    You brewtie.

These sales don't always require a docket, many times it's just advertising for products already on sale. Not a bad idea to go in an ask, i've had them give me discounts anyway.

    • yup, I had one dude tell me about the deal and find a voucher behind the counter. Worth a try even if you don't have the voucher.

      • Last time round I always asked if I could keep the voucher, was only refused once

        • Depending on which one I go to, my fave always gives the voucher back.

  • +1

Anyone got the docket scanned so we can print?
    Worth an ask.

  • +1

Anyone have any luck getting the Porter at $10?

    • I looked for the porter last time and couldn't find a Liquorland that had it (I checked three of them). I'm sure you would get it if it was in stock somewhere

      • I did get it today in fact. There was a sign in my liquorland saying the whoel squire range was $10 a 6 pack if you had the docket.

I am now enjoying a porter as a write this, but sadly, it is a James Squire beer, which are only slightly above average. Drinking this just makes me wish I was drinking a Black Beer or white rabbit dark ale.

  • Time to stock :3

  • Was able to get Hop Thief as Ocean Keys was out of Swindler

  • Only allowed one 6 pack?

  • Any minimum spend to get this on a docket? Can I just go to self serve and split up what I'm buying to get more than one docket?

    • Usually requires a purchase from the deli or meat department to get the beer offer.

      • +1

yep, my missus bought $12 of (non deli/meat)stuff today and theres no voucher on the docket.

        • I'm not sure what qualifies the voucher. I thought it was a deli purchase until that stopped working for about 3 shops. I even started a forum question about it. But within the last few shops, not at my regular Coles, it started again. Not sure what triggers it…

        • @njm: I only bought a pack of Drumsticks (the ice-cream) for $4 and was granted the voucher, so there doesn't seem to be anything in particular that triggers it.

      • I just bought normal groceries and got the offer.

    • +2

Last time staff told me trigger is spend over $30, including an item from meat/deli dept. Was changed to stop someone just buying a $5 tray of Coles sausages to get a $10 JS six pack. Their words…

I spent ~$50 today inc. deli item & got the voucher. Didn't know promo was back until read docket. Nice one!

  • +1

Is this a good deal? I always get the 6 beer for 10 voucher. I have this voucher and a voucher for hahn super dry right now.

    • +1

      Serious?

      • +1

Sorry mate. I never used this kind of voucher before and I did not have lots of beer. Which James Squires will you suggest if I want to try?

        • +5

'The Chancer Golden Ale' is probably a good starting point for the JS range. Smooth, palatable, minimal bitterness.

        • +4

          @dd22qq:

'The Chancer Golden Ale' is probably a good starting point

Definitely, if you're not used to drinking 'hoppy' beers…

        • @dd22qq: Thanks.

        • @goodchild: All of the James Squire beer is leagues ahead of the stuff you normally get for $36-$50 a case. Do yourself a favour and try it!

  • I got the beer offer today when all I purchased was bakery goods. I checked in with the guy at Liquorland as to which James Squires I could redeem and he said any of them, he also said they would do the cider (not sure what it's called) also

    • Yeah they generally let you get any of the squires. I've normally asked and never been refused.

      • +3

i have tried this at two different liquorlands here in Perth and both times rejected with the store rep saying "nope, swindler only. We are not allowed to give you any other JS as a substitute " . no amount of convincing would get them to change their minds..so walked away empty handed as swindler is crap. Their loss, went to Dan Murphys and spent my money there

  • wrong product

  • +1

You will not be disappointed with Hop Thief and golden ale. 150 lashes was disappointing, but still better than xxxx and VB

    • funny enough i enjoy the 150 lashes quite a bit.

      • +1

150 lashes used to be my go to beer a few years ago. Now I try and stay well clear of it because it has changed so much.

  • +1

Hop thief number 8 is very average. I'd recommend no 7 if you can still find it.

    • -1

Had hop thief during the $10 thing last time, not sure if it was series 6 or 7 but i remember something about galaxy hops.. anyway, it isn't a pale ale in the sense of Coopers but it was excellent if you're into fruity beers. Even just smelling it was fun, it had these beautiful passion fruit notes..It reminded me of Little Creatures before they ruined it. Poured a deep amber colour with a plentiful head, man, it just screams out to be consumed

      • I have only tried LCPA after it was bought by Lion, I didn't think it was worth the $69 for 24pack. So was it much better prior to the owners selling out?

        • +2

not sure if it was because of the change in ownership (although this sort of thing often causes breweries to try and find cheaper ways to make the beer), but I can confirm that a lot of the middle size brewers tasted a lot better quite some time ago. This includes Little Creatures, Matilda Bay, even James Squires.

  • +1

They wouldn't let me use it for Hop Thief this arvo :(

    • What did they say you could use it on? Did you ask them just to scan it to see what would happen?

  • +1

Had a docket for super dry last week would drink that any day over 150 lashes.

    • I thought it was just me who thought 150 lashes was way overrated

      • +1

They have a promotion going at my local gc $2.50 for a pot of 150 lashes I struggled to get through one.

        • haha, at 2.50 I would accept the challenge :-)

      • It used to be good, now I refuse to drink it. I'll drink the porter and the series 8 hop thief is pretty good, but I've disowned everything else James Squires. Still hope thief is $12 at Dan Murphys if Coles won't take the offer.

  • Shame 'The Constable' is not included. I much prefer that to the others.

    • It's not bad for a mid strength beer

  • I think you have to spend $30 or more at Coles because we always get these, and those $10 6-packa are a bargain!
Also, when you're in Liquorland if they have those 'spend $30 and get these for $10' displays, you can also qualify for those with this voucher too.

    • I spent $2.50 on some half priced toothpaste and got one!

      • +1

        I stand corrected :)

  • Spend $30 at vintage cellars and get the 6pack of squires or a bottle of Spanish red or a few other things for $10 each.

    Same deal kinda.

  • +4

I work for LL, just to clear a few things up:

Most stores will allow you to take any JS 6 pack (at my store anyway).
Yes you do require the docket.
If you ask nicely, most attendants including myself will let you hold onto a docket and use it again.
A scanned receipt probably won't be accepted.

    • thanks for the tip….asking nicely always goes a long way…

    • What about buying more than one at a time?

      • As long as you have multiple dockets, but I wouldn't let you buy a carton off one docket. Against company rules and could get in trouble.
It really depends on the person you get serving you and how much they care about the rules.

        • Damn, it sucks when the employee can get in trouble when the customer is trying to be dodgy.

    • I asked nicely and they took my receipt. Said it was "the rules".

  • I just bought $17 worth of stuff (chips, sweet biscuits, nuts, etc) and got the docket.

  • +2

I just bought a single banana and a single kiwi fruit from coles and still got the offer on the docket.

Have been to 2 different liquorlands and got hop theif at both. One place was happy enough to let me swap the swindler, the other one said he wasn't meant to but would still do it.

  • Thanks mate, worked with bananas, chocolate and chips.

I just spotted a Coles receipt from a couple of days ago (Adelaide) and it says the offer is $10 for a sixer of Squire Swindler. No Hop Thief mentioned.

I'm definitely not gonna go out of my way for that. The new Hop Thief… yeah, maybe, but ten bucks for their other beers is just okay. Not quite a bargain, just okay (IMO, of course).

  • -1

Can I buy a grape or two, go through self-checkout for a presumed total of 0.01c and get my receipt that way?

    • Why don't you just pick up a docket from the Coles car park if you want to be a stinge?

  • Got the Coles voucher with $10 worth of groceries. Local liquorland had no hop thief or swindler but nine tales rang up for $10 with the voucher. Cashier didn't even blink over it.

Was a bit miffed that for an advertised deal they had pathetic stock there was only a carton of two of James squires any flavor left.
