Orbit 10 Pack 5w LED Downlights (240v GU10 & 12v MR16) $16 @ Masters

420

As part of the "Garage sale" promotion, Masters have 10pc 5w Orbit brand LED downlights, in both 240v GU10 and 12v MR16 fittings.

Specs according to pack:
400 Lumens
15,000 hours
120 degree beam
240v (GU10) & 12v (MR16)
warm white (3000k)
Non-dimmable

Receipt here.

There was heaps of stock in the Adelaide store (at least 50 packs of each fitting type). Appears to be multiple (if not all) Masters stores. Not available on their website.

I've swapped out 10 of my old CFL with these already and I'm very happy with them. Nice and bright with good diffusion and spread of light. I used a 10% discounted BigW card, so it effectively made these $1.44 per unit!

  • Not listed online based on Chullora NSW.
    Twin pack $10.

    • Yeah, it's not listed online here either. On the receipt, it has product code of 9420014231466, and on the price ticket, it has 101989823. Might be worth ringing your local store to see if they can look it up on their system.

I believe 9xxxxxxxxxxx is the product SKU as recorded in Masters inventory. The 1xxxxxxx is the product barcode. But they somehow are translated as the same product in Masters.

Not very bright but super cheap.

    • Agreed, certainly not the brightest you can buy, but for most, I'd say it would be ample. They are definitely a hell of a LOT brighter than the 11w CFL ones I had (even once they were warmed up). On their own rating scale, they indicate brightness in the middle of the general range on a scale of "Ambiance -> General -> Task". I'd certainly believe the 400 lumens claim.

      guilty as charged!!

    • Just like my wife!

        Pics or it didn't happen!

  • Good price but a bit dim and not dimmable.

I do electrical design engineering and am a qualified electrician and LED lighting is one of the (many) nerdy things that I'm interested in

Although very cheap, I would avoid these LEDs. Not all LEDs are created equal. The only brand to buy are Philips - especially their Master range. Quality, long life, bright and the best bang for buck

Osram is a close 2nd. Avoid everything else

You don't give any reasons not to buy them.

      • +1

        Poor quality
        High failure rate
        Low output

Stick with the main players - Philips and Osram

Agree. I thought I'd be smart and buy 20 bulbs on ebay (no-brand) MR-16 and GU10 LED bulbs. 15 of them are now DEAD after 1 year. @#($*@ Phillips LED, while more expensive are true to their claims. I have a few that are run as garden lights and night lights (8 hrs per day). Still going strong after 4 years.

Agreed. Had a dozen of these from Masters, and quite a few broke within a year. Unimpressed. Any claim is made through the seller, being Masters. Was too far and impractical. And seeing as they're closing you'll be left with duds and no warranty.
I think when Mirabella LEDs are half price say at BigW that's a decent deal.

      • And seeing as they're closing you'll be left with duds and no warranty.

When did they announce they are closing? Woolworths are looking to exit the hardware business and are looking at selling Masters not shut it down like you have claimed.

        • Sorry I may be confused about that. However if a business is in administration (unsure if Masters is) like Dick Smith, the laws differ regarding warranty. That's another sorry tale of mine, ending up being an unsecured creditor with still no warranty fulfillment in over one year.

Masters has never been in administration and never will be.

    • I do note that the brand Orbit Lighting is not listed on that benchmark. It's a NZ brand http://www.orbitlighting.co.nz/. Someone can buy a pack and mail it to the LED Benchmarks people and see how they stack up.

Sparky here and i agree 100% on this.

A bargain is a bargain but when it rears its ugly head when leds start failing then you know it wasnt worth it.

I tested out the click range from bunnings and i can say the 6w set did the job nicely but out of the 16 i changed 3 have failed already and 1 is starting to flicker.
Also just to note that they do not save you any power because they consume a fair bit and also in my experiance i have high ceilings down stairs and as such i need a 10ft ladder so i dont want to be dragging in my 10ft fibreglass ladder in and out of the joint often.

At work we are slowly changing onver to the lwd phillips range and these leds stay on 24.7 and they have been lasting months and still counting.

  • TIL there is a Hardware Store at an Airport. No wonder Masters failed…

    • +2

haha… Adelaide Airport is, believe it or not, a suburb. Of course it encompasses the airport, but also a considerable area around it as well.

    • TIL there is a Hardware Store at an Airport. No wonder Masters failed…

Masters hasn't failed, Woolworths wanted it to be profitable before it was going to be and that is why they are exiting the hardware business. LOL at you actually believing there was a hardware store at the airport!

      • It was a tongue in cheek comment, pointing fun at the "TIL" crap you see all over reddit and the likes, most of which is sarcastic. Of course there wouldn't be a giant Masters store in an Airport. I didn't know there was a suburb called Adelaide Airport though.

  • Nice, Still too far away. Sorry Masters

  • I brought alot of the orbit led lights, and they failed to work in couple of months.

Depends where you brung it to?

  • I'm curious if anyone has found these in any other stores? I'll update the post if you can let me know.
