  • I'm getting an Xbox next month for my birthday from the wife and kids (grabbed one for $269 from Target recently). Can I setup an Xbox Live Gold account and purchase these now, before having the Xbox?

And I am better off setting up a non-Australian Live account?

    • +1

To your first question, yes you can setup a live Gold account and start buying the games.

To your second question, generally the deals on Xbox marketplace are not very good across all geographies. There are occasionally good deals on the US and mexican, brazilian marketplaces but you can switch marketplaces with the one account. Personally, I have switched marketplaces just to check out prices in other geographies but never bought from a non-Australian marketplace.

        EDIT: Never mind.

        • Thanks for the examples :)

        • @neophyte2:

No worries - just moved them up to the top under the 1st post.

      • Thanks for that. My previous experience has been with PSN, so wasn't sure what the go is with Live.

If I purchase from a different marketplace, do I need to change my settings back to that marketplace to download the game again?

        • No worries, apologies, looks like i was wrong. Alot of people in the whirlpool thread seem to be buying from other marketplaces and then downloading the game on the australian marketplace. Sounds like a single purchase opens up the option to download from any marketplace!

        • @Innamura:
That's easy enough to deal with though. I'm on crappy ADSL2, so don't plan on buying too many digital copies of games, but looking at some of those prices in this sale, I'd be stupid not to grab a few games.

        • @kapone: I know right, regretting that i bought Divinity Original Sin for $40 during a previous sale. arkham knight at $15! i guess you can price match Big W at EB for a pre-owned copy at AUD10.

      1) Yes. Also make sure to "purchase" Games With Gold each month, and they'll be available to download when you get your console plugged in. :-)

      2) Better off continuing with an existing profile, or creating an Aussie one.
It's not like the 360 (or PSN IDs) - you can buy whatever you want as long as you have a valid "wallet" attached to your account profile for that country.
You can find more info on that here

      • Thanks, I'll check out that Whirlpool thread

    • You can also purchase the games with gold, ie the free ones currently on offer.

The xbox 360 are backwards compatible so if you like them you can purchase and download later

  • These games are for the US Store. Found this guide - http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/console-guides/xbox-one-gui…

Feels like they can't be real deals, since the site refuses to tell me the price - only the percentage reduction from unstated prices.

      • I get an error message, might be work's firewall.

    • because the price varies from region to region.

Someone would need to check each price on the AU store and list them here manually otherwise.

    • Unfortunately, Microsoft has blocked Storeparser so prices can't easily be posted anymore. :-(

  • Surprised at the low discount for Dying Light. Good game but fairly old now. I would have expected the discount to be in the 50-75% range.

    • Very rarely goes on sale and surprisingly hard to find cheap until very recently on disc. We ended up caving and buying it preowned for 30 bucks off Gummie back when the DLC came out. Such a good game but it needs to go on sale a LOT more if it wants to lure in anyone who skipped it in it's first year.

    Batman Arkham Knight:
    US$12
    AU$60

    What a joke :l

      buy from the US

    • +1

      Blame the shipping costs. :/

    • I know that's exactly what I thought. The conversion is a complete farse.

  • For those who have bought from the US marketplace, forgive my ignorance but how does buying from the US work? Can you use Paypal or a 28 degrees credit card? Or does it work like PSN where you have to buy USD store credit off the likes of Amazon, add it to your account then make the purchase?

  • Most of the deals work even without a Gold subscription. It took me a while to get my payment accepted (needed to change my Paypal billing address to the US - still using an AU credit card).
