1' long?

That's a bit personal but at least you're honest.

      • +1

        LOL

    • +4

A Basic Mow refers to the size of the lawn (usually under 100sqm) that is not overgrown. There is a $15 once-off surcharge for overgrown small lawns :)

What is overgrown? Usually anything above 3 inches (7cm) is overgrown.

      • +2

I told all my ex-GFs that above 3 inches is considered grown too large or beyond its normal size but none of them believed me! Luckily, I finally found someone (now my missus) who would take my words and believe me.

        • yahhh, im "overgrown" … lol

  • VIC only

    • +12

Too late! Already threw out my mower :'(

    • +5

If enough ozbargainers sign up, they will open branches in every states.

      • +3

But then they'll have to trim those branches or it won't look nice!

        • +1

You, sir, most certainly have offspring.

        • @tshow: Are you stalking me? I can't imagine how else you'd know!

  • OP edit your post to say Melbourne only mate, I'm in Canberra and now I'm sad :-(

    • +1

Hey Dominus, if this goes well we would love to service some Canberra residents! Fill in the form anyway and we'll let you know :)

  • +11

you might regret putting this on ozbargain :)

    • +1

Hi alanyang7, why do you say that? We're new here - would love some pointers :)

      • +33

too many customers. (only interested in the free offer)

        • +7

I love how we are not ashamed of saying how it is. haha. Atleast you are honest.

        • +5

          @All Blacks NZ:

exactly. $20 to mow lawn is about $18 too much for ozbargainers.

        • +4

@juventino: unless they accept payment in DSE vouchers

  • My lawn doesn't grow in the winter… It is too cold and it goes dormant…

    • +21

My lawn doesn't grow in the winter… It is too cold and it goes dormant…

      Good for you.

      • We've found quite a lot of demand during the winter because of the rain. After months of rain, the grass is usually due for a good mow!

        • -3

He said "doesn't grow", not "grows slowly".

      • +1

It is… Keeps my weekends free !!!

        • +7

          welcome back jv

    • +3

Not sure why you got negged. I have not cut the grass for last 2 months now. I cannot see it overgrown yet.

  • Looks like Metro Melbourne only… Might want to update title.

  • +7

Website says it is "Automated lawn mowing"

    ???

    • +2

Hi what we mean by automated is just referring to the ongoing lawn maintenance. We come by 'automatically' each month (whilst giving clients 24 hours notice) to do the lawn :).

      • +2

was looking forward to robot lawm mowers :(

        • +3

Pray to God Grassnet never becomes self-aware.

        • My mate has one…

  • +2

Well I for one think this is a great service.

If you could do approx 900m2 of lawn in Brisbane for $40 per month, I'll certainly be interested. :p

    • Thanks Clandestino. Please fill out the contact form anyway :)

  • Would like to see you service Brisbane.

    • Hey sistermay, please fill in our contact form anyway :)

      • -7

Why? So you can spam her??

        • +8

No, So he can fly up with discounted airfare, do the job and fly back.

        • -4

@coprocessor8087: Looks like he didn't have good intentions with his request, he hasn't responded to my question.

        • @pmupsinep: He think you are also in Lawn Mowing business and trying to compete with him.

        • @pmupsinep: Actually we've been trying to organise the contact form submissions on the website :)

And no, it's not to spam her. Would be great to let her know if we're in the area.

  • Hi OP, do we have to sign up for an years contract to get the free mow?

Also, the end date of the deal says 16 july here but 15 july on your website, please clarify.

    • No there is no obligation to continue after the first month.

We're terminating this deal at the end of the day on the 15th :)

      Hope that adds clarification

  • +1

  • +4

I canceled my previous gardener because the way he cut my lawn it was like he was giving it "a Brazilian".

    • +4

it was like he was giving it "a Brazilian".

probably getting carried away with the Olympics…

  • Can I opt for free hedging instead of free mowing?

    • No sorry mate :(

  • +3

If you open this service up in WA i would be absolutely all over it - i pay $40 every time i need a mow and i have roughly 25sqm. This is literally the minimum anyone would rock up for. i have been waiting for some kid that lives on the street to knock on my door with a lawn mowing side business on weekends..

    • +1

Hey harukinights, please leave your contact details on our form - we'd love to get in touch if we ever expand to WA :) You should not be paying that much for a 5 minute mow.

Entity name: MOW NOW PTY. LTD.
ABN status: Active from 29 Jun 2016
    Entity type: Australian Private Company
Goods & Services Tax (GST): Not currently registered for GST
    Main business location:
    VIC 3173

    • +3

Not seeing any problem here. Businesses don't need to be registered for GST if they don't earn above a certain threshold (don't remember exactly what it is, around $70k?).

      • Strange to go to the effort to setup a company and not register for GST anyway. Charging GST actually makes you appear more "legit" imo.

        • +1

Well it depends it takes me a whole 5 mins to change a company to GST on the ato portal so there is hardly any extra effort or cost.

        • Strange to go to the effort to setup a company and not register for GST anyway.

registering for gst for services like lawn mowing is a waste of time. with minimum assets and low upkeep costs, while charging 10% less than a big name franchises are an advantage.

Charging GST actually makes you appear more "legit" imo.

a client contacts op for a quote. op rocks up and do their thing. op provides the client with an invoice and gets paid. then rinse and repeat every month. how more legit can op be?

        • @whooah1979:

It's just how it is. When you see a business that doesn't charge GST, you know they are a sole trader, and this can carry additional risks - at least many perceive it that way. Obviously not as big an issue for a lawn mowing business, but it can have an impact.

On the cost side of things, while you charge 10% extra, you also get to claim that 10% gst on running costs and equipment, so there is no reason why you can't still offer your services lower than big name franchises.

Also when you finally do reach the no GST limit, all of a sudden you have to increase your prices and explain to your existing customers that you now have to charge GST. That alone makes it worth charging GST from the beginning imo.

    • jezze thats a new born business

  • +2

Course there is no problem but its to show business location. I don't see someone as a start up servicing all of Melbourne metro especially if located in South Eastern burbs. Easily to over commit and annoy people though. The testimonials are also BS if you read them. Dudes been in business for 2 weeks FFS.

    • Ok, that makes a little more sense. Just posting the business info without any context left me wondering what point you were making.

    • +4

The testimonials are real. I know Andrew S. from Burwood.

      • +11

Small world. So do I. I ran into his sister Jenny S from Burwood the other day and asked her to give my regards to Bill & Helen S from Burwood too.

        • +6

how are they? did Jenny get that promotion she was going for? Was Bill & Helen's 40th wedding anniversary holiday fun?

        • +8

@altomic: Actually she is still waiting to hear the outcome. They are down to the final few so she is still in the hunt. Apparently Bill threw his back out in the midst of some Anniversary activities. Silly old bugger still thinks he is 50.

        • +6

@MaMan: that is so typical of Bill. Helen would have cracked it. Geez they are funny. Fingers crossed for Jenny.

        • +4

          @MaMan:

Wish you two had still continued the conversation. Andrew S's family sounded very interesting!!

        • +1

@Pepsii: none of them are related.

      • Has Jenny come out of the closet yet?
Bill is going to throw out more than his back when he hears about that!

        • Apparently Jenny and Pam are going to africa to adopt a baby name Abiola, by them bill will be able too put the cot together unless Helen has another fun night again with Bill.

        • +1

@limitilbur: Oh, are you a friends of Pam's?
How's her leg after that incident while serving in Iraq?

        • @McFly: Pam's uncle here. Haven't met Jenny yet. Pam's adjusting very well to her prosthetic leg. Unfortunately she left her local soccer club despite the coach insisting that she's still as good as ever. She wants to get into marine biology now.

        • @McFly:Pam was a helicopter pilot, Pam has made fighting for Veterans her life’s work as off her leg she had a splinter.
Pam was playing basket ball with Drake Mallard and falls to the floor and then tells the referee she's unable to get up. Pam had been impaled by an enormous splinter from one of the gym's floorboards.
Lucky Launchpad McQuack had arrived and tried to figure out how to transport her to the emergency room.
Launchpad had thought they were going to have to remove an entire board and take the board to the hospital.

        • @Pepsii: I was taking about how she stubbed her toe on a table leg while serving drinks at a UN hotel bar. Saying I'm shocked would be an understatement!

        • @limitilbur: Hope the board made it…

    • +6

Hi MoMan - actually we were trading as a sole trader for the past 2 years. It's only two weeks ago when we've decided it's probably better to incorporate and turn it into an official name. The testimonials are also direct from clients. We're purely offering a good deal for users and we do have clients all around Vic - Casey areas, Truganina, Sunshine, Glen Waverley - you name it. Hope that clears things up.

      • +6

I don't see why you should incorporate any business on day 1 of doing business without knowing there was any traction.

      • Yikes I'm a contractor, never heard of a contractor doing areas as far flung as Sunshine then Casey. You are going to be busy….

      • Port Phillip prison is located in Truganina.

  • -2

    Caught out lol

Got any deals coming up for MOWvember?

  • mate do you go to ballarat?

    • hey mate, no not right now. We've been out there at times - fill out the form anyway and we'll let you know if we have some jobs near you

      • that would be great. would i still qualify for the 'free mow'?

  • When it says per month, presumably that's one mow a month? I can't be the only one with a lawn that would be in no state if we only did it monthly…

    • Hi Pais, it's a minimum of once per month, but some clients do have a trim on a fortnightly basis - completely up to personal preference. Cheers

      • +6

Can you please convince my wife that a fortnightly trim is the way to go?

        • Absolutely Wallyt99 - have you filled out the form? We'll be in touch tomorrow :)

        • +4

          @bestdealhunter:

I'm not sure if Wallyt99 would like you touching his wife in that manner.

        • +7

Careful - if she's not trimming regularly you could be charged the extra overgrown fee. Worth it though!
