$5 Burrito (Worth $11.50) via Guzman Y Gomez App

2070

Nothing will beat the free burrito which is currently still active, but the $5 burrito might be a decent alternative.

As mentioned previously by some ozbargainers, $11.50 is not worth it. However, $5 should be more manageable.

The option for the discount happens at check out. See here for sample: http://imgur.com/a/CWzxD

lunch today sorted. Thanks for the heads-up OP!

  • I assume this is like the "free" burrito, where it actually discounts the price of a standard burrito (or in this case $6.50) off any ordered item?

  • +9

Definitely not worth the RRP but for $5 it's a decent lunch option.

    • Tried it today and it actually came up as $5.5 (original price was $12 instead of $11.5).

      • +2

I am guessing you had steak? That one is 12 instead of 11.5.

  • Oh yeah!

  • +1

Anyone know how long this last for?

    • +3

A long time I would say.

The free burrito lasts for 3 weeks already.

    • Picked up a flyer in-store yesterday, says 'limited time only'. Was thinking of posting but OP has beaten me to it.

    • the guy at the counter didn't say how long but said it's one per week NOT one per day………so that's a sustainable offer…. now to sort what to eat the other 4 days.

  • +4

Don't mind a bit of mexican to mix things up a bit. My main gripe with this chain though is almost ways the food is not warm/hot enough temperature wise.

    • Agreed, the last couple of burritos I've ordered (through the app) the tortilla was too cold - the filling was warm enough though.

    • Do you not need a new phone number to register each time?

      • +10

There's a free burner number site, that someone posted in the last deal.

I didn't end up using it, was a little bit too far past my ethic threshold. No judgement but.

    • +9

that's pretty scum to be honest. No need to be a human leach.

    • +2

i bet your the type of person who never supports their business when you have to pay for it.

      • -3

ive actually paid full price for a few burritos before. i hope they continue this free burito. im saving a lot of money from lunch which i can spend ob other bargains on OZB

        • -2

          good attitude

  • Appears on iOS as well.

  • $11.50?! Welcome to "inflation too low" Australia, according to the Reserve Bank!

    • +9

It's called running a retail food business in Australia. Wage costs 101.

      • It's also due to the all-devouring real estate bubble. Wages compared to rents have stagnated.

    • $12.50 in WA #miningboom

    • Just wanted to apologize to anyone who I offended with this comment. I was speaking generally and was never meant to target anyone. Though looking back at it, I didn't see it through the eyes of others and can see how it could be offensive depending on individuals situations (which may be completely out of their control).

I've requested the above comment be removed.

      Cheers.

  • Something to note, this offer did not appear for the Sydney Westfield store, although it does at other locations

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems to be working now

  • almost got the old one

  • +1

Does this work for burrito bowls as well?

    • +5

      Just tried. Yep!

  • +2

$5 burrito is a good deal, if your free burrito has been redeemed already

    • So $5 a burrito is a bad deal for some people?

      • +6

The average ozbargainer cuts the toothpaste tube in half to get the last tiny match head sized bit out.

        So yes.

        • +4

the average ozbargainer doesnt use toothpaste at all.

          @dabell:

Charcoal is good for cleaning teeth. Free don't need to buy, just burn a few twigs.

        • :P

        • hungry jacks free coke refill……. just rinse and swallow does the same for cleaning teeth. just no fluoride

  • wait the free burrito works if you re-register?!

  • -4

So I guess no one read the terms and conditions on the free burrito deal last time? The $5 burrito deal has been active since the first "free burrito" deal was posted.

    • +1

no after i got free burrs once, next time it asked me for full price.
      have you tried???????

      • +3

Yeah I've been getting the $5 ones since I used the free burrito. There is a little toggle that you flick on that says something along the lines of apply $5 burrito discount.

      • +3

        Downloaded the app yesterday.

Got my free burrito and a $5 burrito.

Lunch for me and the wife sorted.

        • +4

You can do it again on her phone too

    • No it hasn't. Proof?

/edit/ Ok it works for you. Odd since the original ozbargain post for the free burrito got edited to remove the mention of the $5 burritos and GyG released a statement, I believe on Facebook, saying the $5 deal would be made available at a later date. I don't think it has been available for the majority of people hence this post

      • Interesting, didn't know the original deal was edited (I went back to check out what you meant).

Don't know why it hadn't been working for others when it's been working for me.

  • +4

Used my free burrito already. Just checked my app and the freee burrito is still available. Did a dummy order and it came to $0. Great. Another freebie.

  • +1

I'm more than happy to pay $5 for their burritos.
    Definitely worth it.

  • +1

Is the $5 burrito one off or can I use it multiple times?

    • Try it and tell us

    • +1

      Once per day

  • +1

Couldn't get the free burrito or the $5 one, and am pretty sure my app is fully up to date. Anyone have the same problem?

    • i do, ios here.

    • Same here, but apparently if you complain about it you get negged. Still doesn't work as of latest update. Going to process an order crashes on my Android (order was still for full price). No offer for me unfortunately.

    • Same problem here. Staff didn't know and wouldn't honour either deal. (at first they said it was because I had added coriander to my burrito which was not free - which is just incorrect. It is free and you are allowed to pay for extras on top of the free burrito anyway). Posted on GYG page, they told me to email [email protected]. Of course, they haven't responded yet (2 days later).

      • same here

        • They just got round to my email. Blamed it on server issues and have re-applied the coupon. Looks like email is the way to go (I also contacted them through the app - no response there), though turnaround is 2-3 days. Give it a go!

        • @mathematicalcoffee: thanks heaps.

  • I used this today at the Canberra Center. Splurged an extra buck on sour cream and a coke. For $4, I was well fed!

  • +1

Anybody had issues with their older account where even the free burrito was not offered after installing the app. Now the $5 is not available. I had to create another account with another number but prefer to stick to my original account with my email address.

    • They had a screw up with it yesterday. They sent out an email saying that you can redeem it twice today instead of the once.

Too little too late. Had KFC yesterday.

    • I just raised a help ticket through the app (or you can do it in your browser) and a couple of days later they added the free burrito to my account.

P.S. It does say on their website sign up page there and not via the app you won't get a burrito. But that doesn't help those of us that already had an account.

  • Thanks for the reminder about free burrito. Picked one up for lunch today :)

  • Can also be a burrito bowl, for those who prefer the bowls to burritos.

    • +1

Bowls are better since you can fill up on onions and coriander. Add a bit more of a colour and variety to the rice and bean.

      • Doesn't everyone just load up and spoon the onions, coriander and pickled jalapenos directly into the bowl?
        Bugger using the little tubs.
Also go for about 7 or 8 pumps of the habanero sauce for a nice tickle.
They also have really nice soft paper towels that are great to use as tissues when you have to blow your nose because of the heat.
        I take about 10 at a time.
        Giddy up!

Huge 60MB app that will cramp and slow down your phone. Not worth it. Uninstalled the App

    • +1

60MB is not large at all in 2016. Unless you have next to no space left on your phone, installing a "huge" app wont have any effect on performance.

    • Free (cheap) food? totally worth it especially to live in Australia

  • Its not showing in my app anymore. Is it with everyone else also the same?

    • Not work for me too

    • Yup, it's finished.

  • -1

was looking so much forward to this deal, but the stupid app kept crashing on me (android, miui), so out of anger i went to their competitors (texmex) and spent $23 on 2 burritos, they were delicious though!

  • Works now!! Just closed app and opened and clicked randomly diff stores then i went back to normal store and it worked.

    $5 lunch Wooooooo

  • If anyone has problems getting the offer try logging out and then back in again.. Worked for me

  • Great offer and really like the ability to place an order on the app and pick up at the counter in a few minutes. Hope they keep this offer going for a while.

  • +1

Can't get it to work. Logged in and out, reinstalled app etc. Nothing seems to work. I did get the free one last week but $5 option never appears.

  • +1

Tried to order but says store is closed.. 😩

    • it worked for me today at australia square

  • Worked just now for me

  • Watch out for the dodgy servers, They will deduct payment from your account even though the transaction failed. Its been a week and nothing has been returned to me even though the app said it would take 3 days. Its a bit dodgy.

    • In the free burrito post/thread, someone actually got hit with 100 charges to the card instead of the 1 for adding some extras.

    • I've been stung twice by it now…still can't stop ordering every day though. I assume it should be easy enough to correct eventually

  • +1

seems like the $5 discount has been removed from app

    • yep, cant find it..

    • yes also seeing this. visited in store and asked someone at the counter - they didn't know what I was talking about (how?) but they asked a chef and they confirmed the offer had ended. I'm reasonably confident the counter person correctly conveyed my query - try saying that three times fast!

I'm glad I was able to finally get over the line with GyG points during this deal and then use the $10 for two burritos over two days.

  • :(

  • I had 2 attempts before it worked on the 3rd time.
Then I checked my bank account and I've been charged 3 times.
