  • Good deal for a basic cam. I got this for $9 two years ago after a lengthy cashback so to have it outright at this price is great

Why can't Bing Lee come down to Melbourne?

    • Wow what a cheap webcam!

And what?! Melbourne doesn't have Bing Lee?! Never knew that haha

Oh checked StaticIce and it's cheapest $12 elsewhere. So it's a fairly cheap cam anyway. So this is still cheaper. positive!

Also, what can you say about this webcam in terms of quality and everything?

I hear there are some cheap sites going to be coming up for rent shortly too … (Clive Peeters…)

    • dp…sorry!

  • While it has no mic, the unit does produce decent quality picture for a cheap unit.

  • No mic is not handy.

    Mm… Everything's negotiable?

webcam is okay . but these days laptops are all inbuilt shizzz.

im currently using this webcam cause i cbf using a $50+ webcam kk

  • Aww so BingLee doesn't do deliveries?

    • +2

I think the delivery costs would be more than the camera it self :P
      And go CHOCOBOS!!!!

      • lol CHOCOBOS! Still havn't finished that game yet. Its been more than 10 years now. Got my original copy somewhere

        • chocobos are in all final fantasy games, even the latest one.

Got 4 of these going as a el cheapo ghetto surveillance system in my tiny apartment.. works great.. only problem is after about 2-3 weeks the cams drop out one by one.. if i'm lucky I got 1 going. Yes, I'm using a powered hub.. albeit cheapy. Tried variations.. i.e. putting 2 cams in the hub, 2 in the pc ports directly, etc Any ideas?, lol.

    • How long are your usb cables?! I can understand if they are all connected to one PC to cover one room but 4 cameras for it?! Won't a thief just see all the cables leading to the PC and knock it off! ;-)
Test the cameras one by one direct (rather than using the hub). It's more likely to be a software prob receiving the feed from multiple cams at once.

      • the lifecam's usb cable is less than 1m long

      • +1

Yeah, got active extenders that boost the signal and 4 cams so I got one for each room (3) and one for the front door :-) Paranoid I am.. lol. Got FTP upload and email alerts with frame grabs aswell as SMS alerts to safeguard evidence. Not 100% foolproof by any stretch..
I'm convinced it's not the cheap hub since it works flawlessly for weeks on end, but probably a software issue with the cctv software or even windows possible polling or cutting off the hub for some reason (I have turned off the option that 'allows windows to disconnect' hub in root hub settings). Would take a while to figure it out doing one cam at a time.. likely a few months, anyhow thanks!

        • The one cam at a time direct connect suggestion was just to ensure each cam was working ok to rule out a hardware problem with them. What software are you using? Maybe there is there a linux version that could do the job without Windows overheads more reliably (if you have a standalone box).

          • @daydream: Cheers mate.

Yeah I see what you're saying. Using Active webcam but there is a sweet piece of kit called ZoneMinder that runs on linux that I've been meaning to test out for a while.. as good as lot of commercial stuff out there apparently. CCTV or mission critical stuff ought not to be run on anything resembling Windoze me thinks.

    • You may need active USB cables.

  • i think i got this for $11 from MSY, nice price.

Gotta love cheap Chinese labour to make these cheap items.

  • can you at least put in the description somewhere (if not the title) not available in all states (WA)

  • Cheap!!

  • got one from burwood binglee (Sydney), nice price.

  • +2

Thanks mate for posting this. Went to Binglee and they had this marked 39.90! Shocking! I had to show them their webpage listing $9 to get it for that price… Just how dodgy they are… Imagine someone bought it on marked price then finds out suppose to be $9. What a ripoff that would be. Their excuse is they are on stocktake lol and I also ask someone on the phone before the guy said they close like 4pm. I'm like wth it can't be all stores close like 5-5:30 obviously u can see how dodgy they are trying to get ur business rofl

Camera is 1.3 Megapixels, but the framerate isn't the best

    • Yeah don't even get me started - Bing Lee's been dodgy at time with me too.

    • Must be learning from Harvey Norman ;-)
