Spoke to aldi today and she said it isn't the model number that was used in the original post and the catalogue does not show one so I have taken it out to avoid confusion.

wow. Beating that previous Soniq deal by $200.

  • Is the TV any good even at that great price?

    • +6

I bought the aldi 65" tv in their last sale but returned it after a month. Not a very good experience

      • Yeah I just started reading reviews online now :/

        • +3

          @Steptoe:
Wrong model. Last 4 digits in model code are release date.

That's Aug 2015 model (ATVS65-815) by the web address. This model is July 2016 (ATVS65-0716).

Often from different manufacturer, different specs, different experience - Aldi just add their "Bauhn" trademark.

        • @Infidel:
          [UPDATE]

WRONG MODEL NUMBER LISTED IN THIS DEAL😠

So older comments refer to features in previous, not this model!

For full details, Aldi lists their weekly specials in an online catalog, which should contain the link to the model on sale. Have to wait until closer to sale date.

        • +1
        • @Infidel: That model number quoted by you is wrong too. Check the Bauhn site, it shouldbe ATVU65-0916. May be you got a typo there.

        • @ozmu:
I was responding with the model number originally posted in this deal - the available info at that time. Check the revision just before my comment, where the incorrect model number was deleted.

Steptoe had posted a link to an older model never listed in this deal, which could confuse people.

That's why I posted the update above (& throughout this deal) as soon as possible! Wouldn't want people to be led astray by wrong model info.

        • @Infidel: Cool. This whole thread is getting overloaded with too many wrong comments.

        • @ozmu:
It's a problem that happens when a deal changes after posting - people give their input on the deal, which is useless after the deal changes. Very annoying to those interested in the original deal & confusing for late comers to the deal.

All comments made before the deal was updated late on 08/09 are pretty useless as they refer to the wrong model.

OP made a mistake with the model number (& still with the specs) for the TV offered by Aldi & we responded to that offer. It was unfortunate.

Other than expiring deal & reposting (better option in my opinion), all that can be done is make people aware of the changed deal.

I've listed the specs for the correct model with link above. The link to the Bauhn site with manuals has been posted as well.

        • @Infidel: Can't wait for the first buyers' to post their reviews now. Still seems like a good buy with a wifi dongle.

        • @ozmu:
My opinion of the quality control in units like this supplied to Aldi by TempoAustralia peppers Bauhn posts. I am not a fan, after long discussions about issues within this supplier's operations, when they rang me to work with them to improve quality.

        • @Infidel: So are you one of them now? Hoping better quality if that is the case. I'm happy to test drive TVs for review if they want to.

        • @ozmu:
There were so many issues at various stages (design, production, etc) that my input would have been useless. Reviewing pre-production units might sound interesting, but with no time to change any fault found (contracted Aldi supply dates often don't allow time), it is just frustrating. Plus there are the restraints of commercial confidentiality.

I think suppliers view buyers of these products as their unpaid product testers & Aldi don't seen to care.

Quality control issues mean an issue with 1 TV may not be an issue with all units.

Lugging back a 65" TV is not most people's idea of fun😫

Reviews by us are next to useless for other buyers, as the model is often sold out by the time consumers post feedback. The next TV could be from a different supplier & manufacturer. Models are rarely released again. It a downside of Aldi's Special Buyâ„¢ sales.

      • What's wrong with it?

        • +7

The SD free to air picture quality was not good at all. The user interface was not very friendly. Flickering was an issue. Colours didnt look very nice

        • @pash81: I think 2 of those things are completely irrelevant TBH (for me anyhow) but the last 2, not so good :/

        • -5

@pash81: ppl still watch free to air?

          no internet where you live?

        • +1

@furythree: i don't miss free to air. because of the ads. screw free to air and foxtel and any other tv with ads.

          Barring ABC. And maybe SBS.

    • +3

The TV is fine, but the issue is trying to get one that's not faulty.

  • Where are you seeing this? I can't see past 10/9 :(

  • +2

Any link to the deal to see other specials?
Also deal starting from 16 Sep 2017 in 375 days or 16 Sep 2016!!

  • How can they have dropped it by $400 since the last one?

    • +7

      Cause it was trash

      • +3

The one I bought has been excellent for the price

        • The original model was great for the money at the time. Only issues are an auto-off timer that you can't disable, a little slow to operate, and visible banding if you turn the brightness up too much. All of those are avoidable, and at this price it is a steal.

        • @DJ-Studd:
          So it turns itself off?

        • @albanyson:
After a few hours, unless you get up and mash some buttons on the remote!
There is a setting in the menu, but the TV ignores this.

I'm sure they've fix this in newer models.

        • @DJ-Studd: so… is this current model good?

        • +1

          @Rick Sanchez:
It surely can't be worse than the original model, and I would buy one of those at this price without reservation!

        • +1

          @DJ-Studd: all I needed ;) thanks!

    • Because they're either making less profit or taking a loss in order to clear inventory space.

Most likely they're not taking a loss.

  • +4

If you're considering this for a monitor, go and google something called "4:4:4" and "4k tv as monitor" it's super important. I dunno if it's got that but that's way important on TVs as monitors for reading text.

    • +2

Great point. Some think that because a big TV is cheaper than a big monitor it's a better investment. After all, they do the same thing, right?

Text on a TV can look super horrible.

      • +12

I watch porn all day This screen will suffice

        • +2

          Any screen would suffice.

        • +6

          Phone is fine.

        • +2

@BartholemewH: Doesn't that only leave you with one hand?

        • @BartholemewH:
But this screen will bring captobvious closer to the action.

        • @cornbeef:

Are you saying you need more?

        • @BartholemewH: remind me to never buy your second hand phone

        • +2

@BargainKen: His second hand phone is fine. It's the first hand phone you don't wanna buy.

        • @montorola: preferably more than just your own

        • @titan0r: if only it were curved, i would be in the action

        • @cornbeef: Haven't you heard of VR?

(Porn is the only reason to have VR)

    • +1

Nope, you are bang on. Very important consideration. Barnacules nerdgasm does a very good review on this aspect, fins it on YouTube. There's also a decent website.

    • +1

I use a 65" UHD Soniq as a monitor with a cheap card that supports 3840x2160@30. Very clear display and works a treat for large spreadsheets. Bottom right cell = BG93.

      • omg i'd never need to scroll again! Thing is can you read what is in cell A69 from 2 metres away?

        • Yup you can see numbers in A69 from 2m away if your eyesight is good.

  • +9

65 inch for under $800 with 60 day satisfaction guarantee is great deal.

    • +2

a great deal of effort for normal households to take it home and take it back to store to return it :)

      75" box, GG….

      • Returning any large TV is a pain, be it returning to Aldi or another store. I'm sure many of us have returned big brand TVs to big retailers. This is no different. If you need a large TV be prepared to beg, borrow or steal a ride from your friendly neighbour who has a ute ;-)

        • 65" Dick Smith that I got after Xmas fit in the back of my Prius

  • Where are you seeing this price ? The Bauhn website still lists it at $1199.

    • +16

Catalogue…Just about to deliver them :)

  • +1

I assume this is a 60hz TV? Anyone know what the input lag is like for consoles?

    • +2

Would like to know input lag for consoles as well?

      • Same here!

    • +4

I'll take a guess and say shit.

      • +1

Yeh could almost garantee you won't want to attempt gaming on this.

Check out the Bauhn website for more information https://www.bauhn.com.au/product-listing/65-4k-ultra-hd-led-…

At $799 this might not have wifi

      • +2

The built-in wireless LAN device allows you to access the internet in a cable-free environment

        • Bahun make models with & without wifi
I will wait for more solid confirmation on the model number

        • @yoyomablue:
The link is for this model number, released July 2016. So specs will be same.

        • @yoyomablue:

Better reconsider the plan for using this as a monitor with WiFi… There's no WiFi & other features 😢

          [UPDATE]

WRONG MODEL NUMBER LISTED IN THIS DEAL😠

So older comments refer to features in previous, not this model!

For full details, Aldi lists their weekly specials in an online catalog, which should contain the link to the model on sale. Have to wait until closer to sale date.

        • Well done brain No wifi

  • +1

I've been using this tv for about 6 months now. For the price it's great! Especially when it's less than half the price of what your paying for other brands. What else can u get similar for 80p bucks!

    • +4

      Hello time traveller😀
This model was only released in July 2016 (last 4 digits of model number), so you have a different model, different specs, possibly from a different manufacturer, with Bauhn trademark added.

      • Yes i refering to the model that was released 6 months ago for $1199.

    • more like third of the price !

  • +7

I bought this last time for $1,199 too, and ran the software update as soon as I got it. Yeah picture is not great for the SD channels but it's real nice for the HD channels(FTA & Foxtel)/my 4K KODI box/or any HD content I throw at it. I even downloaded some 4K files from the net and they look fantastic. Bugga that it's now $400 cheaper though. It's a great TV for the bedroom where we don't really watch FTA channels anyway. It's pretty light so hanging onto the box for 60 days and returning it isn't really an issue if you aren't happy with it. It fit's in the back of a Toyota Prado with the seats out and down.

    • +2

I second this. Totally worth it!

    • +12

65 inch screen in the bedroom. A man can never have enough inches in the bedroom ;-)

      • Or a woman.

        • like tossing a sausage in a bucket.. not a good thing! less is more.

This TV looks good for the price. If you have a ute, you can take it back easy with nothing to lose.

    • To be honest I really don't watch FTA anymore it's Chromecasted Netflix, Google Play Movies or Youtube and XB1 gaming. If I do watch FTA I try to watch the HD stations anyway. If it does UHD res stuff well, I would consider it as I'm also thinking of getting an XB1S.

    • Any decent deal on Prado? 😜

    • Did you lay it flat in the Prado or standing up? Any issues/tips? Cheers

      • On an angle, but almost standing up. Back seats out and middle folded up. Sorry mate, was away over weekend and you probably wanted to know on Sat.

  • This is a newer model guys. The remote is with numeric keyboard also USB 3.0 is included and HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 ! Check the Instruction Guide here:

    https://www.bauhn.com.au/literature_153946/ATVS65-0716-_Instruction_Manual

    • +1

Yep, that's the one I got a couple of months ago.

  • gee that's a nice price for a 65" UHDTV - sounds to me Gui isn't that great but hell it all depends on the source device controlling it.

the father in law bought a 1080P tv about 3 years ago and still kicking , might give one a go.

I have a Samsung tv tuner unit - might give a better picture than the standard crap one.

  • +1

Fly swat the bung hole. A ripper of a deal!

  • +2

At this price, I might get one myself.

  • +14

Thought I'd better post this again. These JUST fit in the back of a new shape Corolla Hatch as seen here: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/67715/40584/bauhn_65.j… DO NOT attempt to do this is you have far to go though as you'll be smooshed up against the dash and windscreen the whole trip home. It fit but it was a very uncomfortable drive home and I couldn't really change gears so left it in 2nd most of the way.

Also see my review of this TV here if interested: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3821511/redir

    • Thanks for sharing again!

    • +1

omg thats a good effort i couldn't even fit it in the BMW x3 out of the box!!

    • +1

I can fit 22 of these in my LWB Range Rover

    • +1

Shoulda hired a station wagon taxi or uber.

      • +3

Nah, I'm an OzBargainer. No point paying extra for something I can do myself :) I love my Corollas for this reason. This is my fourth in 20 years and the stuff I've carted around in each of them is really eye-opening… from Postie Bikes to Arcade Machines & Ride-On Mowers to Jukeboxes. Great cars.

    • Is a Corrolla got more room than an early 2000 Ford Falcon? Not sure I can fit it in my old sedan one.
      Impressive for the Corolla…

      • +1

Yeah, I'd say so. Corollas (& many other Hatchbacks) are very versatile and have been specifically designed to take certain size payloads. Flatpacked furniture for instance… whenever I need to load that stuff into the Corolla (IKEA or Bunnings stuff) I can't help but think the manufacturers designed their cars specifically to take the generic sized cartons… or maybe it's the other way around or even a mix of both! Whatever it is it's pretty rare we need to hire a Ute or get help from others. Big shame Toyota still hasn't included inbuilt roof rack anchors though. C'mon Toyota! Such a simple thing to do that would add so much more flexibility to an already great car.

    • Yeah, never lay down a flat panel TV for transport, the screen will bounce like a trampoline. It's a great way to crack a panel or damage the internal light guides or just stress various solder points.

That said I've seen the TVs in ALDI stores stacked flat on pallets so they may have already done the damage for you.

      • Agreed and I used to be very careful about it back in 2005 when I bought my first ever 'massive' 37" TV however I've been doing it with literally hundreds if not thousands of TVs and Monitors ever since and haven't had one problem. Heck, I've even shipped large screens all around the country laying flat plus handled roughly by Airlines and still haven't had any problems. Not disagreeing but I just don't think it's as much of an issue as it used to be. I'd definitely be standing a 100" upright though ;)

    • +2

You're not a true Ozbargainer, you can fit at least a couple more in there.
