Free Mr Men or Little Miss Book (Usual Price > $4) with a McDonald's Happy Meal

590

Noticed that the Happy Meal toy is now a book. One of ten to choose from.

Mr Cool
Little Miss Chatterbox
Mr Funny
Little Miss Giggles
Mr Happy
Little Miss Hug
Mr Strong
Little Miss Princess
Mr Tickle
Little Miss Sunshine

I don't know when this promotion ends.

You can buy them $4-$6 each online but if you only want a few of the above titles then the $5.20 Happy Meal makes it a good option. (Edit: If you want the book by itself, it is $2 at McDonalds.)

If you want to buy the entire collection of 47 Mr Men or 35 Little Miss then you would go with DavesDeals instead.

They always give a toy or book with a happy meal.

    This is the normal offer.

This is neither a freebie nor a bargain…

    • +4

You can also buy the toys separately, I wonder what they are charging for that?

They might be cheaper than retail that way and therefore a bargain?

      • +5

I thought you could buy the toys separately for $2 and if that's still the case, then it's cheaper than retail.

        • I can confirm this is still the case. Source: family members that work at Maccas that both hate and love working there.

        • Just so people don't get surprised in future: these books should be $2 at every store, but Happy Meal toys in general can have different prices… usually $2 or $2.50. Individual stores set their own prices for anything not broadly advertised.

    • +10

I would consider it a bargain. The standalone book usually costs this much, but this time you're getting the cheeseburger, fries and coke along with it.

Similarly other people have posted 24 Nuggets for $10. 24 nuggets is usually available at a higher price but at the moment it is at $10 and is considered a bargain.

      • -6

Then why don't you publish on ozb every week when they give free toy with their Happy Meal….?

        • +19

Because they don't usually provide a free toy that is highly desirable and has a comparable retail market equivalent, making it difficult to compare like for like.

I'm also viewing this through the eyes of a father. I don't want my daughter to get those usual junky toys. But a good quality book, now that's something I want my daughter to have. So if I can get a book plus lunch for $5.20 when the book is usually obtained for >$4 then I'm up for it and I suspect some other ozbargain parents would be as well.

He's got you there mate. Go buy your Little Miss happy meal and be happy.

        • @Jesmond: Did you just assume his gender?!??!

I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I'm the most un-PC person here.

  • Deal ? Bargain ? Not Qualified

  • +1

Most of the time you have no choice. You often get the same toy or book.

  • +3

Can someone who frequents or works at McD's let us know if you can indeed purchase these for $2 each

    • +1

Confirmed. The problem is they don't usually have all the toys/books available at the same time so you have to visit the store every week if you want a complete collection.

      • +1

        Thanks mate, good to know

    You forgot two other titles:

    Mr Hyperglycaemic
    and
    Little Miss Lap Band

    ;)

    • +2

Little Miss that hipster cafe isn't serving you anything particularly healthy either!!

  • Hi OP,
A positive from me as if it wasn't for your post, I wouldn't know the 'toy' is a Mr Men book.

  • -3

Pro-tip - local libraries de-commission their Mr Men books (and almost all books/resources) after 5yrs of borrowing life, which means they give them away for free. Most libraries allow you to put your name on a list and they'll contact you when they want to give them away. My kids have their own personal library thanks to this tip someone gave me here, many moons ago now. I started collecting these before jizz trophies were even born.

    all good parents should ignore:
    * copious antibiotics in food
    * genetically modified ingredients (they iz safes, they iz)
    * more additives than you can shake a stick at

All good parents should ignore True Heroes:

ladies and gentlemen, Mr Grumble ^^

      • As much as I like going to Maccas for a quick, cheap meal, I can totally understand where @cheepwun is coming from. Still… I'm taking my kids to Maccas, but I'm going to teach them eat in moderation. Something I need to teach myself too.

  • +9

Ive got one already and they are NOT the same quality as those you can buy seperately. Theyre printed for Mcdonalds and pretty poor quality.
Better than a toy and i did enjoy reading it to my son, but a warning to those who want to collect them.

    • This will probably have the Maccas branding on it at as well. Not sure if that will matter to you collectors out there or not.

      • It does. Happy Meal printed in the back cover.

  • bought whole Mr Men set from Costco for $50. My kids love it.

  • For those wondering how long this will last, new Happy Meal toys usually come out each Wednesday.
We don't always get notice of how long any given promotion will last, but in this case there are five pairs of books, we've had two pairs already… so Tuesday 6th of September would be the official last day. Though like all Happy Meal toys, depends on how popular they are at the store you visit. Might sell out early, might be less popular and last longer.

    • in this case there are five pairs of books, we've had two pairs already

Please explain. I have never been able to get he whole set of any toys.

      • O.M. G. YES! I keep going back to get a complete set, but I never can! They keep telling me that they still have boxes of the first few in the series, so because of that, they don't get in the rest. WTF ?!??! That doesn't work in other countries I've been to. You get a different one every week!

I wanted to collect all the Adventure Time ones. Nope. Didn't happen. Ninja Turtles? Nope. Didn't happen. Hotwheels? Nope. Didn't happen. Always the same response.

        • Forget going back to get the whole collection. Today I wasn't "allowed" to have a book because I requested a boy toy while in drive thru and it ended up being a skylander because they haven't finished them yet apparently. But the girl toy was a book. My son wanted a book not the toy. I had to kick up a stink to get the book. "But you want a boy toy. Only girls can have the book". If my son wants to read little miss sunshine then he shall read little miss sunshine.

        • +1

@icyprincess: This kind of thing really shouldn't happen! I can possibly imagine that if it was in the middle of a busy period, the person packing the orders might be stressed, but that's not an excuse for not getting you what you want.
If you wanted to take it further, you can always call the store, or leave feedback on the McDonald's website at http://macc.as/feedback.
Plus, OzBargainers will be happy to know, submitting feedback there gets you a voucher for a free small fries, 10 McBites, or a soft serve cone (best deal is the McBites).

      • One small thing first: I was mistaken about the day of the week for new toys; it's Thursdays, not Wednesdays.
Anyway, I'm not quite sure what needs explaining, but:
Mr. Men and Little Miss books started on the 4th of August, with Mr. Happy and Little Miss Sunshine. Mr. Tickle and Little Miss Hug started a week later on the 11th. Mr. Funny and Little Miss Giggles this Thursday, Mr. Cool and Little Miss Chatterbox next week, and Mr. Strong and Little Miss Princess after that. Official last day is 7th of September.
As I said, the exact dates might be fuzzy due to demand at any particular store, but generally if you want to collect any given set, you have to visit regularly.
