Maintaining Virgin Gold Status by Due Date

Hi All-

Falling short of 20 status credits to maintain the Virgin Gold status.
All the business travel scheduled after the revision dates.

Would like to know the cheapest option (flights from Sydney) or if any other way to remain Gold.

I was in the same position a few years ago. And to my pleasant surprise they sent an email saying as I only just fell short, they would keep me in gold. It was a standard computer generated email.
No Idea if they do it regularly, but there is hope.
I think more likely too if you have other future travel already booked with them.
You can always get on the phone and ask, if it doesn't happen for you. And you can truthfully say it happened to someone you know.
They'd be nuts if they didn't, priority check in & lounge access are the cheapest way for them to keep customers coming back.
And if you don't already know, family pooling is a brilliant way to rack up status credits.

  • Thanks a lot Matt. That's why I always say that ozbargain is a close knit family full of helpful mates . This made my day and hope to sort it easy way . Will keep posted on the development .

It's not something they do regularly, it does happen at times, but I wouldn't rely on it! Some people have been lucky enough to be comped Gold (and even Platinum) when they're a few SCs short, but many more have had to do the "hard yards" and make sure they earn the required SCs and eligible sectors. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who gets the comped status, so there's no harm in the OP asking - you never know your luck.

Mind you, if you have to do a status run to get the extra 20SCs, it's pretty easy from the eastern states cities, and can often be done quite quickly and cheaply. Try living in Perth - doing status runs from here can be a costly and time-consuming exercise :( Unfortunately we don't have the option of inexpensive short "hops" between cities (SYD-MEL, MEL/SYD-CBR etc) - doing short status runs here means flying to one of the regional centres and often costs more than flying to Sydney or Melbourne!
