I had to read that twice, to make sure i wasn't seeing things, especially the buy one get one free.

I dont remember the last time I saw a BOGOF laptop deal? Great post OP! :)

    • +2

the last decent BOGOF deal that I can remember was from HN, and it's been probably 3-4 years back

I still can't understand how they can sell 15 inch laptops at $1000+ with only a 1366x768 HD display…

    • +6

Maybe that's why they are doing a bogof

    • +21

      and 15'6"

      and its AMD

and it runs a 5,400rpm hdd

      and its 10/100

      and its 2.39kg

this thing is getting worse by the minute

      • +4

        Wow that's terrible!

Even at $550 a piece, that's still iffy! Haven't we seen some Lenovos or something for about $500 with a basic i3 or core m?

  • +7

They sell more units if they sell it for 1/2 price. Just silly marketing.

I'm sure your 5 second appraisal is correct unlike those sillies over at Dell that have been working on this for years.

      • "those sillies" have been working at Microsoft store and not at Dell though.

    Very low specs!!!
Processor: AMD A8-7410 is a mobile quad-core SoC (codenamed "Carrizo-L") for entry-level devices and subnotebooks.
    SCreen resolution is only 1366 x 768
Integrated graphics card AMD Radeon R6

There is no way a laptop with such low specs should cost $1099.
But then, if you need two laptops with touch screen (provided that touch screen would work reasonably well with these low specs hardware) for just very basic work, it's an OK deal @ $550 a piece.

  • There is NO DIFFERENCE between the Dell Inspiron 15 5555 and Dell Inspiron 15 5000 model just so everyone knows. It's just so that Microsoft can have a preset S/N to be able to auto add to cart for the BOGOF deal. It also states on the Dell Inspiron 15 5555 page on the bottom that it is actually the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Model NOT some different model.

  • Specs are terrible

    and 15'6" 1300x700
and its AMD mobile low level processor
and it runs a 5,400rpm hdd
    and its 10/100
    and its 2.39kg
Integrated R5 AMD mobile graphics card

At $500 this is still not worth it. Unless you buy this for a very particular job, and you need 2 of them, and you have one grand to get rid of, it's paying for a slab of stone.
    It actually deserves a neg.

  • Not a deal, you can get a decent 'As-New' or even a Refurb from Dell DFO for $550.

  • Well, the AMD A8 is roughly the equivalent to the latest Broadwell Pentium (a bit higher than a Celeron, no where near the i3) so this should be compared to the recent bargains selling for about $400 or so in equivalence specs. $550 each is a bit too expensive, but not sure why most OEMs ask bit more premium for it.

terrible spec. no way it's worth $1099 for 1 so they've massively inflated the price for this deal

    • Actually, I go to the Microsoft Store every week, and it has been $1,099 for the last 6 months. It's also the only 15" with a keypad. They also have a Latitude 14" 7000 for $3,099 with only 4gb of ram!

  • The i5 version with a non touchscreen from Dell's eBay store was listed at $799 a few days ago, after 20% off, 1.25% cash back, that works out around $631. Even better if you are from overseas and can claim the TRS discount.

I'd rather have an i5 than a touch screen with this resolution. That and unless you are buying for a business, getting one laptop for less seems like a better deal than having a second laptop and nothing to do with it.

    • Yeah I hate companies who have similar model numbers but different specs!

  • +2

    Isn't the A8 7410 slightly weaker than an i3 ???
The overall specs aren't impressive and at $550 each this not a good deal, sorry OP.

In fact I think it's dirty marketing by Dell/MS as no one in their right mind would pay $1099 for one, so BOGOF is obsolete.

    • It's lower than a mobile i3, I would guess around a Celeron-N.

  • This is an awful deal on a terrible computer. Bad screen, bad components, bad construction. Worth about $300 each.

  • No wonder . They are selling a sub $400 specd laptop for $1100. Shame on your Microsoft

  • Anyone suggest better alternative deals?

  • Does anyone know if they use a Aus bank to processing a purchase? There online sales people were useless and told me to ask my bank. Just want to avoid fees. Thanks
