Mobile Battery - Claim on Warranty or Just Buy a New One?

The battery life for my LG G3 is about 7 to 8 hours on light usage. The battery is still under the manufacturer warranty.

I wonder if LG will replace it or just use the excuse of it might be due to Wear and tear, so not replace it.

In addition, I need to send the battery and the phone to NSW (I'm in Victoria). Will it be better to buy a battery on ebay. I found some between $8 to $16.

Anyone have experience with battery phone warranty?

buy a new battery. wear and tear - they are not expensive.

    • Any suggestion where i can get a good one?

  • Are you sure the battery is still under manufacturer warranty?

    • Yes. I'm not a heavy user but the battery is already so bad. Sound better to buy another battery than doing a claim under the manufacturer warranty.

      • eBay batteries are likely to be fakes with poor life.
You'll find that a genuine LG battery will be in the range of $60-80.

If it's genuinely covered by Warranty, get it replaced under Warranty.

        • Do you know where I can get a genuine battery?

If I know for sure they will replace it, I will send it. However, I think they might say it's normal wear and tear. I don't want to waste money sending it to another state by register post.

        • @gto21:
LG Spares (online in Spain) or any of the LG repair centres locally.
I had them all quote me on a replacement battery for my LG Optimus G and the prices ranged from $60 to $80 as above.. I've assumed the figures will be similar for your G3. (LG Spares were cheapest even after their outrageous 20 Euro shipping fee was added)

        • @scubacoles: Even when it was relatively new the battery life was average. I'll try to get an extended battery instead.

        • @gto21:
eBay batteries are generally fakes, this one looks no different.

There's negative feedback on that same item claiming the battery is only 3000mAH
do a Control-F (find) for 8200 on this page.

          and another poor review here

          Same seller, same item description.
You'd be better off buying a Xiaomi powerbank and gluing it to the back of the phone…

        • @scubacoles: That's a nice way to find reviews on e-bay. I never thought of doing that. What I did was to find it on Amazon and read the comments.

          https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heliotion-Capacity-Replacement-Exte…

That's exactly what I'm doing right now carrying my Xiaomi powerbank everywhere I go.

        • @gto21:
It's a pity so many people get something in the post and instantly leave a good review without checking the actual performance/quality of the item.
I'm sure you'll find some positive reviews for the same item too.

  • why not give the warranty path a crack? If that fails, then buy a new one! Agree that ebay batteries are never as good as an original.

Check out betterbatt. they have a 300 day warranty on their batteries.

    • Just thinking instead of spending money sending it by register post to NSW. Maybe it's better to invest the money into another battery. And I think they might say it's normal 'wear and tear' and not repair it. Even when the battery was brand new, it was not that great. I'm considering buying an extended battery.

something like this one : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222153760862?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

  • i think battery only have 6 months warranty instead of a year, but this is for the Sumsung product

    • I have two years warranty for the phone and 1 year for the battery.

  • Are you sure its the battery, and not that you have lots installed that is churning through the battery? Some particular apps running in the background can drain my battery in a couple of hours.

    • I've check in the setting I don't have any apps draining the battery significantly.

      • When I first got my phone the battery lasted all day. After about a year it didn't make it to lunchtime. I was going to buy a new battery but before I did that I did a factory reset. Now it's back to lasting all day.

        Factory reset

LG/Motorola = Power button + Volume Down button

Samsung = Power button + Volume up button + Home key

On Motorola and presumably the other brands it is safe to try these key presses because they bring up a menu that lets you choose whether to initiate a factory reset.

Make sure you have backed up all of your data.

All of your apps can be redownloaded from Play Store.

With Samsung phones make sure that Contacts are in Google and not Samsung so that when you log in with your Gmail account everything will come back. If they are in Samsung make sure they are syncing and that you know the Samsung account UserID and password. Many times I have seen users who when they get a Samsung phone they create a Samsung account which they never access again and they forget the password. All of their contacts have gone into the Samsung contacts and they lose them all.

I have never used an LG phone so I don't know whether this is an issue with them. Check!

        • I actually did a factory reset yesterday. And the battery life is much better now. The only major difference I've notice under the battery usage is that "Android System" have decreased from 21% to 13%. This time, I did not update LG apps. I think the pre-install apps updates caused the battery to drain fast.
