Capped Price Servicing at Dealership

Hi all,

My wife recently got my Nissan car serviced at the dealership and was told the service was going to cost $300 as part of the capped price servicing, it is still under manufacturer's warranty. I got charged additional $100+ because the brake fluid and air filter needed changing.

My gripe is with this is the misleading name of "capped price" servicing. I always thought the capped price means that that is the cap you pay when servicing. Is this normal with other makes or models, or is it just my dealership ripping me off?

Thanks in advance.

Some capped priced servicing does not include consumables. Check your service agreement.

My Honda's capped price service includes everything required by the logbook except for optional items like fuel injector cleaner, etc.

    • Is brake fluid and air filter part of a certain interval service?

      • Looks like Nissan is not the only one, according to Honda's website Adaptive items (pollen filter, brake fluid, air cleaner element etc) are charged extra. My car is just under 3 years old so it is not due for brake fluid change yet and I think in my last service the pollen filter was probably not required to be replaced hence I wasn't charged anything.

  • I think the recommended time for brake fluid change is about 3 years, check the owners manual/ service log book for exact listings per service?

Welcome to the joys of all manufacturer "Capped Price Service" programs!

    1) They don't include consumable (that's common sense)
    2) Many don't include filters, like pollen filters etc etc
    3) Many don't include belts/chains in their prices listed - Look at Holden for example, "Lifetime CPS" - you think that means you get a timing belt service for a Capped Price?

Each manufacturer has different 'add-ons' that will up the price. Best to check what's needed before you book it in.

Also, all offer prices etc on their sites, like so:
    http://www.nissan.com.au/Owners/Owner-Information/myNissan-S…

    • Hmm… this is a quote from Nissan's websiteL: http://www.nissan.com.au/Owners/Owner-Information/myNissan-S…

"Enjoy peace of mind each Scheduled Service at any Nissan Dealership throughout the program duration knowing that you’ll pay no more than the then current published price."

I do that take literally, consumables or not.

      • You surely don't expect to get brake pads, discs, even tyres included in the price do you?

And clicking on any of the brochures for the cars (well I clicked on the top Micra), shows the brake fluid in a different column, an additional charge

        • Ok fair enough. Still seems a bit sussed that brake fluid needed changing on a newish car. Might take it to a different dealership next time.

        • @geek001:

It says there it's every 2yrs/40,000kms, that's your logbook requirement. What service did it go in for?

  • we have only ever been charged the Capped fee for our Nissan,
seems like the extra charges were not part of that normal service - air filter not normally on you xxxkm service.

  • Had my Camry Hybrid for nearly four (4) years and haven't been charged a buck more than the capped price and she still runs like a dream.

In fact the Toyota dealership also offer me either a free loan car for the day (including petrol) or train tickets to the city and back for the famalam.

Cant speak for Nissan as I've never owned one..
